- Akira Kurosawa is responsible for many of the greatest films ever made, and has left a major impact on cinema as a whole. In this video, I'll discuss his acclaimed Samurai Duology: Yojimbo & Sanjuro, and why it's my favorite double-feature of all time.

My 3 favorite movies of Kurosawa are Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, and Ikiru. Kurosawa is definitely one of my favorite directors out there as well.
Just watched Ikiru for the first time the other day. Been on my too watch list for nearly 20 years. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I'll be thinking about it for a long long time.
My two favourite movies of all time. Yojimbo at no.2 and Sanjuro at no.1
I always watch them back to back and I encourage everyone to watch Kurosawa's filmography.
Toho Studios from this era in general, very few not good movies.
Hey me too! Both of these films are my 2 all time favorite movies. They are both tied at number 1, because I honestly can't pick one over the other.
Thank you so much for making this video. Yojimbo, as of a few days ago was my first Samurai film, and it was awesome. I am so going to binge like all of Akira Kurosawa's films.
Please make more videos about this legend of a director.
Also, Mifune is legendary. Nothing new there.
I’ve made my Kurosawa list! I just finished Yojimbo and Sanjuro. I’ve seen 7 samurai about ten times. Still going!
Can’t wait to see which movies you cover next.
I personally think Yojimbo is a better movie just because of its subtexts and Kurosawa's criticism of the new bourgeuosis of Japan.
Sanjuro, overall is more about Sanjuro himself, and how feudal instutiotions are bringing out the worst in people.
Yojimbo is one of my favourite films. I guess I will have to check out Sanjuro as well.
Kill Bill: "Now, go back to your mother!" "And stop fucking around with yakuzas!" Whacks him on the backside ... also, when Clint Eastwood letting the guy go after killing the thugs for refusing to apologise to his mule! Yojimbo!
Don't forget we got Zatoichi Meets Yojimbō
Great video essay. Where did you get the alternate poster art for both films?
Found them on google. Most of them are on the IMDB page
Thanks man!@@ReturningSunn
No, not a hot take to say Sanjurō is > to Yojimbō. Friend of mine was moving left his Laserdisc Player to me along with a stack of Laserdiscs. 1 was Criterion Collection Akira Kurosawa's Sanjurō, which had Mifune on the cover with Nakadai's blade at his face while holding Camila/Tsubaki. I popped it in having never seen any classic Samurai film and that was one of the best 90min i spent on a self movie building to the iconic showdown of Mifune & Nakadai high pressurized blood spray killing draw. Theres that scene where he kills near 17 people in 30 seconds no more, blew me away. Since then, I've assembled a great BD library of classic Samurai Cinema, please release Goyokin & Samurai Rebellion on BD now.
Godfather is a duology trust me im right
I agree 👍
Oppressors... just remember what Kurosawa pointed out through Kukichiyo (Mifune) in Seven Samurai when he screams at the Samurai that the farmers (oppressed) are every bit as awful as the Samurai, they lie, steal, kill defeated Samurai to harvest resources. However, its due to the Samurai they do this.
I do not see the world as Oppressor VS Oppressed. Humans are strange critters and they almost always destroy themselves if not others. No more is this more evident than in old Japan. But it does seem to be civilized human nature.
RICHARD.
Hello
Please do a review on part 2 of bleach TYBW
Venom was fine. Get over yourself.
I hate those movies. You can disagree if you want. I still hate them.
@@ReturningSunnNot a fan of the Venom movies, but still better than Top Gun.
