I get taken aback when I see how much the Yard has changed. It was once all soccer fields long after the rail yard days. Today it’s townhouses with a BRT line and now this Station! Really love design and art installations, especially the cherry blossom mural on the north entrance.

The station's design was partially inspired by the Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas! The chapel was designed by E. Fay Jones and was constructed in 1980. E. Fay Jones was an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, and the chapel is of the Prairie School style that Wright popularized! Only 20 years after it was built, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which usually isn't even given to buildings less than fifty years old unless said building is very significant! The chapel itself was inspired by the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle in Paris and is meant to be a non-denominational place for meditation in a forested landscape that can seat up to 100 people. Fay affectionately labeled Thorncrown’s style as “Ozark Gothic.” The chapel rises 48 feet into the sky with over 6,000 square feet of glass and 425 windows. Its dimensions are 24 feet by 60 feet. The chapel is made with all organic materials to fit its natural setting. It's surrounded by rock formations and a canopy of trees, so the chapel is indeed quite beautiful!

It has a similar look to NoMa but of course more modern. Almost like in-fill stations always have the same architect.

Channels like NJB can make North America look bleak but there are solid areas that are better than others. I live near a town called Manassas that gets 4 bus routes, each around once an hour and I'm an hours walk to the closest bus stop so many places are far from adequate.
The DC Metro is probably the highest quality rapid transit in the US, it's one of the most expensive but at least you get high quality service (mostly).

Good review! The aesthetics of Potomac Yard are really nice, but I feel like the physical design is a bit impractical. The walk to get out of the station (via the western exit) seems really long, especially if you start from the south end of the platform. I definitely love that they included the neighborhood on the east side of the station, though. It’s also cool how it feels more open than many other above-ground stations (probably from the lack of plain concrete walls surrounding you)!
yeah there's prob a reason they built it how they did, they prob assumed that most people wouldn't be going to the Exchange/Potomac intersection.

I hate when the train platform has two separate platforms where u gotta take escalators or steps to go to the other side I like it when it's just one platform and the tracks are on each side more
I'd see this as a problem at transfer stations, but bc PY isn't, I don't think it's a problem, but I do prefer the island platform type.
