@@MTwinsAllDay to be fair, neutral is a really complex topic and many explanations could easily overcomplicate things for a newcomer. I'd recommend Izaw Smash's _How To Play_ series.
One other thing I have picked up: If you here someone talk about how this character is "one of my best characters", it means that they are great with every character, not just the one they are talking about.
You didn’t talk about the blue streaks when you get hit. The blue streaks show you the perfect DI. It’s hard to notice if you’re not looking for it. But now it’s all I see when I get hit, and my DI has improved massively to the point if I get zoomed in before I die, I’m able to live more often because I have the perfect DI.
Great video! Here’s a list of more advanced terms I think would be great for a part two. -Zair -2 Frame -Ledge Trap -Wavebounce -pivot cancel -Frame Trap -Drag down -Ledge options(invuln/roll/jump/etc.) -Tech options(roll, neutral) -get up attack -Tether -walljump/wallcling -jump cancel(out of chargeable moves) -gimp -footstool -directional airdodge -shieldstun -spaghetti(lol) -lag(landing and ending) -trip -tomahawk -dash dance
I like to say thank you for making this video. This helped me learn some more about terms I already know like teaching and some I didn’t even know about like RAR. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
I actually knew everything but finally someone has done a pretty short video but with lots of terminology. I really think a part 2 would be perfect for beginners or for people who like to see smash but they don't play it. Continue like this!
So, this video would of been great like 5 months ago. I've learned everything by piecing it together by now but you have know idea how useful it would of been and probably is for new players. Thanks!❤️
I have been playing smash for years but only learned about the specific terms a few years ago. I knew most of these already but I wasn't aware of the Rar (reverse aerial chase) I have seen people do it but I wasn't aware it was an actual term. Great video as always and thank you for teaching me something new!
i genuinely didn’t know what neutral meant until now. thank you. “2-frame” would be a good one to cover. i definitely recommend a part two! you did a good job
You clearly put a lot of work into this; great job! You’ve helped clarify a few things for me, including what people mean by “neutral.“ it’s amazing to me how nuanced this series has become. On the surface, it’s a very basic and accessible games, but there’s a lot of depth and nuance for people who want to become experts. Nintendo have ended up creating a great fighting game series, even if they intended it more as a sort of party game.
I finally learned the specifics of what a neutral is... i knew the term, i knew the general idea... but i thought it was a stock behind or in kill percent... didn't realize it referred to just being above people while trying to land or being near the ledge too. Also learned about the RAR, didn't know how that worked until today. Didn't know it even had a name
Another one is Meteor Smash. Meteor Smash is when a move sends you between 260 and 280 degrees straight down. Spike is outside of that. Meteor smashes you can meteor cancel with jumping or Up-B. :)
@HopCat: thank you *so* much for this really strong foundation for new players and seasoned players alike. If I might add a few I still don’t understand: 1) What is a z-drop? Hear it a lot around item/peach/diddy gameplay 2) What is a zair/z-air? 🤷♂️ 3) How does one simply SDI? I still don’t get it and I get solo’ed by PK Fire every match against Ness. Video with camera on controller if setup allows ❤️ THANK YOU AGAIN!
I appreciate this video, especially how you actually explained teching and DI, because those are things I've never understood. Wish you went a bit more in depth tho, since I still don't know how I should DI When
I knew what all of these terms generally referred to, but I did learn some specifics, like that out-of-shield refers to only a couple of attacks and not anything done after dropping shield.
I knew what Normal and Pummel were I just didn’t know the terminology and I didn’t know what Option Coverage was. I thought I knew all the terms but this video was actually pretty helpful
Turnaround specials would have been good to cover as well as b reversing, and from there you could've lead into wavebouncing, which I am hearing in vods more often than I used to.
Truth be told, I didn't really know what the neutral was exactly until this video, and the same goes for tech. I'd heard the terms quite a bit, but it wasn't until now that I actually understood them. So hey, thanks for teaching me that! ^w^
Thank you! This was very helpful! Also, maybe you could’ve included fast falling. This is because it can combo into other moves if used correctly and can rack up lots of percent. Also, if you are going deep to spike someone and have to fast fall down, you can’t cancel the fast fall, so it makes it harder to recover
4:20 quick side note I’d like to add. You can also short hop by pressing two jump inputs at the same time. If you just want to do that by pressing x and y cool but you can also make one of your triggers a jump and things get real spicy from there

This was a good video! I knew most of what was covered, but I gained a better understanding of the neutral state. Are you considering doing more tutorial-ish videos like this in the future?
One of the missed ones was gimp. The way I would describe it is as cheesy/repetitive ‘edge guard’ that causes the opponent to die (at any percent but usually mid and bellow) due to an inability to recover
There is in fact a difference between a "spike" and a meteor smash, ganondorf's dair is a meteor smash, meanwhile, Mario's fair is a "spike" Meteor smashes send the opponent directly down and a "spike" sends the opponent at a down right or down left direction. There is a difference
