Good god, I hope you're joking. Billy's version is raw and original, Kirsty's is a different take and wonderful...this is a total musical car crash if ever I witnessed one.
@ I’m not joking. I’m aware it’s not perfect but it’s nice to see two artists melding two urgent songs that they wrote at roughly the same age, about the same sort of feeling, decades apart. You seem like the kind of guy who would lecture a bored houseguest about their audio set up. It’s a flawed performance but there’s a raw energy to it. They seem overjoyed to be playing together. I love it
Around 1981/82 I went with my friends to Danceteria in NYC. At some point during the night we made our way to the roof of the building and all of a sudden some English guy with a guitar starts playing this amazing song, A New England. It was Billy Bragg whom none of us had ever heard of and we were blown away. He was incredible. I’ll never forget that night.
"I saw two shooting stars last night and wished on them but they were only satellites, it's wrong to wish on space hardware, I wish, I wish you cared" is possibly one of the greatest lyrics in a love song ever
this is literally the most amazing thing ever. they are my two favourite singers ever. i was raised listening to billy bragg, and i also love kate nash's music. this is like my life put into one.
First time I watched that .... & they both bossed it! Saw Billy in the 80’s on the Red Wedge tour. Some things never grow old ..... “I don’t want to change the world I’m just looking for a New England”. Don’t even get me started on politics. I’m up for feeding hungry children. But children - my friends- were hungry in the 80’s in the north east during the miners strike. Glad this song never loses it’s relevance.......
billy is simply brilliant and kate nash is good as well. anything billy does is amazing it does not matter if it's music or politics. I always love billy.
Great Duet and choice of song. I wish they sang the "Kirsty" verse at the end of A New England. My dreams were full of strange ideas My mind was set despite your fears But other things got in the way I never asked that boy to stay Once upon a time at home I sat beside the telephone Waiting for someone to pull me through When at last it didn't ring I knew it wasn't you
You can find more songs by Billy on my YT channel. Check it out. By the way, I think Billy should tour with a band a lot more often. Violin and trumpet harmonize wonderfully with his voice.
i fucking loved this version! i think kate's actually a good singer. maybe not in the classic term, but i love her tones! and a new england is just bloody fantastic. 5stars
This is great on a couple of different levels. I hadn't heard Kate Nash before this , but both Kate, and the girl in the song, seem the perfect match for Bill and the guy in The Saturday Boy, or Shirley. That's why I like this pairing up so much.
I really liked this :) I like Kate Nash anyway, even though a lot of you are saying she was terrible, her voice isn't perfectly auto-tuned and I prefer it that way
Majestic, One of a few songs about love and mind set, that if we were all honest, can be very hard, The chairman Frank Sinatra, said the best love songs make you feel it without telling you how to feel, Chow Bella!!!!!!
A previous commenter asked, perhaps rhetorically, what's better (than Billy Bragg and Kate Nash)? I responded, partly tongue-in-cheek, Billy Bragg and Kirsty MacColl, who sang the original version of "A new England". You can find a live performance of this song featuring Billy and Kirsty on RUclips.
A decade and a half of rewatching this. It’s my favourite version of New England. Incredible
💯
you have good unconventional taste in songs.but i guess u knew that already ...😂 3:28

2023, kate Nash is still incredible, underrated and under played, the cribs are the best live band still and Billy Bragg is still a legend 🤲
Amen brother.

Great times at a great era. Danceteria, Peppermint Lounge in NYC. Emerald City and City Gardens in Jersey great times.
82? lifes a riot was in 1983, and I'm fairly sure his autobiography says he hadn't been abroad before it was released.
This duet has added such a new and deeper dimension to the song. Absolutely stunning.
"I saw two shooting stars last night and wished on them but they were only satellites, it's wrong to wish on space hardware, I wish, I wish you cared" is possibly one of the greatest lyrics in a love song ever
Grassy Gnoll it's space hardware not harder !?!/,?!!
I've always thought: "Waiting for someone to pull me through, when at last it didn't ring I knew it wasn't you" was so Zen as to be exquisite.
You can see when Kate sings this she almost gets a Glastonbury moment ie 😁- bless her.
@@neilandrews6169 Thanks, I just noticed (that's two years, so I'm getting better). And fixed.
SPOT ON, BEAUTIFULL IN ITS SIMPLICATY !
this is literally the most amazing thing ever. they are my two favourite singers ever. i was raised listening to billy bragg, and i also love kate nash's music. this is like my life put into one.
Great song, Kate Nash's voice really adds something to it.
Definitely!
great collaboration - love how the female/male perspectives on ending bad relationships blend here. Well done.
Wow, best performance of the 30 years I've loved this song. Didn't those decades go by quickly???⏳
Of course I think an original diet with Kirsty McColl would be best but I've yet to find it.
Hello from the future

