SS United States The COST To MOVE!!

- The cost to relocate the SS United States and U.S. District ruling ended a years-old rent dispute between the conservancy and its landlord, Penn Warehousing. It stemmed from an August 2021 decision by Penn Warehousing to double the ship’s daily dockage to $1,700, an increase the conservancy refused to accept.
When the conservancy continued to pay its previous rate, set in 2011, Penn Warehousing terminated the lease in March 2022. After much legal wrangling, Brody held a bench trial in January but also encouraged the two sides to reach a settlement instead of leaving it up to her.
She ultimately ruled that the conservancy’s failure to pay the new rate did not amount to a contract breach or entitle Penn Warehousing to damages. However, she found that under Pennsylvania contract law, the berthing agreement is terminable at will with reasonable notice.
The Conservancy has been is in litigation on the matter, since early December (2023)
SS United States is a retired ocean liner built in 1950-51 for the United States Lines. The ship is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the United States and the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction, retaining the Blue Riband for the highest average speed since her maiden voyage in 1952 and still holds title today. She was designed by American Naval Architect William Francis Gibbs.
The SS United States last journey was in 1969. The fast-growing air transportation industry made cross-Atlantic commercials unprofitable. In the early 1990s, the ship was sent to Turkey to have its entire interior walls stripped to its bare bones. Then in 1996, the ship arrived in Philadelphia to be a riverfront Casino / Hotel, but that plan failed.
If you would like to make a donation to help save the ship, go to www.savetheuni... to make a donation.
The SS United States Conservatory bought the ship. The owner of the group is the Great-Granddaughter of William Gibbs, the creator of this ship. They have been actively trying to find an owner to restore the ship. Many people are interested, just nothing has been finalized. Donations are keeping this ship afloat.

Update: The re-location costs, can the SS United States stay a float?
Hopefully they can find a place to move it
Yeah, I hope so too. Because I would be so excited to see her restored and turned into a hotel and museum ship like the Queen Mary.
The thing is the same thing that happened to as America might happen to the as united states
Artificial Reef, a gift that keeps on GIVING!!!
September Deadline is coming! Will See
donate! i did,we must save the BIG U!
Great 👍
😂😂😂😂
@@fraudbuster5232 tf u laughing at?
Me too.
Mark, Elon, Jeff! come on guys, save the ship!!
Thank You! Hopefully
were all rooting for the ss united states. it would be really sad if we lost a piece of us history
Thank You!
That would be a shame, congress should get involve and restore her!🚢
They have petition the White House and Congress Yet no Word
We're too busy sending billions to Ukraine.
@@JaimeExploring Congress doesn't care. I was involved withe the SS United States Foundation in the 90's and we did petitions then too.
@@michaelwasiljov8633 Wow, even back then!
Please ask Leidos to donate to this cause. They recently bought Gibbs and Cox. I would believe there is a will to create a learning environment for new merchant marine enthusiasts to learn about shipboard life and appreciation for the largest open space on planet Earth. There is ample reason to believe this could be brought to fruition. We all know the oceans are the source of all life on this great blue marble we call home.
Thank You for sharing Insights to this
Bring The S.S. United States to New York City and turn it into a hotel and sports complex .
@@Jay-vr9ir That could happen
Jamie, I appreciate your updates.
Welcome! Thank You for checking Update
Hopefully things work out 🙏
September will be here soon! The cost of everything continues!
They should’ve just paid the new raised rent price and non of this would have happened. The fought and the landlord took them to court and won
Now it's going to cost much more
Somebody is over charging here. Put it out to competing bids for towing and dockage at a new berth. Too many hands in the pot.
For Sure!
Its not just moving costs. The EPA wants all the PCBs removed from the engine room. Her lower hull must be scraped of all marine growth. Before she can be towed anywhere.
Oh my Gosh!
They should move it to Florida they have plenty of space for bigger ship, put it in Walt Disney world resort.
Maybe! Walt Disney World 😀
I dont' know. The Queen Elizabeth went to hell in Florida's tropical environment and it was in operating condition when docked there.
@@1940limitedas a person from Florida our hurricanes would probably rip apart her rusty deck
The US has hundreds of billions to send other countries, for stupid things, but we don’t have money to rescue American heritage 😢.
hoping something changes soon!
"Incapable", not "uncapable " of moving under it's own power.
Hopefully it can still move!
It's a shame they can't restore here and bring her to California I bet it would be popular here. I hope they could bring her to the west coast.
Others have suggested the same idea, Thank You for sharing
@@JaimeExploring all we can do is hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed. I hope they don't scrap her. She's such a beautiful ship with potential.
Oh!!! IT WOULD LOOK SO GOOD NEXT TO THE QM IT WOULD BE ICONIC!
@@letssayit728 definitely agree. It's a shame Cunard cannot buy her convert her into a museum or restore her to be able to do short cruises.
@@Samuraistar92 Cunard has expressed interest in purchasing it before, but unfortunately the repair costs far outweigh the benefits...
Turn it into a floating hotel and museum just like the queen mary it has to be saved
Good Idea! Thank You 👍
@@JaimeExploring YOUR WELCOME i HOPE THEY WILL SAVE IT
not to be mean, but they have not been preserving the ship at all. idk what they are gonna do with it, but whatever they do, idc if they scrap, sink, actually save her, idk. only the future can tell
After all these Years
Shame the pier owner can’t just look the other way just say it’s history leave it alone and try to support it all about money always been there how long and now they wanna throw a fit about it
Will see what happens come September
National Harbor Maryland
@@Benjixxlife The possible new location?
@@JaimeExploring correct
@@JaimeExploring they need to check that location, lots of opportunities there for that ship especially with a newer casino on the national harbor
Junk it already.
September Deadline is coming
@@JaimeExploring Some of us are approaching dire straits as we attempt to preserve our own existence, and really have lost interest in preserving some rusted-out old hulk that previous generations chose to condemn to this fate. It's emblematic of this country as a whole; both have seen their "best" days long ago.
I hope she is saved but i cant see it
It's looking grim
I'm surprised the EPA hasn't stepped in with all that old ass lead paint falling in the water
Especially after all these years
Time to accept reality, tow to India for cutting. Whatever the game is with this dinosaur, I'm glad my taxes aren't wasted on it.
