Warning! If you live in the USA, be VERY careful handling any old timbers, IF they have been coated with creosote. If you get a sliver, you can actually go into renal failure; YES, this is true. When my husband was having dialysis in a renal center, he met a man who had renal failure caused by this occurrence.
Thanks! Came to say this. Creosote turns the wood dark. Arsenic turns the wood green/dark green. Treated wood like this is not supposed to be used in a manner where it can be exposed to human skin. So ok to reuse as fence posts, no for furniture/parts of buildings/benches.

The problem with recycling timber such as this is the high probability of cutting in buried nails / stones/ assorted metal pieces. As a long time professional restorer & conservator of antique furniture I often come across historical poor repairs where nails, screws, steel rod, metal straps are secreted in side the timber. So just by accidentally catching such a thing with a bandsaw blade, chainsaw blade, planer - thicknesser will mean extra expense not to mention frustration!
Not to mention than, appart from various steel bit, the railway sleepers are stuffed with nasty chemicals to keep them in shape as long as possible. Not the kind you'd like to get in direct contact with...
Торопился немного, может время поджимало, план ребята гонят😁. Можно было поинтереснее сделать. В целом неплохо за таким столом в таверне на берегу океана ром попить, кофейку и сигару выкурить любуясь закатом.
You should have used more glue on the table top the wood is so dry it won't stick together. How is the table getting used? Work bench or storage table? Don't use for food if its treated!
It's interesting as an effort, but it lacks length, feels rushed, and looks a bit clunky. The wood did not have a proper treatment considering that it is getting quite old, it is potentially beautiful but leaving the cracks just like that does not seem best to me. Joining the pieces with a simple screw is to diminish the potential of the result. There are aged screws with a round head or perhaps with dowels made of another wood. The design looks frieme but does not highlight the essence of the sleeper wood.
Just take wood from train tracks 😛 Seriously though, never saw wood of this caliber being thrown away or wasted. Certainly not at its present price and use for furniture or buildings.
He's not using his tools properly in this video (bandsaw especially). Why didn't he stablize the wood with epoxy? Its going to come apart soon. This is not a video to emulate.
Stop finding fault. These guys are doing a brilliant job without modern tools. Give them credit. Their craft is handed down without safety first. Check out the videos with the Indian craftsmen, metal working without shoes etc. I come from an engineering background, was a Health and Safety Officer as well. So accept how they work...
@@whitediamondchild111 Indians aren't savages :D that came out all kinds of wrong... Anyways, I buy lumber from a nearby sawmill. In Bangalore, India. The workers there do wear safety shoes. Why do they put screws in the structure? Wooden pegs would do exactly the same function. Maybe even better and if he chose a dark color, even more effective. That's good quality carpentry work.
I'd stay away from these in the US. Railways here use wood that has been treated with Creosote. Nasty stuff that can blister the skin just from the sawdust.
*_The value of your work is that you use even old and recycled wood and get the most out of something. I congratulate you and wish you success._*

I can't believe there was no warning by the creator. Creosote is no joke. This is extremely dangerous. Thanks for your post.

I wonder what type of wood those railway sleepers are.

Agreed! While the intent is good, this thing will start rotting in a few years. Especially if it is used as a dining table
Not to mentionn its toxic as hell

Whatever. The reclaimed wood that I've used is never going to rot it's like petrified so unless it's just crumbling from the get-go he's good to go
Where is the wood treatment against termites and pests?
I wonder what kind of finish you put on wood that still has bugs crawling out of it
What part of America are you from? I've never, ever seen any American measure something in centimetres. I guess the USA is semi- metric?!?!
Maybe Central America?

lol...some contain arsenic and other hazardous treatments... be careful
Chunky..is this a butcher's chopping block?
По русски это называется -" из говна и палок..."🤣
Если по русски "коту делать нече, он коки лижет".
Bandsaw just waiting to grab an arm or hand.damn dangerous.
Так работать нельзя- опасно!
