isabella's character is well written with character development and there are logical explanations as to why she was behaving the way she was. But she won villain of the year because she executed her role as a villain in an impeccable manner, remember when she eliminated Krone, fired Ray, broke Emma's leg and shipped out Norman, all in one episode? That's why she was a great villain. But doesn't mean she's necessarily evil and has bad intentions.
I don't think they're knocking how good a villain is. She was a great "villain" but the fact is imo (most would agree) if you've seen vinland saga askeladd was a better "villain" and edged her. Again I'm not knocking isabella, she was great, but Askeladd was better written too

The anime didn't say this while the manga did, but some time before the escape, it was pointed out that Phil was very intelligent for his age, always scoring very high in the tests they took. That definitely added to the whole thing of Phil noticing stuff and doing what he did here, offering to stay behind. And I very much liked how when the kids cut the zip lines, it was like symbolic, like they're cutting their ties Isabella. This was a great reaction to a great show, it was cool to see everyone enjoy it and get into it.
Actually in episode 4(?) emma and norman did mention that phil gets really high test scores. It was when they were trying to determine who the spy was.

Yeah Isabelle wasn't really EVIL, she was just hopeless. She was in love with that boy, when he was taken out she tried to escape the orphanage to go after him, which is when she found out about the farm and was taken back by Grandma. And then when she was offered to become a mother she realized about the farm, and that the boy she loved had died. That's kind of when she just decided that "survival" was the ultimate means, and she decided to go all in on the "You're not truly dead untill you are forgotten". She decided to live longer than anyone, and keep the memories of all of her children untill the day she died, to keep all of them alive through her as long as possible. That's why she collected the mementos of the kids, like Little Bunny for Connie, to remember each kid she send out to die, and remember each kid to keep it alive in her memories. That's why she did everything for survival, because she felt if she failed and let kids escape, she didn't fail the demons or anything, but the children she had to sacrifice to keep them all alive in her mind. She loved all of her kids. It was only when she had just plain lost and there was no hope of winning anymore anyway that she rooted for them because at that point her fate was sealed anyway, so she wanted them to at least succeed and make her sacrifice worth it.

I adore Isabelle. She did love them in a twisted way, and when they escaped, and her fate was sealed as a mother who lost valuable merchandise, she finally allows herself to love them normally for one night.

Love this series so much, it reminds me of Death note, AOT and maze runner combined. Then you got all the plot twists: Norman catching Ray as being traitor and it being true, Sister Krone wanting to join forces & Mama being Ray's real mother. Crazy how Mama wanted the kids to escape all along. And I really love the opening to this series. I haven't skipped it not one time from watching all 12 episodes. I watched it all the way through lol that's how good it is. I cried on episode 10 & on this episode. #Season 2 hype. Please don't spoil, manga readers, thanks.

Honestly I got to say ray is my fav like the things he went through and the things he sacrificed like his life, his sanity, his loyalty to his friends and all the guilt he must of felt when each of those kids got shipped out and the fact that he was willing to kill himself to for his friends is just amazing and overall he’s just a badass character and I love him

askeladd also "lost his villainy" Cuz by the end of the anime basically everything was happening thanks to him and Thorfinn just wanted revenge.

Yeah, for me Askeladd was only the villain when he killed Thors. Literally the rest of the show he was closer to a protagonist than a villain. So there's no way i'd say he was the best villain.
Isabella tho, amazing villain. For me, not the type of villain that you hate with your guts and was truly evil, but the type that you can understand why she did what she did. She wasn't inherently evil but she did what she had to do and even came around in the last episode. Just an amazing character overall

Honest i wish in the end they'd showed the pure horror of outside world for the next season hype it would've created some insane ammount of hype by showing in the end what awaits them outside is hopelessness
I've always said that Isabella's also a victim of the system. And people are saying that her and Emma were in the same shoes, not they the fuck are not. Emma had athletic ability, is a genius, another great brain like Norman and Ray, and the rest (who contributed like 80% to the plan), and William Minerva's guidance. Isabella had herself and nothing else. She also lost Leslie. Same situation, but Isabella had no means unlike Emma did.
And I'm not excusing her actions, but I'm acknowledging her struggles and how she wanted to give the kids the best "life" possible at least before they get harvested.
Isabella _tried,_ but she failed. I think that's what some people are forgetting. Remember all those fanart/fanfic of "imagine if Emma failed and ended up as a Mom?" That's exactly what happened to Isabella.
I remember when Wilkins if I remember right brought up the idea about coming back for the kids left behind but the others thought it was stupid.
This anime gave me the same vibes as Maze runner. I expect Norman to come back as a traitor or somming in the second season as they did with the dead dude in Maze Runner. XD

I feel that it's not simply just because she could see through Phil's act but because she knows Emma would never ambandon them.....even after that scene they show ma running and saying in her mind she will come back for them. But yah this whole anime was amazing!!!
This is quite similar to farm animals like pigs, cows etc. Several animal mothers only survive (but not for long) to give birth and their newly borns get mixed up with others' newly born, so they have no idea if they are truly together with their real offspring.

The Mom was just happy they were able to go through the challenges because she knows if they can’t make it out there, then they have a slimmer chance to survive outside.

Isabella was just a mother who truly loved her sons and daughters, trying her best to give them all the love she could, making them the smartest, the most premium, meaning that they would live the longest. In this world were system are implemented, the mother who initially lost all hope did her best to exploit the system. But finally, she has hope now that one day, her beloved children will return and save the rest.
I loved how it was like I'm gonna act like I don't care if you get eaten but on the inside I secretly want you to grow stronger and escape but i'm gonna also fight you with all my skills as hard as I can so no one realizes or suspects anything but I deeply want you to escape, know what I mean?
She was a villain longer than Askeladd. Askeladd stopped after killing Thors (and that was just due to Floki’s pay) whereas Isabella stopped after accepting she had lost. Also, “but she cared for her kid” ignores that she was going to feed him to demons, that’s what she gave birth to him for. She also grew to enjoy and smile about feeding the demons. What Pat was saying reminded of Bill O’Reilly saying “but some slave owners made sure their slaves were well fed.” (That’s a paraphrase, not an exact quote.)
The difference between Pat, Jerry, Well vs. Rob, is that when Pat, Jerry and Well are wrong they will own up to it and admit it. When a character sucks but gets developed to be better they can actually change their mind about that character. While Rob will fight everything he ever was wrong about and tries to make it right. If he dislike a character, if that said character has the biggest development arc Rob will still hold on to whatever they did 437episodes ago. Because Rob has the biggest ego(IDK why, its an anime)
Phil actually knew and acted surprised when Emma spilled it on him. Phil has the most potential out of all the characters with revealing the Minerva books to the crew and everything he manipulated to get the outcome.

My theory was Isabellas friend who played the music is the same person who left the Morse code in the books. Because ray learned the music somehow and the only way he could have is through the books. Which hints that males can somehow survive, and maybe Norman did also.
Ah I forgot about ray having the memory thing, but still she wasn't pregnant until way later after being trained to be a mom. Did she sing the song in secret when she was pregnant then perhaps? If they use the women for moms, perhaps they use the smart males for breeding the potential moms?

being the best villain isn't just being pure evil. it is when the villain is able to be one step ahead from the protagonist and able to block the protagonist from their success numerous times. The fact that this villain is sympathetic and portrayed in the end to be just a human, made it even better. because honestly villains who do evil just for the sake of being evil is boring, she actually has a reason and a real thrive

I would like to point out that Isabella won Best Antagonist, not best villain. So she was still a great antagonist when she conceded and wished the best for the children.
