  • Fred Moten speaks to the etymology and usage of the word "lecture," citing from Frederick Douglass, while introducing the problem inherent in being the one who is "chosen" or "called" to speak. Moten and Stefano Harney's collaborative lecture, on Wednesday April 6, 2022, in San Francisco, is titled "Involvement and Betrayal" (On Andaiye, Martin Carter, Guyana and what Michelle Cliff calls "the centerless, outward edgelessness of the Caribbean"). The second of four linked talks at four Bay Area locations, sponsored by the Bagley Wright Lecture Series on Poetry, this evening was presented by The Poetry Center, San Francisco State University, in collaboration with The Green Arcade, and hosted by McRoskey Mattress Co.
