It tells us, to fight your darkness side/evil with your sword (faith/positive thing) , and keep running into the light (good side) because the Judgement Day is near. Anyway, thank you for your in-depth analysis, this was a great comeback for them, everyone has been upped their level then before. Fami, the new bassist really brought positive things for the band, not just a new style, color, and sound, but the hope. They even said that their bond among members getting tightened from now on.

Victor's live performances Like LOVEBITES have no decrease in performance value. The first time I saw Fami on her RUclips Channel, Victor Wooten is the first thing that came to my mind. She knows the length and breadth of her instrument. We are in for a enjoyable ride.
Victor Wooten is a HUGE influence on all us bassists, it is inevitable to know about him if you become a bassist. I saw him with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones in 2007/08, I even attended a bass clinic he held back then. I got a picture with him too! such a cool guy! I didn't say it in the video, but from the looks of it Fami has even more chops under her belt than the former bassist, but I might be wrong!
@@BMR86 My oldest son handed me a VHS tape back in the early '90's and said, "You'll like this band". It was Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. He was never so right. I have seen them on the East Coast, West Coast and even here in nowhere Texas. Being a mediocre bass player myself, I appreciate those who know how to do it. LOVEBITES has become my favorite band since 2017. So much so, that I stopped working and started listening to them full time. @@DavidGatson My local library had Victor's instructional VHS tapes. That's where I learned slapping, but I learned more about how to think about the instrument and about music overall. Victor's a great bass guitarist, one of the best, but if one wants to parse these things out, I think he's an even better musical philosopher.
@@PaleHorseShabuShabu Yes that was my point. There are a lot of good bass players, but very few actually explore all the intricacies of bass playing. Something that goes up to the next level. I see that in Fami's ability. It could be why she was getting bored and thinking about quitting before she got the gig with LOVEBITES. She needed this level of stimulation. You can't get better or challenge yourself if you have to play with those not at your level or above. Learned that from Victor. LOVEBITES is now like Flint and Steel, the more they play together, the sharper they become.
@@PaleHorseShabuShabu that's very interesting that you found those VHS tapes! for me, I had a musician friend who handed down to me a burned CD with a few of Victor Wooten's tunes, it might have been the entire ripped album of A Show of Hands I can't remember now, that's where I heard the famous "U can't hold no groove" tune.... the look I had on my face the first time I listened to that! I thought "HOW THE HELL DOES A BASS SOUND LIKE THAT! THERE IS NO GODDAMN WAY!!"... then I found he mostly plays 4 string I could not believe it!
A mirror and it’s reflective images play a big part in Judgement Day. Never lived, never died, left or right, who decides, what is right, are all thematic concepts while the central character, played by Asami, tries to escape judgement day while being chased by evil shadow forces, represented by the band members switching into black. But Asami eventually escapes judgement day into the mirror she manages to crack with the sword.😊❤
Leaving the destroyed shards of darkness and division on the floor of the forest of Evil. The Sword of Justice is the only tool one can use to make a just separation. Now run far away and escape into the Light that the new LOVEBITES brings. There will be peace in the valley of your souls. You will be free to ROCK and ROLL! 🤘🏾🤘🏾
The same way you go on a binge with nita Strauss and the warning I strongly suggest you start doing the same with Lovebites and experience what the Wolfpack experienced every day we listen to Lovebites, and explore all the styles and genres they offer. Yeah Nita is ok but I wouldn't buy her albums, the warning is also ok and I have only boughten their first two albums and don't like the new stuff at all, Lovebites, on the other hand, is a very rare gem, a once in a lifetime band. There are only a handful of bands that have many hits in each of the albums and Lovebites has joined those bands and I consider them even so much better that the rest. The video itself can be interpreted differently by each individual if you look closely you will see some black form following her, and of course, anything black that is shaped as a mist, clouds, or evil spirit is used all the time.

You sound like a burner account for Серый Лис and Sal Saucedo, just another toxic, overzealous fanboy. Seems like most of the Japanese bands have them.
