Xpansions founding member Richie Malone looks back at their 1990, top 10 hit “Move Your Body” in light of the release of the Move Your Body (Elevation) Remix EP, out now via Positiva / Food Music: Xpansions.lnk.to/MYBElevationID.
Featuring remixes from:
Shadow Child
Krystal Klear
Rebuke
Nick Reach Up
Loods
Seminal UK rave duo Xpansions have launched a five-track remix package to commemorate their 1991 classic ‘Move Your Body’, out 14th June on Positiva / Food Music.
Ahead of its release, the extensive remix package of the seminal hit has become firm favourites from BBC Radio 1 tastemakers across the board, seeing support from Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Danny Howard, MistaJam and Monki.
Perhaps the most recognisable track from the early years of British rave, ‘Move Your Body’ has been given the remix treatment by five contemporary electronic artists. First up, Shadow Child builds the tension with an extended intro that precedes a deep, grooving bassline. Cold Tonic label head Krystal Klear then steps up with a sun-kissed Balearic take on the original, while fellow Irishman Rebuke brings the iconic “dance when the record spins” vocal sample centre stage on his high-energy rework. Disco edit specialist Nick Reach Up ramps up the feel-good funk on his version, before Australian lo-fi head Loods closes off proceedings with a breaks-heavy take.
The Rebuke remix created the initial buzz for the remix package when first serviced earlier this year, which was taken from Shadow Child’s ‘Curated By’ series - a selection of classic tracks, remastered and reworked on his own Food Music label. Following the impact of the first remix, Food Music have now teamed up with Positiva for the full release of all five anticipated reworks.
“I never thought that 30 years on we’d be talking about remixes, a whole new lease of life and a new audience,” concedes Xpansions’ Richie Malone. “A friend of mine sent me a link to a video filmed back in 1990 from a club in Liverpool called the Quadrant Park and it showed a crowd reaction to the track. Of all the videos I’ve seen, this one blew me away. I still watch it today and it still makes the hairs on my neck stand up.”
Initially released as ‘Elevation (Move Your Body)’, the track reached #7 in the UK Top 40 in February 1991, #13 when reissued in 1995, and the Top 75 again in 2002. It has also featured on approximately 100 compilation albums, with combined sales of nearly 10 million units.
At the hands of five talented electronic artists, one of dance music’s most iconic tracks has been given a new lease of life - without losing any of the magic of the original.

Stakker Humanoid (1988) paved the way for these 90's dance tunes. That was the breakthrough moment where many people were hearing music like this for the very first time.
Music in the 90's was just happier ❤
Early 90's dance music changed people's lives.
i met Richie once, early 90s and also Martin who i see in a studio in essex , both really down to earth real loverly geezers and both very Talented, i loved this tune ever since it was released, was the best and still is one of the greatest dance treks ever such a classic.
That quadrant park footage made me cry
As a kid at 10 years old in '91 I still remember how good this track sounded on LA radio. Still one of my favorites of that era and forever in my head. 💘
The modern remixes are ok but NOTHING seems to beat the original. It's already perfect !
Yes Sir.Agreed.God Bless you.The Bomb.
Agreed
Totally nobody makes great music anymore
You can’t recreate an era. No matter how hard you try.
The rave scene was a genuine working class movement..never to be repeated
Favourite house song
Classic track!!!
I fucking love this tune, remember like it was yesterday. Rise of the foot solider brought me here
Thanks for this upload! I wish there were hundreds of interviews like this, so much of the early scene remains undocumented.
What an absolute gem of a tune, and a gent of a producer! Godspeed Richie!
Takes me back to Club 6400 in Houston.....when the DJ played this song, everyone rushed to the dance floor and you could barely move.
CORKER of a TUNE.....MAD RESPECT....
One of the best tunes ever 🤩👏🏼
Classic of the era, still have the CD. Much respect.
Funny thing is I've been jamming out to this for years and all my friends ask when did this come out? Here we are nearly 30 years later and people can't get enough of this music from the best era of dance.
It's a great track and really sums up the energy of those 2 years. But I always thought the keyboard riff was speeded up version of DTrain 'Your the one for me'???
Awesome... We were rocking this tune in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1991. When this song is played in the Smart Bar, we would go crazy in the dance floor.
Just having a discussion on #Instagram about this track in March 2024.
Such is the power of music.
The Quad video also in the discussion.
