- www.urbancitytv... -. Ricky Donnell Ross, a k a "Freeway Rick," was a drug kingpin in the 1980s in South Central Los Angeles, supplying cocaine to other parts of the country. In the course of his rise, prosecutors estimated Ross exported several tons of cocaine nationally and made more than $600 million in the process.
Ross dropped out of Dorsey High School in Los Angeles his senior year. He played for the tennis team, but, because he was illiterate, was unable to get a scholarship to attend college.
In 1996, Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of selling 100 kilograms of cocaine to a federal agent. The same year, a series of articles published by the San Jose Mercury News and written by Gary Webb exposed the connection between Ross's main cocaine source and the CIA as part of the Nicaraguan Contras scandal that funded the rebels.
Because of a legal technicality, the U.S. federal court of appeals reduced Ross's life sentence to 20 years and he was released from prison in 2010.
Ross, who has since reformed, lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children, speaking to high school students and community groups of staying away from drugs. Ross has two books out, he is an actor, entrepreneur and travels the county speaking to Colleges and Law enforcement.

The reason the real freeway Rick Ross lost his court case, was simply due to the fact his name is common and not based in a television or movie character, Biggie used the name Biggie Smalls and received a cease and desist order because that was a character's name from the movie Cotton comes to Harlem, Uncle Luke from 2livecrew once known as "Luke Skywalker" received the same order from the courts, the star wars franchise would not allow the use of one it's most popular characters names.
The trouble apparently started after Ricky saw a magazine article about “up-and-coming” rappers, which included Roberts, using the name Rick Ross. Outraged, he filed the suit against Roberts a year after he left prison in 2010.
However, the time technicality was an issue when the suit went to trial the first time round - the judge noted that the plaintiff had known about the rapper since at least 2006 but had failed to make his claim until 2010.
A stand up dude would have looked out for a person that you admired so much that you took their name. A real gangsta would have reached out to him while he was locked up maybe even before using his name.

Only thing you gotta do is to claim your name as it is on the birth certificate (that way you own it) and do an affidavit of ownership for benefit of ownership, then file it at the birth county and wherever you domicile/live. And copy right your name and make it a public record, then go back and due him/them for extreme royalties with compounded interest especially in Federal court. Authenticate your birth certificate with the county where you were born, then with the department of state in Sterling, Virginia

Even now there we're rappers who got killed by being in the street and doing football numbers for selling drugs. But Freeway Rick Ross was the real deal and I believe Rick Ross should have respected him for that. This Era of hip-hop isn't the same as the old school hip-hop.. :-)
