I’m a flute player, but I used to be apart of an honor society that did a brass instrument clean out every year.
    For elementary schools.
We would work through eight different schools with about...ten to fifteen instruments each. We could start around 2:30 PM, and finish around 5-6 PM, depending on how many workers we had that year. (My first year there were only four of us, and our director.)
I was meticulous about how I cleaned the ones that passed by me, but...the things we found in those instrument.
I found a lego figure in a euphonium. Practically everything was black in them.
My director was confused when he couldn’t get water out of the bell of a tuba. He reached in, and we all heard something crunch.
He pulled out an entire sandwich in a ziplock bag. He just started at us with the most done expression while we all cracked up.
    Ahhh good times.

I'd refrain from using Brasso on slides as it is an abrasive polishing compound. Try using a degreaser like purple power. It'll remove all that old oil and grease without messing with the metal . . . well, unless you don't rinse thoroughly. The balloon tip was cool; very clever! All in all, a very cool video, man. I feel like cleaning horns is such a foreign concept to a lot of music students, and it's refreshing to see something like this.

Those soaking periods are way over the top. I simply use my brush and some warm soapy water, then rinse throughly under the tap. It’s all done well in a couple of minutes. Hint: use a slightly heavier oil on the threads, just a drop will do. That will prevent sticking the next time you go to unscrew the caps.

Brasso is abrasive. Eventually you will remove enough metal that the slide will not stay in place. This will mean that your instrument will not stay in place. Use dry cleaning fluid to clean the slides. Once you have polished the instrument, go over it with a silicone based polish. This will slow down the development of tarnish on silver plate instruments and make water and spittle stains easier to remove on silver, brass and lacquered instruments.

My section uses some of this stuff to clean our good sousaphones and it takes a long time but it’s so good in the end because it’s literally a mirror and we’ve had them for over 5 years now and they still look new.

I definitely can't do any of this with my clarinet and I probaby can't dip my saxophone in a bathtub, but I wonder if any of this can be applied to a saxophone since much of the instrument is made of metal.

By taking all of the slides out, this really helps drain all the spit from the Horn, & it becomes really pronounced on a French Horn cause it's circular.

I picked up a lot of my own cleaning techniques from Drum corps too! I marched Music City last season and have been using a very similar cleaning style
Only real difference is that I use Wrights silver polish for my horn. I've been looking for an answer on Can I use Wrights silver polish on a brass horn? I'm assuming that, while it might not be the best, it wont damage the horn but I would love to know.
also while I'm here, What drum corps did you march, and when?
