      @@levnzt6949 Most of the "interruption" I'm picking up in here is either chiming in with little "I am listening" noises (it's a communication style, how polite it is varies wildly based on culture) or "I have a fact I can contribute here." The 1st one is... whatever. Some communication styles will actually drag to a halt if those little "I am listening" noises aren't there. I see how the second one could be annoying, and it's definitely something I've had to sort of unlearn in my private life (as I have been told by mutual friends I have a tendency to talk over people, and it bothers some of the quieter people in my social circles who did not grow up in a house where interrupting is the only way to get a word in edge wise), but he never takes OVER the conversation, it's always on topic, and it's a conversation rather than a lecture. SciShow in general has a more conversational style than other educational RUclips channels. If that's not for you, that's fair, but I feel like you're mischaracterizing him a little here.

    I love scishow, always have and probably always will, but the sheer excitement and unabashed joy I felt watching this video of two nerds nerding out and exchanging cool facts was very reminiscent of how I felt as a young teenager who had just begun understanding english getting all excited and binging through early scishow almost 15 years ago.

    Some additional stuff idk:
    Most greenland sharks are blind, but not for the reason you think - theres actually a type of parasitic copepod that is attached to most greenland sharks eyes, blinding them. Not too much of an issue since they live in relatively deep waters.
    Theres also a video floating around that might show whale sharks making noise but its very sus and theres a lot of discussion around its legitimacy
    The smallest shark is actually a lantern shark, the dwarf lantern shark with a max length of 20 cm (thanks octonauts for teaching me this when i was like 5)
    Fish noises can get very loud - one of the loudest is the Danionella Cererbrum which is only 12mm long, but makes noises up to 140 decibels*, which is roughly as loud as a gunshot or firework. The Plainfin Midshipman of San Fransisco can be heard from land quite regularly too

      be careful comparing dB underwater with dB in air. They have a different pressure reference point (20 times lower in water). And even more important: water is almost incompressible -> a sound with the same pressure amplitude has much much less energy than in air.
      140dB in water are as loud as 43dB in air - that's not very loud at all.

    • @StonedtotheBones13
      @StonedtotheBones13 2 месяца назад +6

      Further theory on that first one: it's theorized that the copepod acts as a lure, but I'm not sure if we have actual evidence of this. (This makes it slightly better for me in that at least the poor shark gets a maybe benefit?)

    Funny thing is, you can’t really base if something’s a fish with the “breathes through gills, not by lungs” way. There are fish that have lungs, namely fish like gouramis and bettas, which are labyrinth fish. They have an organ called a labyrinth that essentially functions like a lung so they can breathe air. They have this cause they natively live in murky, muddy waters, such as puddles, which don’t have much oxygen dissolved in the water. They can survive out of water so long as they keep moist.

    This channel and Ze Frank are the two best nature channels on the internet. Scishow in not just nature topics but when they do a video about nature it is top notch.

    I slightly wanted to know what a fish is really. But this video absolutely sucked me in! She is such a great presenter, with the mutual nerding out and also not being afraid to admit to not knowing things but wanting to find out. *Chef’s kiss*

    “I didn’t know there was a drumfish.” Intellectually honest people say “huh, I don’t know, let’s find out.” Love her. ❤
