@@shimmojr the only way you can return them is if you immediately kill them and slice their belly to empty of any eggs and make sure they sink. Better just to drop the boot on them and be done with it though
I had a pet Redfin about 15 years ago when i first got him he was so scared that he would ko himself on the glass of the tank eventually he calmed down and wouldnt reacted to movement in the room. He would be a dark olive green colour all over but if i ran a hookless lure through the tank or put livies in in the blink of a eye all his fins would stand on end go full on red and black tiger stipes dark as would appear literally instantly. He really was amazing very smart and a friend. He eventually got used to me hand feeding him and would stick his whole hed out of the water and feed from my fingers. All my friends said that Red knew me apart fro others because he would always go to whatever end of the tank i was at and sit there watching me regardless of who was in the room he followed me always. Rest In Peace Red. Thanks for so many great memories mate. 🙏
Good to see so many people that put redfin back and appreciate these fish for the fantastic sport they provide. The rest of the angling world thinks they are far to valuable to catch only once and certainly wouldn't kill them for the sake of it!
You can get decent sized ones from the bank. Gotta fish the right areas and time of day though. I caught my PB reddie from the bank there on mepps spinner. Stretched the tape to 48cm
@@Jay-di3fm For the reddies early morning and late afternoon untill just after dark. For the rainbows any time of day but they are the most active in the evenings. For the big browns go at night
Sam.the.fisherman Yeah mate and if you want something a bit more versatile definitely check out TT jig spinners that you can attach on to your plastics
As someone who enjoys fishing, there is nothing worse than living in Ballarat and not having a boat or kayak to get into the deeper water where the big fish are... Also, I can't... I just can't kill a fish because it is considered invasive. I know, I know... it harms native wildlife, but I can't just kill something because it happened to be born what it was. I release them all - unless it's a whopper. I have yet to eat one... I like white meat fish like halibut, sea bass and cod... wonder if I'll like reddies.
Even if we did kill every Redfin and carp we catch it wouldn’t really make a difference, I only kill carp though, never kill perch unless I eat them, they have already established their territory here, it’s sad but it’s true
Redfin are fantastic! I dread the day they would be gone
u and me both
it is NOT illegal to put redfin back in Victoria in the water you caught them in! fisheries Victoria just recommends you don't throw them back!
is it illegal to return carp?

It’s not illegal to put redfin back in Victoria
Anglers are encouraged not to return redfin to the vic water
Need to come back to Ballarat when things open up again
Jimmy is either in Ballarat to play centre half forward or Paul is alot shorter than I imagined.
Its not a requirement in Vic not to put Redfin back.
It's a nice place for Fishing and some good catches mate 👍.
Blue Grenadier & Hopuka are real hard to toss ! Reddies are the best fresh water fish in Oz.
I must agree Graeme, Reddies are bloody delicious!

In NSW (atleast where I live) it's a $5000 dollar fine for putting one back in the water and a $15,000 dollar fine for introducing them somewhere else
i live in ballarat and been there a few times fished from bank and only got small ones

You can put them back they just don’t want you to
Every state of Australia.. where are they in QLD…. Get ya facts straight regarding releasing them and states they can be found..
for redfin use a lighter rod with a slow taper i promise you wont lose any perch anymore! also dont use spinnerbaits its a sh*t lure for redfins
Pete Heigel Fishing what do you use then