Excellent reaction. This is gold standard. Play the 4 piece guitar solo section but listen specifically to Fami. I’m not a musician, in any sense, but I’m astute enough to have heard a different bass riff accompanying each of the 4 individual solos. Fami is an outstanding addition to the band. The word impossible is not in Lovebites vocabulary. Lovebites have just improved upon perfection.
You are correct, she was not only slapping, she was popping too! I hope my hearts holds up while listening to the new album! ❤🔥❤🔥🎶🎶💯💯 PS. I won't be able to travel to Japan....like some people...😏 😁
@@BMR86 Do it. I see it like Alekhidell: Just because Fami's bass lines might sound less silent (less prominent) than the other instruments, it does not mean, that she is playing straight. Fami is too creative and too restless for just playing straight. All her fingers usually _dance_ over the strings. When you listen to Lovebites songs with focus on _her_ (= bass), you will be blown away, how active she is on her bass, even though it might be in "quiet" mode. 😁 When I heard "Judgement Day" first (the current live version, released recently), I at first thought, that Fami could have been more active on her bass. Then I listened to her more attentive - and was surprised, for she is as active as she could possibly be. Fami is just too wild on the bass guitar (just watch her demo videos here on YT), I think they have some work in "taming" her. 😁
Nice Reaction and Analysis. If you check out Fami's base in the opening where she slides into that tap you can see the f inset on the fret board - that is a Bacchus Fami Custom 5-string bass model. I think Judgement Day is referring to all the times in your life where you have to make decisions which determine who you are as a person. Once you make up your mind to do right you have the strength (sword of Justice) to overcome your fears. You have to keep fighting those personal impulses every time you make one of those decisions - so that's why at the end she is still running through the forest, because a future decision could be right around the corner. I think we will need to hear from Asami before we know for sure what it all means.
I love your interpretation! I am looking forward to somebody post the lyrics in the comments to read what it all is about. I can't clearly hear the lyrics most of the times, much less when there is a little bit of an accent like Asami's.
Always some uncertainty when a band line up changes but this first track is hard evidence right from the off that there will be no negative effects from the change. Cant wait for the full album and the next tour that takes in the UK.
As a bass player perhaps you'd be interesting in checking out the Japanese 3-piece band Asterism (the lead guitarist, Hal-Ca, and Miyu, on 7-string bass, are both 20. Miyu's brother Mio, on drums, is only a couple of years older). They are exceptional musicians started the band in 2014-2015. They actually worked with bassist Bootsy Collins on their first full album, entitled 'Ignition', in 2018. Here's a live perfomance from earlier this year. ruclips.net/video/so18e8sltiM/видео.html
Awesome, thank you for the in-depth review to Judgement Day!! I really love this song!! 🤘🐺🤘After a 1 year hiatus this was an amazing welcome back song for a big LB fan like me!! 😁 And im so happy with how well Fami fits in, the back and forth between slap and finger style sounds so good!! This was also her "judgement day" by the fans and she passed the test like a pro!! The song writing in this band is always top tier, Asami's voice sounds stronger than ever!! Really looking forward tot the new album!! If you want some more Lovebites i would def recommend Swan Song - ruclips.net/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/видео.html Enjoy! 🤘
Thank you for the link! it's on my list of reviews to come soon, and like I mentioned in the video, a change in their lineup, especially involving a band founder, is VERY RISKY, but Fami is a great addition, sounds like fans are happy with the decision which is great!
Thanks for the reaction.👍Yes, you are right, Asami runs through the forest and Asami sings. Hair color in the forest and on stage is different. In this MV, everything is built on contrast. White and Вlack. Light and Darkness. Contrast between black hooded cloaks (Witches or Nuns? ) in the dark and White robes of the Goddesses on a brightly lit podium. Perhaps this is a struggle between Darkness and Light, between Evil and Good. Asami runs away from something gloomy, the Dark Force that overtakes her and knocks her down. Somehow this is all connected with the mirror, which Asami breaks with a sword at the end. Maybe everything black and bad that people have is reflected in the mirror? I have such associations. Also throughout the video, Miyako and Fami change their guitars. Depending on what they are wearing, black or white . I can’t say about Midori. In this MV, she plays an ESP E-II Horizon. As far as I know, she has two of these guitars, purple and black. I peered but couldn't understand. Midori uses one guitar or 2 depending on the color of the clothes .... Both song and MV are very good. 😊
Trying to pick this band apart would take a life time for what they are capable of... All one can do is jaw drop with respect the talent they lay upon the table... THIS IS US AND WE PLAY HEAVY METAL! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺
Thanks for your reaction. Just want to say right now Judgement day is number one in the Japan music chart, moved Metallica to the second place. My opinion i think Fami bring something new to the band her style is unique and i think this album it's gonna be their best.
