Awesome. When I married into my wife's Mexican family, her mother's side had a family reunion in Redland's park. I think that family was half of Redland's population. Anyway, I show up, and only the immediate family knew who I was. There must've been well over a hundred relatives. All were Mexican. A fair amount were cholos. They were staring at the white guy. I was feeling a little uneasy, but then word spread I married into the family. I almost got mugged from all of the hugs. Such cool people...love that family!
And your "mom" is perfect. My mother in law would unload on her kids if they got out of line....some were 50 and they'd go running for cover like they were 5 years old.

One of my brother in laws is from Idaho and no one in my wife’s family told him you have to peel a tamale.😂 Then when my sister in law ate in Idaho she couldn’t tell she was eating bush birds and let’s say he got back at her for not ever communicating.😂😂
My ex did the same thing! He was from Missouri and had only had canned tamales (that’s a thing?!) and when I got him real home made tamales he tried eating it with the husk on! 😂 I couldn’t believe it.
