Some of these comments seem to ignore the major lesson of Pearl Harbor. The way to avoid an escalating conflict is to prepare for it. China sees any country within their geographical sphere as being theirs.
Australia knows they cannot deter China from starting a new war all by themselves. They need US help.
In 1941-42 Britain was not able to help Australia defend itself. The Americans did that.
This is about avoiding another Pearl Harbor type of attack by China and repeating its history.

History tells you if Australia is key role in Asian conflict/deterrent your in trouble. Case in history is when MacArthur had to move his command to Australia during WW2. So WSJ you’re talking nonsense. Whats key to America is, which it’s failing, is a strong full strength Navy. Our biggest forward power and projection of power is the aircraft carrier and their aircrafts. But every carrier has been deployed short of fully manned carrier wing. They’re being doing westpac and med cruise short of at least couple squadrons.
The number game for size of navy is predictable, due to the industrial needs to build ships and America will be falling short not only in naval aviation but the ships it self. Australia historical never had a role or rather last forward line for America. Truthfully WSJ your in “them” state a mine. True adversary is itself.

Well China does have a spy base in Cuba. But having one base is not enough. They need a network of bases that can support each other. So if that Cuban base came under attack, where can Chinese reinforcements quickly come from? The Caribbean Sea, part of the Atlantic, is the worst location for a Chinese military base because on both sides of the Atlantic are NATO countries. Chinese troops would have to go through all the U.S. forces in the Pacific and then the Atlantic to support Cuba.

China's stealth bomber can fly to Australia and back without refilling; But flying To US Mainland would require refilling midway. Or a much easier way, it is only 10 minutes for DF41 to hit any city in Australia and 20 minutes to hit US Cities.

Also Attacking countries main land vs attacking ships at sea is very different. It opens up reciprocal attacks to main land china as well. They hit the US or Australia main land and they hit the 3 gorges dam in return? over all bad ideas. Its better to just leave Taiwan to be an independent country it already is.

I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of
information can be a big hurdle. I've been
making more than $100k passively by just
investing through an advisor, and I don't have
to do much work. Inflation or no inflation, my
finances remain secure. So I really don't blame
      people who panic.

My portfolio is rounding up to almost a million, and I have realized that when a stock makes it to the news. Chances are you're quite late to the party, the idea is to get in early on blue chips before it becomes public. There are lots of life changing opportunities in the market, and maximize it

The People's Republic of China has EVERY RIGHT to take back Taiwan, by force, if necessary.
Let's compare Taiwan to a hypothetical scenario situated in the US:
Imagine the US civil war in the 19th century. The confederates lost in the end but retreated back to lets say Hawaii. So not on the mainland of the US border. They continue to act like the confederates, enslaving and genodicing the natives there. Then, that state in its form exists for multiple decades after that and STILL TO THIS DAY on Hawaii.
What do you think about this situation?
Well, the situation of China is VERY similiar to the hypothetical scenario stated above...
China had a civil war in the 40s which the communists won, the government of Chiang Kai-shek fled with his army to Taiwan, continued to govern there, enslaved the native population, terrorized its people (look up the "White Terror in Taiwan" if you are interested in this topic). Taiwan was - for multiple decades after its founding - a dictatorship and even a US backed dictatorship for that matter.

I just don’t understand. There is an actual war going on in Europe, and the US doesn’t want to get involved. But there isn’t a war in the Pacific, and the US is building up forces as though there is one.
There should be a massive buildup of US forces in Europe that would dwarf the Pacific. But instead, it is the other way around.
Can someone please explain the dichotomy.
