Turning yo-yo tricks into an entire 3D platformer moveset is the coolest idea I have seen from indie games thus far. And there have been a LOT of creative indies lately! Way to stand out above the crowd guys, you deserve your recognition.
This is definitely the most unique Sonic Successor ive seen. In the case of Freedom Planet and Spark, rolling is a concept reserved for specific scenarios and characters, and they focus more on combat. Rollin Rascal has the most direct inspiration using rolling as a key mechanic. Penny using the yo yo as a means of accessing momentum is an amzing compromise, as your character can move with precision and consistency, while using the yo-yo trades that for momentum and speed. Its amazing every single time to see fans rise from their fan game origins to indie game hits. Freedom Planet started as a fan game, Spark the Electric Jester came after Sonic Before/After the Sequel and Chrono Adventure, and Rollin' Rascal comes from Sonic GT. Its great to see this legendary team join the ranks of these insanely talented fans, nurturing the fanbase with their own takes on momentum platforming. Let's all welcome Penny!
The moment they said "available now" I booked it out of my chair and ran to my switch, on world 4 now and I'm loving every second of this game. Thank you Evening Star/ Mania Team for this wonderful Creation you made
I don't think we're doing anyone any favors by weaponizing games (especially indie ones) against Sonic. Let's just enjoy cool new games on their own merits 😀

Finished world 11 last night. 10/10. My only wishes are for a CRT filter and for an optional high contrast drop shadow under penny like in Crash 4 bc sometimes it’s hard to tell where she’s gonna land. But holy shit this game is QUALITY
I knew at the first trailer that I’d have to buy this at launch. Just let me get my next check. And bauhaus as the main art design influence?!?! That’s wild.
oh please, since when has GOTY cared about real passion and not wannabe movie games, it's up to all of us to make sure these games get the spotlight they deserve. better yet, up to indies and their players to keep the industry moving. I'd kill for another dozen games as beautiful as this one, and I bet it's already inspiring someone!
I bought two copies ! One on switch and one on ps5 . Everybody support this masterpiece so we can get sequels !!! And also maybe added level packs and new modes and stuff to this game !!!!
Yes . I would 100% wholeheartedly call it a modern day masterpiece . And I just hope it doesn’t become one of those games that’s insanely good that just for whatever reason never becomes a franchise and never gets a sequel and just basically disappears . I really hope that doesn’t happen . . I mean sonic mania never got a sequel which sucks but they also had to deal with sega for that to happen . With this , it is 100% their own creation so it will be easy for sequels to happen . As long as this game makes money obviously
if Metroid Prime Remastered, Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey & Mario 3D World can run at 60fps on Switch, I feel like this should be able to run at 60fps as well. need a patch for a performance mode with lowered detail & resolution at a locked 60fps... make that happen.
there's a reason why those games all run at 60fps on switch, they're first party, therefore more likely to have optimization. let's hope a patch releases someday soon!
11 WORLDS? Bruh I'm on world 6 and thought I was almost done LMAO I'm so in love this game right now and I'm pretty much ignoring trying to 100% it so I have an excuse to go back to it (other than just having fun trying to speedrun the levels and get high scores). I also haven't done any of those unlockable extra levels yet so I'm looking forward to those too!
You guys should really consider making a more in-depth video explaining fluid gameplay. The basics are here but I keep landing all the time losing all my speed, and given the on-foot movement is as agile as a wheelbarrow I'd really appreciate a few insider tips to keep going fast.
This trailer should have been in the direct, way more hype and people would understand what the game actually is better, but i guess that's budget issue
hope the accolades trailer's description is this "For our first game, we did well enough to get some Reviews in by some Critics, see what they got to say about our debut title, besides, you might wanna pick this up someday..."
I'm finding the controls in this game to be pretty difficult to get used to. Using the twin sticks for movement and the yo-yo and pressing the bumper to jump feels weird. This was helpful though.
I note that in the accessibility info on the Xbox store it says there is "single stick gameplay" but this video seems to indicate otherwise - can anyone confirm the control options available? I have an accessibility issue with my hand that hinders my gameplay in some games so just looking for clarification before I buy! Thank you :)
You can use either the right stick or the X button + left stick to aim the yo-yo. It shouldn't be a problem if you can use the face buttons. Additionally, you can jump and roll using both shoulder and face buttons.
I love that this game exists, and I truly hope it does well. But I do genuinely have a hard time looking at it. I usually don't have this problem, but it's just way too saturated. I don't want a return to Xbox 360 era gritty brown games, but this one has gone much too far in the other direction
Shame you guys couldn't get this running at 60fps on Switch, especially after the reveal trailer in the June Direct was that smooth. At least it's incentive to finally try and use my gaming laptop more
@@nobodycares607 initial, Superstars was supposed to handled by Evening Star, but a fallout between them and Sonic Team lead to the former parting ways and developing this game.
I bought my copy the second it dropped on Steam. Hoping this sells millions like it deserves, I want to see this become a franchise!
