It's always disheartening to hear someone outright dismiss heavier vocals such as with the middle section. The amount of talent, and control to do the things that Daniel (the singer here) can do takes such time, and dedication to their craft. Instead of seeing it as unnecessary, look at it as a different way of conveying emotion lyrically that otherwise wouldn't hit the way they're intended. Think of it as something like Salvador Dali mixing different styles and techniques in his artwork to express different patterns unique to telling the whole story.

She says that at the end, she says that she liked that he didn't scream just to scream but to show the different techniques and how he switches between the growls and the high notes

It just tells about what she's familiar with. And it's ok, everyone starts somewhere. It's her reaction we're watching here after all.

@@trashcandy. Ironically, people rarely sing in real life to express most of their emotions genuinely, but people scream all the time, and no-one tells actors they're 'screaming just to scream' every single time they do. Singers can't win, even if they scream 'at pitch' or during a gear shift of emotions in a song, or they clearly have control of their instrument, such as here. It's odd that music is the one art form by which most people seem averse to having their senses challenged, even if it makes sense for the song. It's comparable to ancient throat singing, which also has its place. Like with that, I blame lack of exposure, but I guess it's considered an 'extreme' technique for a reason.

Daniel is probably one of the most versatile vocalists out right now. Screaming is a squires taste of course. But when done in certain sections to give more impact to a certain section.

do more tesseract. yes, there are screams but not a ton, just sparingly, and they're usually done within pitch. this is a very precise band, so dan's aware of what type's of screams are required as a way to balance the cleans.
also, oddly enough, their 2nd album, 'atlered state', is mine and many other's favorite album and it's with a different singer. i think you might appreciate that singer ashe o'hara, as he isn't known for screaming, but nice breathy cleans. he also sings in a band called 'voices from the fuselage' which is also really good.

Hey! Tess fan here, glad you checked them out! Just to answer your question on harsh vocals at the end, the first section ("I bind you") is more of a growl type (low pitched, sounding more like a big cat roar), and the second section ("thrown into the grey/in the ruins I remain") is a screamy screamy part (high pitched fry distortion).

Strange reaction, he showed his complete range of vocals and emotions during this song. The way he switches from a growl into a high pitched vocal is outstanding.

I really like the Progressive Metal genre, but I prefer the more "classic" one.
In recent years several new bands have emerged that have mixed Progressive Metal/Djent/Post-Metal: some I like, others less...
TesseracT are not bad at all but, for example, I prefer the Australians Voyager who, in addition to Prog Metal, also mix Djent/Synthpop/Trance Metal elements and have cleaner voices.

Awesome, 1st) the name, giving a tangible view of time . Secondly) spending a lifetime researching, unable to speak about the experience that one is subject to, the pitch has to be unsettling to relay ones experience of an objective observer...to the moon and beyond😢
