Do you need to convert to vertical, square, or horizontal video? I'll show you how! Many social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook accept vertical and square videos. This is extremely effective if you're editing IGTV footage, IG Story Footage, Facebook Square Videos, and many more! But what if your footage is a different aspect ratio? No problem! You can convert your video to any size using some simple techniques in Adobe Premiere Pro.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this video. My Team at work shot a video vertically, and we had some screen shots for a new tool we are releasing that made it really difficult to include in the video. Thanks to your tutorial, I was able to take that vertical video and turn it into a horizontal version. We could now add in the additional screen shots since we have more room on the page! You saved the day, thank you so much!!!
This is great, I'm so glad this tutorial helped you. Thanks for the comment.

You definitely made this easy to do. Great explanation
Glad it was helpful!
What if you want all the different formats combined in a single video? What sequence settings would be best to use for the final footage? Thanks

thank you so much! i always wondered how people converted vertical video to that widescreen blurry effect horizontal video. makes a vertical video easier to watch on a widescreen instead of seeing those black bars!

You're welcome!
Bro i like your staff
Is there a name for the annoying blurred background video that is added when landscaping from portrait? Its done automatically by some programs and I dont like it and want to find the setting for it so there must be a name for it. Firefox seems to have added this feature in a new update and i want to shut it off. Anyone know the name of that backround effect?
I don't know if there is a name for it.
Hi there
Great Video, thank you!
Is there a Way to automate the process? So if I change the vertical Video, that the effect remains with the new clip? I want to do this effect for many Videos in my timeline.. Thank you!
Hi @Roger, You can't fully automate the process but to speed it up: Edit > Copy the first clip you did, then select another clip and choose Edit > Paste Attributes and you'll be able to copy all the scaling, positioning, effects etc.
@@WebGuru yes this will speed it up for sure. Thank you for your answer, I appriciate it!
Thanks Bro 😍
Welcome
Thank you so much from Bangladesh.
Afzal, you are welcome.
Does anyone know how to show text on double layered clips please? Since I've done this the text on my clips are not showing up anymore. Thanks.
Look in the Timeline and make sure the text clips (usually pink) are on TOP of all the video clips.
Your doing god's work!!
Thank you- I appreciate the comment!
More videos please, very helpful newbie here
More to come!
Please can you make a video on how to split screen like double role video thanks
Good idea! I'll keep that in mind for future videos.
hey tried the same thing but when i converted portrait to landscape it just smallend the video and added black boxes in all direction up down side and side
You may have to change Scale of video (In Effect Controls panel) and fill in black boxes with something if you want. My video shows how.
understandable have a nice day
Aditya, thank you so much.
Awesome informative video
Glad you liked it
thanks
You're welcome!
New to channel. Watching from Egypt 🇪🇬
Welcome!
Do you have the tutorial video for Final Cut Pro X?
No, I don't use FCPX. But I"m sure someone else has done it.
I tried the way you said but my options are not visible there..I can't change the frame size
That is strange. Try unlocking them.
Superb 👌👍
Thanks 🤗
Hi, i did this and it looks great when doing a blurred background layer behind an iphone screen record footage. But when i try to play it as a video on premier pro, the background video keeps cutting and crackling like the olden films - what am i doing wrong?!
Your computer might be too slow to keep up with the footage. Export it and then watch the exported file.
@@WebGuru yeah it’s the same when exported too. The footage is not 4k or anything major but even when i exported it, it was still the same?
This is for those uploading their own vids to youtube. I have vertical vids (some) and I cannot find an access to switch it to horizontal.
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment.
Adobe Premiere Pro puts a wide black border around my exported videos! No matter, what format I choose. HELP!!!!!!!
Hi
My videos work horizontally or vertically cuz I shoot them from above
But when I edit and add extra photos and text, it seems hard to convert every thing from vertical (for IG) to horizontal (for RUclips) is there an easier way to do that?
It is easy to rotate the video, but currently I have to rotate every text..
Thx
Nest everything, and then rotate the nest. It may work!
@@WebGuru I guess it won't come out as I want it .
Say there is a small box of a reference video within our main video, that little box will rotate wrongly
I hope I delivered the idea correctly
@Mizzi Then the last thing to try is to Export the entire video. Import it. Then rotate it. Good luck!
uhm, this does not work for me? when I change the size in the sequence settings nothing happens...
Try again. Make sure you are changing the right sequence.
SUPER SUPER HELPFUL!! why don't the Adobe Premier Pro tutorials just TELL you that (I've just been reviewing them), or at least include this? This is such an important little topic, thanks to everyone recording in vertical on their cell phones for social media, etc.!! But not for other, more professional purposes!!! Thank you SO SO much- excellent demo and explanation!!!
Thanks for the comment @Rebecca! Glad you found the video useful. Vertical video is becoming so popular, so I wanted to show people how to handle it.
Sir software name please ❤❤❤
How to enlarge vertical to straight landscape or horizontal?
Not helpful using blur.
Increase the SCALE until the video fills the screen. However, the top and bottom will get cropped.
Why I cant press the sequence setting button ?
You can also try this: Click inside the Timeline, go to the top menu bar and choose Sequence > Sequence Settings and that might work for you.
But can I film the video with my phone in such a way that it's already horizontal?
Yes, rotate your phone so that it's horizontal. Then the video should become horizontal.
How do you find the sequence
Go to your Project Panel. All your sequences are there.
Very helpful video, however I think the question most people would come here is: how to COMBINE both, either videos or photos into the same video or sequence settings?. The way to get there is typing the key word: Combine.. You're welcome :)
Great suggestion!
Can I convert without making the original video become square?
Yes @tan you can!
But on which app you're doing this?
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro

I TAPED A CHRISTMAS VIDEO WITH MY CAMERA HORIZONTAL, BUT IT ALL CAME OUT VERITCAL WHEN I UPLOADED IT TO RUclips ! WHY? CAN I CONVERT IT ?
CAN YOU SEND ME THE LINK?
@@WebGuru ruclips.net/video/rEbqJOJ-2u0/видео.html
Am I just very confused or does this not work anymore in 2022?
@Blooable should still work!
Is it possible on the phone?
Normally you can rotate your phone to switch from vertical/horizontal video.
@@WebGuru yeah but like not on full screen. I can just watch videos vertical on full screen and some specific ones on RUclips that were probably recorded from their phone horizontal
can't we just increase dimension to make portrait into landscape
No why import & export, need to just hit a button and rotate to landscape on iPad Air 2
That is not possible.
@@WebGuru oh that was supposed to be "wish there was a button"
You didn’t mention the app you are using
You're welcome, thank you for your kind words.
@@WebGuru please name the app dear Web Guru
Why can't I just make a portrait video widescreen without the blurred effect on both ends? There's too many tutorial videos that show the exact same thing!
@Ludwig. This is possible by SCALING your video up to around 200%. However the top and bottom of the video will get CROPPED. This might cut off a person's head or body. That is why people use these other techniques.
Is it a paid one
@VGupta Is what a paid one? What is sw?
why is this video 6 minutes!?
How long would you like it to be?
What app are you using, without that we have no idea what app you are using. Not helpful.
If you read the full title of the video it says "in Adobe Premiere Pro" which is the name of the app that I am using.
