He even makes the digressions and dramatic pauses thrilling. Each time he says "this is all true," I get more thrilled to hear what comes next. Brilliant.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THAT IS THE WAY IT IS. Sorry. Could be the way the tape dubbed. It's from 1975/76 and had water damage, but I simply do not know. Not dome intentionally.
"Who loves you baby" telly savalas brilliant and charming. Kojak, kellys heroes big Joe was great to watch. The world misses people like telly. R.I.P Sir.
Telly was a scene stealer extraordinaire. Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes to name but a few. His take on celebrity and success speaks much of his calibre as a man.
Telly Savalas was and still is a phenomenal actor and just a charming cool guy. I wished I could have had the opportunity to meet him in person and I admire his approach to life. I have always been a great admirer of his acting and his personality. I am so glad that his interviews and photos and movies are available to watch. He was so versatile and just a brilliant man. I know he is known for Kojak, but before his movies he was in so many television shows in the late 50s and 60s and you should really check out some of his performances like the man from uncle the episode from Hitchcock hour. And his performance and run for your life and they are just so many rest in peace Mr. Savalas you are definitely missed. To quote him I’ll live life as it comes. Who loves you baby I do RIP.
2:02 - 2:38/ Very telling that this great man had the foresight to realize how fleeting stardom can be! Always keep it humble and remain true to yourself. That amount of self-awareness exudes so much confidence that I believe this is what attracted so many viewers to him. As an actor AND human being, what more can you do but be happy about life and get paid pretty well to do it. My only wish would be as an adult now to have met Mr. Savalas at the height of the KOJAK series and thank him so much for being himself. Makes me wonder though. Could you imagine Telly Savalas being interviewed by Keanu Reeves!?
Many qualities in Savalas, no doubt. The less evident: a person of both experience and culture, high intelligence, but also genuinely humble, humane and polite. Telly loves people, loves life, knows right from wrong, and presents a model persona, which lives on, beyond his time..
My FIL worked as an extra on the set on Alcatraz Island. I have a picture of him standing next to Telly. My FIL said he was the most down to earth guy and very genuine and kind. He was friendly with all the extras and never put himself above anyone. Not like some other stars we worked with. What a guy. Who loves you baby? We love you Telly!
What a guy! He worked hard to help fund electricity for one of the Greek islands. He helped John Aniston (nee Yannis Anastassakis) by getting him on Kojak for at least 2 episodes (under his Greek name) and John later had a 37 year run on "Days of Our Lives". Telly became Godfather to his daughter actress Jennifer Aniston!
I think Kojak is the best American cop show, better than Mannix, Colombo and all the rest. This is the first time I have heard mr. Savalas in an interview. He was one in a million. R.I.P.
And the story never changed. It's all truth. That ghost came back to him 3 times in total.... there is something about the number 3...... he mentions 3 days, 3 years earlier Johnny killed himself. Three is powerful....

That was the best interview I think I ever seen. Fantasic interview and fantastic interviewee. WOW Now thats an interview. I had this dream I won a lot of money.
A great man . Had him and his manager as passengers in my London taxi a few months before he passed. His story about St Georges hospital Hyde Park corner is hilarious. RIP Telly we love yer
at the 9:30 mark, he quickly throws the cigarette butt into the Thames river, like it's nothing ... LoL ... I luv the NY way he says "3 thousan dollarz" when telling the story of buying the race horse 13:45
Mr Savalas portrayed what his fellow Grecians were geniuses at ! Philosophy , mathematical judgement and super intelligence ! Oh and his artistry and craft were pretty special too . Perfect concentration was another gift he possessed ...laser focus for the job in hand . What a brilliant legacy he left us all to enjoy , forever !
Telly told this story before but he left something out during this particular interview, the man with the high-pitched voice that gave Telly a ride to the gas station and gave Telly the $1.00 to buy the gas, died a few years back. In other words, Telly was picked up on the side of the road by a ghost. Now, the reason the guy had the high-pitched voice, when in real life, his voice was deep, was because he shot himself in the throat. That part, Telly left out. You can find the whole story on You Tube. He swears it’s true. Why would he lie? What motivation? Telly described the man’s clothes to his wife and they were the same clothes he was buried in. Who knows? The only way we can find out is, when we pass on or if one of us happens to be visited by a ghost. I hope if anyone gets a visit, it’s from a friendly ghost. Be well. 😊
Yes, he did leave that part out about how he committed suicide. I guess he didn’t want to go too dark. What a story. And you are right, why would he lie?
Why would Telly lie about the story? What reason would he have? If it's all made up, I would really loose a lot of respect for him. That's something that hits home. Telly actually told that story with deep commitment from the heart. You don't say things like that unless it's true. I believed him when he told that story. I would hate for him to be lying about something as so compelling and so heartfelt as that story. That's terrible if he's lying about that poor man.
I mean he was a gambler, even though very charming and interesting, he wasn't quite right in his head. So of course it never happened, he is an artist kinda person, they are all on the loony side.
What I would give for him to come back for at least a day to see the Woke Hollywood and Cancel culture and all the nonsense that abounds. Great man, great actor, and able to make one think and one laugh.
Academy Award winning ? The late great Telly Savalas (wonderfully talented actor) never won an Oscar. Though he was nominated for Best Supporting Oscar for 1962s "Birdman of Alcatraz". Sadly, he didn't win. I did enjoy this interview with him. Mr Boggs is a fine interviewer. Asks intelligent questions, patiently listens and lets his subjects finish. Both Mr Boggs and Mr Savalas : CLASS ACTS !
The Birdman of Alcatraz..... my FIL was an extra and said Telly was the most genuine, kind hearted, down to earth guy he had ever met. It was Telly's first real movie. I didn't know that. I have pictures of my FIL standing next to Telly what a treasure that was for him to work on the island with someone of this calibre.

The story was real. The widow confirmed it and told Telly a future event, more than once. About the baseball player and then on the golf course about the death of Pres. Kennedy.
