Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, George Duke and Quincy Jones is my Mt. Rushmore of the keys.
Warm Greetings from East Africa🙂Have never heard of Joe Sample, but if you mention him in the same breath as Ramsey Lewis, George Duke and Quincy Jones, he's good. Reminds me of how I had never heard of Robert Johnson as at the year 2012. There's this 1997 Eddie Murphy movie called "Metro," that I first watched when it was released, and then watched it again in 2012. I don't remember Robert Johnson being mentioned in "Metro" the first time I watched it, but the second time I watched it in 2012, I remember a tribute being made to Robert Johnson, his music and his legacy.
Not long after, I heard B.B. King (RIP) pay a tribute to Robert Johnson and his legacy, and I thought to myself, " Two tributes in a row... I need to check out who this guy was."
And that I did by watching a documentary on Robert Johnson, and found out for myself that Robert Johnson was like the "Michael Jordan of Blues Music," was like the "Bill Gates of Blues Music."
Moral of the story: I need to check out Joe Sample too🙂
Another thing I remember from "Metro" the second time I watched it in 2012, is the mention of a saying from Naples, in Italy, that goes, "When you think you're f**king them, there're f**king you," in other words, when you think you're taking people for a ride, it's actually them taking you for a ride🙂
Regards, Michael M. Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 20th March 2024.
Joe Sample is seriously underrated. That’s a pretty strong list - can’t leave out Ahmad Jamal, Herbie or Chick though?!
Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis Jr. (May 27, 1935 - September 12, 2022) RIP Maestro RAMSEY - THANK YOU FOR THE RICH LEGACY OF MUSIC OVER YOUR LIFESPAN.

AMAZING THANK YOU RAMSEY LEWIS
Rest in Paradise...Gifted Maestro!
Thank you, RAMSEY LEWIS, for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift and talent. Your music was part background soundtrack to our once young life and continuing. It was a pleasure meeting you and giving incite on working with Charles Stepney and Maurice White. Quite the learning experience for myself. May GOD bless your legacy and surviving family.
One of the few most amazing concerts I've heard live was in the 1990s with this Ramsey Lewis Quintet performing at a church in uptown Chicago, across from the old fire station. Every moment was a riveting experience. He even played a better Brazilica. When the band played its last number everyone in the audience stood up and clapped synchronously without hesitation.
MUSIC IS BEAUTY, N AHAYAH DON'T LET THE EVIL TAKE IT OUT OF SYNC.
Every once in a great while, it all comes together perfectly and this was one of those times.
AMEN!
Halley's comet quasar brand
i used to play this all the time on wax in the 80s .... love it R I P Ramsey
One of the best piano solos Ive heard in my life...
Myche Worth I agree. The way artful way Mr Lewis develops his ideas - a lesson in improv and composition - just another level of mastery.
Happy 84th Birthday, Ramsey Lewis! We love you!
🧡🧡🧡 RIP Ramsey. Merci
Ohh.how I do remember from..1973 till now March 2020 I almost forgot.....Love this song..thanks utub..♨️💥💞🌟
Rip my man Lewis. Best musician I know
I'm not sure this audience realised just how amazing this performance was.
This concert took place in summer 2014 at the " Jazz Festival " in the city of Vienne in central France. More than 20.000 people came to this live concert because Ramsey Lewis was very famous jazz musician in Europe since the decade of sixties. You can believe me because people came from every where. I mean from Italy, Austria, Germany, etc... I was there and let me tell you that it was a famous concert.
Cosa ti fa pensare che 20.000 persone siano andate al concerto per poi non apprezzarlo?
Great!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this should be made over with Jill Scott because she has truly mastered her artistic skills and so has Ramsey. I think it would be a seller if they worked together. I think 😅. Hopefully they do something together one day.
Phillip Bailey and Phil Perry voices are best suied to this. But loving it all the same.