This track means so much to so many ❤
Cheers Richard
Excellent, I uploaded that exact Quad video over 10 years ago now. I can't take any credit for it but great to see Richie has watched it :)
No place like our Quad mate . Absolute amazing
Amazing tune still to this day❤ i was there in quadrant park there was no place like it the best club ever 💚🕊🕊happiest days of my life😊😁
Is it to late to say Mike Knowler fingered me?
The Bomb in 1990 and still
In 1991, I moved from a tiny town in Pennsylvania to Los Angeles and started hitting real nightclubs vs little bars. One of my first clubs was on Santa Monica Blvd named Arena. That is when I was introduced to one of my all time favorite songs, Move Your Body. If I had a list of songs that would make up the soundtrack of my life, this is DEFINITELY on it. From that long ago to today, I'm still loving this song and dancing my butt off. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to the guys that brought us this masterpiece. Hats off to you! It isn't often these days that I feel happy (major losses recently) but this song gives me that joy. So thank you!
That quadrant Park looks nuts. Hard to recreate atmospheres like that today
watching this scene still makes the hairs stand up....
It brought a tear to my eye.
First heard it in ‘95 and got the 2002 CDS also. It’s a shame you don’t get them anymore. Dance Anthem 100%
This is a fascinating insight from Richie Malone into this choon. I'm very familiar with the orignal version with Lizzie's vocals. Most of the time, the orignal is the best.
Funny thing is, I just discovered this track, and it's on repeat for some 3 days here. Where have I been in these 30 years? :P
same here haha, where have I been the last 28 years? discovered this track 2 days ago..
This was so ahead of it time
1989-1990 saw some amazing tunes, 2 of my favourite music years
He’s absolutely right the reaction of the Quad 🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺 the best footage of it proper going off after a tune drops
I'm born in 91' and I fucking love this track. Still sounds fresh!
This song is amazing.
What a classic track!
He said that Lizzy D sang the vocal. Does he mean just to hear how it sounded with the vocal because as far as I’m aware Sally Anne Marsh did the vocal on the record. She had previously been in a short lived band called Faith Hope & Charity with Dani Behr.
If it’s not broken don’t fix it, the original is the best no matter who actually sang in the song.
Brillant track.Thank you so much.
Absolute Classic Rave tune and I say Rave because they were popping in 1990 and I was not bar age yet then thats where I first heard this and it is still one of the top Rave/Club Songs one of my favorites. The Vocals were a Grand Slam it all came together.
Faxking classic of the classics. Great memories!
Quality track this BITD . PEACE LOVE AND UNITY
Wow, great piece. Bought this record at the time thanks to Stu Allan hammering it. And as for that Quad footage - electrifying. I was just too young to be going there. I didn't realise it had been made by a southern lad until today. Cheers Richie.
Legends!!!! This is one of my all time favourites!! Love it!! Can't beat the old skool!!
Super super amazing piece of music / song. SO GREAT to hear from a mrmber of the amazing team
Thank you very much for upload
Love it!!!
Absolute timeless classic, remixes were very well done too, Krystal Klear remix was the standout one for me
Big riddim. Raved to this BITD! Wonder what the singer's up to now?
Seems like a really nice bloke
nicest guy you'll ever meet bloody tall though!
@@TallulahBell1305 he's got warrior genes lol
@@OhRaez definitely!
That quadrant park video has always been a favourite of mine
& in 2020 it all went down the covid path , absolutely unbelievable , as unbelievable as " I 1st heard " Elevation " 1990 /91 " I had to go & Buy the Record " just so so so good everything you need in a dance tune , great Beat break very popular if I remember ,but in this Xpansions Choon ,it was well done , sounded Great in a dirty club somewhere & everywhere & the catchy vocal " Move your Body higher " 🎹🎶😁👍❤️
I met Richie once in Billericay, was hanging around with Martin Spreckley at the time
i met Richie early 90s and Martin in Essex, both real down to earth loverly geezers and both very Talented, loved this tune was the best and still is one of the greatest dance treks ever.
The food remixes introduced me to this classic. I heard the Krystal Klear remix on a mix and i was like what the fuck is that, super stood out. Had to have the track.
It was and is a HUGE choon though.
Stil listining to this as a 32year old in Dublin and would love to be around back then. Why not try re-release it
very proud of you richie!!
@@Ploxxy-JG and who is that?
Re-open The Quad
Did this guy actually write the track, or was it a ghost producer working in the studio at the time?
New version has different vocal and it's worse
