Durmitor National Park - The largest park in Montenegro
Durmitor is a massif located in northwestern Montenegro.It is part of the Dinaric Alps.
Its highest peak, Bobotov Kuk, reaches a height of 2,523 meters. The massif is limited by the Tara River Canyon on the north, the Piva River Canyon on the west, and by the Komarnica River Canyon on the south . As the largest national park in Montenegro, this UNESCO World Heritage site covers an area of 79,000 acres.
The Durmitor is a mountain area, locally called a massif, featuring 48 separate peaks; Bobotov Kuk is the highest reaching a summit of 8,278 feet (2,523 m).
The Durmitor massif and neighboring plateau are home to 18 different glacial lakes.
The massif is comprised of limestone and surrounded by European Black Pine with other rare and endemic plant species as well. There are three canyons that surround the Durmitor massif which include Draga Canyon, Susica Canyon, and Tara River Canyon.
The Tara River Canyon is 4,265 feet (1,300 m) deep and stretches 49.7 miles (80 km) long making it the deepest gorge in Europe and possibly the second largest after the Grand Canyon. Wildlife in the national park includes brown bear, grey wolf, and the European wild cat. The golden eagle and peregrine falcon are two of the coveted bird sightings. It's not possible to reach Durmitor with public transportation, so you have two options: rent a car or join an organised tour.
Durmitor is located 2-5 hours drive by car from Kotor. There are plenty of tourist activities that can be enjoyed within the park such as skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
During the summer, hiking, water sports, and mountaineering. The 18 glacial lakes are one of the most popular destinations for sight-seeing tourists that visit the park.

Of course it’s possible to get there by public transportation. Take a bus to Zabljak and from the bus station it’s 30 minutes of a nice walk. You can even take a bus from the same bus station to Tara bridge (2-3€, half an hour ride, buy a ticket from the driver m, only cash)
