Your video is a perfect example in why to test an area! I learned a bit from your vid! I'm in Virginia and l am looking forward to testing some creeks this summer.
I’d definitely say don’t rush into it. Get some pans and maybe a sluice box and learn to pan efficiently. It all comes back to panning in the end. A dredge is nice but learning to locate gold is a must or you will get frustrated fast! I went full bore and felt defeated when I ran a bunch of worthless dirt for hours. If you can locate something good and repeat that result then I’d look to get something that will move more material. Just my two cents
Now you just need a crazy dog running around and you are all set

At what point should newbies think about getting some sort of dredge whether gas or water powered?
