Hey guys, let me know if you have run into this annotation display problem and what you've done to correct it. I have some solutions, but wanted to see if there are additional solutions I haven't thought of. The ball valve family from revit uses model lines for it's annotation, which is actually a really good idea, since model lines will show in a 3D view for use in our riser diagrams. I'm going to do some research and do a video on creating a custom ball valve family using model lines and annotations combined to make the ultimate valve family. Stay tuned...
@@chrisslattery9924 well you can add the face based families to the front and left view in the family and it should work for displaying. I did it a long time ago. I actually like the idea of using the model lines like the out of the box valve uses. The annotation method is a little tricky.
A question, when drawing your annotation, how did you know it had be scaled to 1/16? It might be easy for a ball valve to scale and draw the symbol, but, for more complicated geometries this can be a bit challenging (to guess a suitable initial scale). Is there another way that you can think of?
Annotations are actually drawn to the actual size they will be on a sheet of paper. Most Annotation symbols are about 1/8" wide. So when drawing your Annotation symbol its always good to stay close to that size. So I drew the circle's radius at 1/16" which would make the circle a total of 1/8" wide. I'd also recommend printing the sheet out with your symbol and making sure it's a good size for your plans. I hope this helps.
Thank for sharing your knowledge!

I would like to get the same annotation symbol to appear in side view and 3d.
Youll likely want to use model lines for your symbol. Model lines show up in all views.
@@mep_guy those are not annotative. I tried to do it the same way you did the ptrap but it did not work