lol! honestly I am shocked that Metallica was number 1 in the Japan music chart, like, what?! Metallica?! I am aware they have new music but yeah, I am glad Lovebites dethroned them! Fami is very good bass player!
according to some beliefs Judgement Day comes in the flash of an eye could explain why she changed her hair color to look brighter same with Haruna I know Fami chose the gray highlights because they resemble a wolf
Great review. I'm a Japanese man and often have different point of view from people of the western culture, but I have very similar interpretation of yours now. I think that symbolizes yourself haunted by dark side and light side of yourself, and you fight your dark side then must pay scot someday, that is the Judgement Day. If you take a look at the face of the album, moon and sun are illustrated, and also a wolf holding a scale in her mouth. Not only Asami but also Midori, all biological native Japanese have dark hair. BTW, I think Asami can be an actress as well. She is basically a dancer and now she is a great singer. She is a great total performer IMO.
FAMI - Lovebites MISA - Band-Maid MIYO - Asterism 3 of the best Rock/Metal bassists on the planet. Not even Billy Sheehan sounds better because he's got a crappy bass sound since the 80's. Yes he's one of the best bassists around since decades back. My all time favorite rock/metal bands in order: 1.Band-Maid 2. Lovebites 3. Asterism
I can't choose from these 3 bands are No 1!! AND then You have Nemophila coming up, Hagane is gearing up and even Shonen Knife has got a successor in Junky58% after all these years. Shonen Knife is a huge nostalgic kick for me, listen to them since 1993. Something big is happening in Japan now ( well it started a long time ago) but You know what I mean and it is a good time to live in for us metalheads... Japan is the successor of the Scandinavian metal wave....
add "F-Chopper Koga" from Gacharic Spin and You have 4 Brilliantly talented Bassists then there is "Bo" from the Kami//Kari Band to make it the Fabulous Five
Pronunciation police: FAH-mee with the vowel of father, not as in "famine". I think the video means that you should not enshrine in your mind bad things that happened to you (as represented by the picture frame), but smash that old memory and carry on. The tools for that can be found in your mind as well (the sword is part of the story within the picture frame).
I've gotta say, the Japanese A is actually more like the "a" in "cat", you may be perpetuating bad information here. If you think about how some really common words sound (arigatou, Gomennasai), it's just closer to cat. With the word father it's kind of like you're sounding out the "au" in "authenticate". Saying this I've not heard a Japanese person pronounce Fami's name, but It's probably very close to how you would say "family"
@@ashleyo7602 Actually the Japanese /a/ is very much like the German short /a/. Are you British? Then, depending on your particular accent, you are likely correct since the vowel /æ/ is indeed [a] (sometimes still fronted a bit) in most modern British accents. However, I was giving that advice because I was addressing an American who is probably not a linguist. I'm aware that the vowel of father is too far back in the mouth to correspond to Japanese [a], but in an American accent that vowel (or the vowel of Tommy for some accents) is the closest approximation. I just wanted to combat the pronunciation [fæmi] I was starting to hear from American reactors. Yep. I'm a linguist. Sorry 'bout that. 😄
@@ashleyo7602 i would say you are wrong, but I guess your accent plays a part in it, saying the "fa" in fami is read like the fa in father still leaves open a lot of interpretations because of accent, while its the right pronunciation for me, it can be wrong for others. best thing is to watch some video that explains Japanese vowels.
@@nanoscorner6976 while I was filiming this video, I paused for a second, and said Fami out loud with both sounds for the letter A, I decided to go with Fami, like "family", it sounded more natural, Fami with the A like "father" sounds really weird...

I think we will need to hear from Asami before we know for sure what it all means.
