Harry Genn that's a nice engine. You'll have to play around with the ratio, as I'm sure you know the spool diameter, the sprocket, and the TAV gearing will change all that. If I were you I would make everything you can adjustable. Make the spool diameter adjustable from like 4in to 10in depending on how much line you have on the spool. Then buy a sprocket for the spool that you can easily swap out the teeth count on. Maybe start with a 42 tooth or so, maybe 40 would be good too. The TAV should come with like a 6 and 10 tooth sprocket to gear up with. Just make sure you match up your chain size to fit both those sprockets and you'll be alright. Anyway it's hard for my to give you an exact answer. I don't know: what speed you want, how much what you're pulling weighs, what you're using your winch for (snow/water), I don't know the specs for torque on that engine off the top of my head, and I don't know how long your line in going to be. All I can do is help you design something that will be easy to adjust. Hope that helps! Good luck bro, send me some pictures!
You use a special high-flow airfilter. Does the motor have more power with this filter, even if you dont have an extra exaust-pipe? (I want to use a 6,5 HP Honda replica)
How does that winch do for paraglider towing? I'm thinking about building one for static towing and was wondering if you had any good luck with it. Was thinking about a 13 horse motor
It's not perfect for paragliding. But if you build one that is dedicated for paragliding that will solve most the issues. Mine is more built for board sports. Anyway 13hp would work fine! Have fun be safe!
Hey Matt! What would a good gear ratio be to start with? All our variables are pretty similar so what ratio do you use- Also, did you weld that frame?? It looks immaculately man!
Freak man, I'm really sorry but I can't remember what gear ratio I used for this build. You can do the math if you know your engine rpm, the speed you want, and the ratio on the TAV - then you can solve for the best gear ratio. If I had to guess I'm probably using a 60 tooth sprocket and a 10 tooth on the TAV making it around 6:1. That will get you close but honestly I can't remember. I build these things in my sleep now and love them, if I were you I would get a sprocket that you can swap out the teeth on, like the one I used in this build, then you can play with the number of teeth if you don't like it after your done building it. There is also a wakeskating forum on the web the covers gear ratio I used when I first started building these. Hope this helps man! I'm excited you get to build one, they're a blast. Stay safe. Also yes I did weld that and have it powder coated, thank you!
Do you have to disconnect the chain to walk the line out? The one thing I dont understand. I'd think that you wouldn't want the engine turning over backwards, or does that not matter?
816kwilliams nah dude, doesn't matter. I've been doing this for years. You just pull the line and let it pull you back. The clutch helps a bit too, go look into the "idle ring"
@@TheeFatPanda so here is my materials list, let me know if you have any recommendations/changes based on your experience building them. 816kwilliams everything you said is going to work. The most important part for speed/torque will be the number of teeth on your sprocket compared to your TAV - this is your gear ratio. If you find that using your winch you don't have enough of either speed or torque, then just adjust the teeth on the sprocket (sometimes you can on TAV, but sprocket is better). Lmk if you have any other questions. Sounds like a great build!
I used 2" tubing on this machine. Use whatever steel you want though, it's a weight matter not a functionality one haha. Yeah and as for the hubs for your walls you can just go to a GoKart website and go to parts and then to hubs and find one with the same bore size (diameter). Here is a website that has good stuff, but use whatever you want bro, good luck www.gopowersports.com/go-kart-parts/axles-axle-parts/axle-hubs/
Yeah my other design allowed for that (the spool rotation change). This model is fixed to an under rotation, and the tav is fixed that way because of performance modifications that I choose to make. You can do either, it is preference, and you can make it do both if you want. (The reason I built those legs is to boost the line height bc I'm in an under rotation design).
In your network do you know anybody in Utah that has one? I’m looking to borrow one in three weeks for one day, January 1, 2019 for an event I created where we jump into a pond. A Polar Plunge. I want to wakeboard across it instead of just jumping into the water. Thanks.
TheeFatPanda - Nice! Thanks for responding. You might be able to make this year’s event dope! I think 16-18 mph. Just fast enough to carve. I’m a descent experienced rider. I just want to shred for a couple hundred feet. Check out my Instagram @chaseflyboy or Facebook page Jeff Chase to get an idea of what I’m doing. I started this thing I nick named The Pond Town Polar Plunge. We do it each New Year’s Day. I’m making shirts and posting flyers for the first time this year. The last three years was just word of mouth. I want to make it big this year. I’m expecting over 60 people jumping in and maybe 200 people showing up to watch.
Oh, and I forgot to mention I’m 155 lbs and maybe one other rider would use it that’s 180 lbs. I would pay to rent it and drive anywhere in Utah to pick it up. Unless the owner of the winch wanted to join us. That would be cool.
@@chaseflyboy No need, let's use mine I'm up the street. I messaged you on Facebook if you can respond to me there. (I would love a shirt though if you have extra!)

Hello, I would like to carry out the project and I have some doubts about some pieces, thanks.

Do you think 13 hp with a torque converter is too much?
@@ryanomalley8238 depends more on engine RPM. 13hp probably has less rpms than an 8hp. I have seen 13hp but have never seen a good reason for it.
