@@warriorofgodfitness488 good luck! You do get used to it after a while - although I did night shifts every single night as opposed to just random nights like most of the RUclips videos are expecting - but doing it every night I did settle into a routine. Most people say you should continue to eat dinner at dinner time and breakfast at breakfast time (and that’s what everyone I worked with did) but I’d end up feeling sick if I did that and ended up eating cereal at 9pm and dinner at 8am when I got home

These are great tips! I used to work nights and been on day shift for a month. Im going back to nights so I’m definitely getting some black out curtains. I work from 10pm-5:30 am. I love it! I love working out in the morning rather than afternoon. No one is at the grocery store it’s so peaceful lol.
I feel like as long as you’re eating healthy, working out, getting enough sleep you’ll be okay. Also doing things for yourself like reading, spending time with friends & family, working on projects. Anything that makes you happy 😊 When I first started nights I had terrible habits. I would sleep all day and only wake up to eat. And then I would go back to sleep. Then I would go back to work. I wasn’t doing anything for myself. So I’m preparing myself for my vampire shift as I like to call it 😜

That's what I do most days!! Terrible habits!! I'll even say to everyone "I'm gonna sleep from 9-3 and then I'm gonna get up with my family for dinner, homework with the kids, you know- live life!" And then I struggle to fall asleep. Or I wake up at 3, eat, and I'm falling back asleep! Only to sleep until just enough time to shower and get ready for work.
And I'm a mom and wife with 4 kids still at home. Thankfully my youngest is 11 now, so they don't depend on me as much. But I miss making dinner every night, and all of us eating around the table!
Otherwise, I love the freedom the shift gives me. If parents have the ability, I think more should try it! I'm available all day when they need me. I can sleep around whatever needs to be done.
Trouble is I guess, since my kids are older, they don't actually "need" me as much as they did when they were all little. So now I have a lot of time to myself.. And I'm filling it all with sleep.
I'm not making anything for myself a real priority. If my kid had a game, or my husband wanted me to join him for a doctor's appointment, I'd be there in a heartbeat!
But CHOOSING to make working out or taking a class or coffee with friends... That's not being made a priority.
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate the insight. 😊💜

I've worked for a 7 day newspaper operation for over 30yrs...There is nothing to rectify the situation after that many years...When you're up during the day you always, ALWAYS feel like a vampire on a day pass...No 2 ways about it...Seriously, I've tried all these things and after it boils down to a huge sleep disorder and I still must sleep during the day and am always awake naturally at night, no matter what...

I’ve worked rotating 12 hour shifts the last 7 years. Surprisingly, nights are when I sleep better and can get into the gym, as well as eat better. 6-6 day shifts are so much harder. I have a harder time justifying going to the gym and leaving my dogs alone as well as just being motivated after a super stressful day, I sleep like absolute shit, and I end up so busy most days at work that I just don’t eat. And at my plant we swap from one to the other all month long. I’m just not sure how to tick all the boxes, and it is so frustrating since my training is so dialed in. Shift work is so destructive to everyone involved. Thanks for the tips, there are some I will try and apply!

I’ve been a night shift nurse for ten plus years
    1. Black out curtains but really ones. Hold a light up to them and if it shines through the fabric, they’re no good
    2. Blackout vinyl material that squgees onto the window. Not only does this block out the rest of the light but it will keep the room cooler.
    3. White noise machine and fans
    4. Stay on a night schedule if you’re only off for a couple days.
    5. Supplement with vitamin d
    6. Biphasic sleep. I have issues where I wake up after four hours, so I just move on with my day and pick up another 4 hours later on
    7. A light box for the days where you can’t get sun
    8. Sunbath when you can
It sucks though and sleep is a constant issue

Tips: unless it’s impossible for you to find a day shift job and your main goal in life is winning the rat race (money is your priority goal in life over family/friends/goals), DONT DO IT 😂 night shift nurse for more than 3 years now and it was not worth 10% differential, even if there’s less management on nights. Find a day shift job, have a normal healthy life, and forget the money. You’ll soon find yourself depressed and anxious with things like a super nice car, 83 inch oled tv, and a hella nice place. Meanwhile you neglect your family/mental health/sleep/waste your good years.