I love your interpretation! I am looking forward to somebody post the lyrics in the comments to read what it all is about. I can't clearly hear the lyrics most of the times, much less when there is a little bit of an accent like Asami's.
February can't come soon enough.
I am pumped!
Always some uncertainty when a band line up changes but this first track is hard evidence right from the off that there will be no negative effects from the change. Cant wait for the full album and the next tour that takes in the UK.
I agree! This change in the lineup is doing so many good things for them!
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
As a bass player perhaps you'd be interesting in checking out the Japanese 3-piece band Asterism (the lead guitarist, Hal-Ca, and Miyu, on 7-string bass, are both 20. Miyu's brother Mio, on drums, is only a couple of years older). They are exceptional musicians started the band in 2014-2015. They actually worked with bassist Bootsy Collins on their first full album, entitled 'Ignition', in 2018.
Here's a live perfomance from earlier this year.

thank you for the link! yes, they are on my list!
Phenomenal song by an incredible band. I never thought a band like Lovebites could get any better, but they have.
The addition of Fami in the band is surely a 1 up!

Awesome, thank you for the in-depth review to Judgement Day!! I really love this song!! 🤘🐺🤘After a 1 year hiatus this was an amazing welcome back song for a big LB fan like me!! 😁
And im so happy with how well Fami fits in, the back and forth between slap and finger style sounds so good!!
Lovebites return with a vengeance! Just seems like it's a lifelong quest to "defeat the darkness" song
a neverending quest at that!
So, this is the f....ricking line-up. Who should want to follow them on stage...? 😁
Thank you for your comment! Very agreeable observations!
Trying to pick this band apart would take a life time for what they are capable of... All one can do is jaw drop with respect the talent they lay upon the table... THIS IS US AND WE PLAY HEAVY METAL! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺
I am realizing now, every Lovebites video I make, they end up being very long! lol!
U have been told before, NEVER pause during a solo
LOLOLOL! I think I've learned my lesson!
Lovebites is in first place in front of Metallica on Japanese charts.
I can't believe Metallica was in the 1st place to begin with!
@@BMR86 Miyako is a big fan of Metallica 🤘
according to some beliefs Judgement Day comes in the flash of an eye could explain why she changed her hair color to look brighter same with Haruna I know Fami chose the gray highlights because they resemble a wolf
nice!
Thank you for your comment! all these women are incredible performers!
FAMI - Lovebites
MISA - Band-Maid
MIYO - Asterism
3 of the best Rock/Metal bassists on the planet.
Not even Billy Sheehan sounds better because he's got a crappy bass sound since the 80's. Yes he's one of the best bassists around since decades back.
My all time favorite rock/metal bands in order:
1.Band-Maid
2. Lovebites
Japan is the successor of the Scandinavian metal wave....
oh! a new band is mentioned in my comments, I will add Asterism to my list!
@@BMR86 Asterism is a phenomenal band. Start with their original songs. Rising Moon MV is their first MV. Go from there is a good advice.
add "F-Chopper Koga" from Gacharic Spin and You have 4 Brilliantly talented Bassists then there is "Bo" from the Kami//Kari Band to make it the Fabulous Five
Next please ruclips.net/video/XMAHkEwp4NI/видео.html Gugun Blues Shelter with Fajar Adi Nugroho grazy bass player from Indonesia
Thank you for the suggestion!
🤘🐺♠👸🤘🔆 *LOVEBITES* 🔆
Pronunciation police: FAH-mee with the vowel of father, not as in "famine".
I think the video means that you should not enshrine in your mind bad things that happened to you (as represented by the picture frame), but smash that old memory and carry on. The tools for that can be found in your mind as well (the sword is part of the story within the picture frame).
lol! arrest me! in all fairness, I'm a huge grammer nazi, but thanks for the clarification, and that's a good interpretation btw.
If you stop the guitar solo in the middle, it's ruined. I was very disappointed.
go watch the original video, then come back to mine and let me know what you thought about the solos.
have you ever heard of hair color.
what? hair color? what are you talking about?
The video reminds me of some of Epica from the last years. Only that recordings of the band are in white
I love Epica!