That just gave me goosebumps..... Awesome!
2 Classic Songs. Billy is a legend to our generation.
billy is simply brilliant and kate nash is good as well. anything billy does is amazing it does not matter if it's music or politics. I always love billy.
Is he daed yet ?
Totally cool. Kate Nash puts a brilliant twist on a classic.
I was 21 years when I wrote this song I'm 22 now but I wont be for long✌🏻 what a track
What an amazing match-up, Kate Nash and Billy Bragg, who would believe it?!
Great to see a younger generation share a billy brag masterpiece. I ffff luved it
Pretty well done. An unusual combination, but it works. New England will never get old.
you'd think they would take the time or trouble to find a good harmony but noooooo
Nice word here a men from holland;)
WOW. Amazing! I'd love to see this live anywhere!
Kates voice complements Billys so well. This is poetry in motion.
complements.
It's the music of the working class, done well it will always work together
Kate Nash - Billy Brag
Some things should never happen. That clearly wasn't one of them. Brilliant.
I think my dad would have liked this as much as I do.
Kirsty MacColl rest in peace.
You were always an Angel 🥰🙏🏻🕊
Not sure how I hadn't seen this in the decade since it was uploaded, but glad I found it by chance today.
Brilliant, absolutely! Great duet, how can anyone not love this ,get some taste..
A real life love song 😞 fantastic duet!
There needs to be a studio version of this duet
Love this Video - like the lyrics they compliment each other so well and come over as authentically genuine!!!
Thanks for posting this, excellent
Wow. Great collaboration Billy Brag is great and so is Kate Nash.
ahhhh I can't stop watching this!
Love this odd mix of songs and voices! Regarding the dislike of the accents by brits its kust stupid cause its thier greatest selling point 👌
what a brilliant duet, thankyou for uploading
I now absolutely love Kate Nash between this and GLOW. I've loved Billy Bragg since a child.
Absolutely outstanding performance
It was awful. Kirsty MacColl must be spinning in her grave.
@@Doppelfrog wasn't her song to start with.
@@spiderweenie No, but her version's still much better than this.
It sooo rocks'. In memory of 1995 and mad times ... Stay wild, babe. und definitiv, wenn
du in England bist schau vorbei !!!
The irony is that I was looking for "A New England" when I found this.
Totally same
I must listen to this atleast twice a week, pretty much my ultimate song 🦉👍🙏❤️
Great Duet and choice of song. I wish they sang the "Kirsty" verse at the end of A New England.
My dreams were full of strange ideas
My mind was set despite your fears
But other things got in the way
I never asked that boy to stay
Once upon a time at home
I sat beside the telephone
Waiting for someone to pull me through
When at last it didn't ring I knew it wasn't you
that's my favourite part too
because she giggles abit there
and the music cuts out for a while
then comes back in again after;
it works well.
How can you not like this song? He's so fascinating. this Kate Nash is a great compliment.
I was 21 when I wrote this song - now I'm 22 but I won't be for long. insanely deep lyric

i fucking loved this version!

Both are such great artists
Hell yeah!
Had Billy's first album on tape back in the day. What a class collaboration
Still love this version of both now
This is wonderful, how did i ever miss it :-(
bill played my local festival few years ago. Kate Nash is headline this year. cm'on bill get down to saarfend again!
This is great on a couple of different levels. I hadn't heard Kate Nash before this , but both Kate, and the girl in the song, seem the perfect match for Bill and the guy in The Saturday Boy, or Shirley. That's why I like this pairing up so much.
Fantastic!! Thanks for posting!!
Billy Bragg, ladies and gentle man. Legend.
The dogs bollocks
this should be recorded and released, please.
Epic version and recording!
Just seeing the title of this made me like Kate Nash..
I'ma watch it once it loads...
When I watch this I feel like I am in heaven.
Wow... pleasant surprise. Billy & Kate's voices work so well together on the chorus.
awsome song. love this version
This is fabulous❤
This is my favorite thing ever.
Dunno why but this moved me to tears
This was wonderful, Billy and katey
The thing that passes between them at 2:37-2:47!
" I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them, but they were only satellites!"
yeah i bet billy showed her stars somewhere else ;)
nice combination. two legends, well legends in my eyes
100 per cent !
Sheer fucking Genius.
Seems like an odd combination, and I'm not usually that big a fan of either. However, this works well. Really well. Surprised. Thanks for uploading.
id love to see this live
I recon the two of them could sing most of Billy’s songs and it would be fantastic.
amazing.....
Awe reminds me of Kirsty Maccoll.
@greenblacky BILLY DID write this, Kirsty Mccol recorded a version some time later, with an extra verse.
I love Kate Nash, I love Billy Bragg and I love this song...and then together 😊. (Still love Kirsty's too though).
Unlike most of the other posts here, I really like this mix and think that their voices work really well together.
And kirsty almost certainly wouldn't have a problem with this collabiration.
best ever compilation of 2songs
Oh my, both of them are even better live.
i would definatly buy this if it were released as a single. Billy and kate are brilliant together!
Shrs brilliant as is billyvas aways
Good singer songwriter
I really liked this :) I like Kate Nash anyway, even though a lot of you are saying she was terrible, her voice isn't perfectly auto-tuned and I prefer it that way
wow love the accent both of them are great nice
Majestic, One of a few songs about love and mind set, that if we were all honest, can be very hard, The chairman Frank Sinatra, said the best love songs make you feel it without telling you how to feel, Chow Bella!!!!!!
A bit of a shock on the change. Billy's voice is so rough compared to Kate's. But I fucking love them both!

God I Love This SONG!!!
wow this is just brilliant!
lol, I like how the uploader felt compelled to tell everyone they don't actually like the song.
shes sooo cutte!!!!
Billy Bragg is amazinggg !!

Can no one get the poetry here. too modern poets sharing their best work just happens to be in song

Big Love for this.
