Ed Hubbs, you are an airbrushing genius. I'm starting to airbrush and your lessons have helped me alot, your kustom paints also look very nice however i want to get more comfortable with Createx water based paint and get familiar with airbrushing. Thanks so much for the great videos and tutorials.
My son is really into air brushing and I'll be sure to show him this, looks GREAT! I'm considering having him paint a guitar body for me and this is a great idea. Thanx for sharing it!
I went to your website to see what airbrush, paint guns, and paints you recommend, but I never found where all that information is at. I'm just beginning custom airbrushing. your work and technics are AMAZING!
I would recommend the House Of Kolor system. All plastics are different are you talking about raw plastic or painted plastic? HOK makes a product called Adherto that is designed to go on plastic and it works great.
Holy smokes! Man, I've been messing around with some different techniques, I'm pretty new in the game. I had no freagn idea you could dry out droplets like that to create the real thing!! Incredible!
I can watch these vids 100 times a day & never be able to do the things you do!!! Dude, you have admireable skill! SERIOUSLY AMAZING!!!! I have always admired & appreciated skills I dont have & I am NO artist, but you are very talented! Thank you for sharing your talent!!!!!! I
On painted plastic it has already had a adhesion promoter on it so you can sand it and seal it and base it.BUT if it is raw plastic like a bumper that you get from a dealer for a new car then you use the adherto on it.
Thanks for posting these videos I appreciate that you don't keep your talents to yourself and open up about the how to's of airbrushing and that's what I call a role model. Thank you Ed
Thanks Eclipse55,I will keep it in mind.Originally for this project I had intended to mask each droplet individually, but I might also spin the whole car on "the rack" at my shop....tilting it so that each panel is perpendicular to the floor...but filming a new tv show (airs in june on the travel channel) has monopolized the lion share of my time. This job has been on the back burner while I've been painting a series of monster trucks and semi-haulers for an off road performance company.
Superb effects. Thanks for taking the time to show how it's done with such clear instruction too. Great skills. I'm assuming this droplet effect is only really effective on flat panels that can be led down horizontally due to water run off? For example have you tried the same effect on a helmet or a similar shaped object?
Hey Ed I did a test panel some time ago and the droplets I achieved by launching water into the air from a hose and nozzle resulting in very much more rounded droplets of different sizes. It is a fantastic effect and one well worth doing for highlight graphics.
your videos are really great thanks a lot. i haven't actually started airbrushing yet, i am trying to find a descent gun for a beginner that isn't too expensive.
another awesome video ed.... ive done this technique dozens and dozens of times and found it very nice to use on vinyl lettering and graphics too. for those graphitti artists...it works just as well using spray cans, but you must clear coat it after the water has evaporated. thanks for keeping us inspired mate! shedz
I didn't know you were a professional! If you have the means to spin the whole car problem solved... and painting monster trucks... wow...it must be great! (literally ;) ) I'm eager to know more about your projects so... you got a new sub from Spain. Nice to meet you!!!!
ed thx for all these videos what u post on youtube its realy nice that u share alot of tricks and "how to make" advices...after looking ur videos i get feeling i can make it the same but nobody cant do it in a sec it takes alot of pratice...for inspiration i take alot of urs motivs like water drops, flames and metal tears for my suzuki hayabusa bike i do it by my own and its looks realy cool...thx again for sharing
I was wondering about the little hoods you have in you're shop. Will 3d paintable come out with mini hoods like that for a shop or what not? And if not make em do it. You're the man!
Love your videos Ed, and just wanna say thanks for showing us how to do diff things. If I had the cash I would attend one of your classes. I tried lightning bolts and they plain sucked so I put the airbrush away, but Im getting it back out and trying again with the water and real flames. Brush is an Iwata I bought last summer. Great work and thanks again..
@edhubbs Wow, its great to see someone take so much time to answer peoples questions. Video posted Forever ago, and yet your still checking back to answer ppls questions. Thank you.
Ed I have done a few bike tanks and fenders like this. I switched from the spray bottle to using a different style hair brushes and dippin n flickin. Also a tooth brush to make smaller droplets. Another cool effect is using a garden sprayer and set it as restrictive as you can so only a mist comes out. Like spraying a car panel start the spray outside of the work surface and don't stop until you are past it.
Hi Mr.Hubbs, thanks for these vids.....I haven't picked up spraygun in years, but I think I'd like to do it as a hobby again, and your videos are very helpful. Thanks again. Doug F.
Came across your vids and you had me sitting here alot longer than expected, had to watch most of them. Skills and class = american badass , thanks for sharin your knowledge
Great video , best I've seen in explaining this. Question, how would a person do this on a verticle surface? I want to do this to the rocker panels on my truck. Kind of hard to flip the truck on its side lol
I was (may still...) planing on painting some fenders and a hood like this, Keep that freshly rained on look year 'round! Im in eugene also, I'd like to come by and check out your shop, and maybe take pictures of some of the neat stuff you have goin on.
yes, no doubt. budget has been depleted by car parts. besides, I am a beginner at painting. entry level easiness is what I'm about right now. and if it wasn't for cheap spray guns, I would have never gottin into it at all. Looking forward to new vids. don't listen to those haters, you're cool as hell.
what pressure are you running your airbrush at and do you keep it the same or close to for other styles? thanks for all the free vids. much better than what you can buy and you are giving away your secrets thank you thank you thank you
You can make them using masking techniques. If you want let's say one hundred droplets it's gonna take you too long. But if you just want a bunch of them you can get some perfect looking drops in any surface no matter the angle. Anyways, for horizontal surfaces, the technique Ed is showing here is great, easy, and the result is just awesome. If you are interested in learning the drop masking technique I've got a video on that. I hope it's helpful.
Great stuff man, as a beginner artist these videos really inspire me. Its great to see how many different approachs and uses out there for art. Airbrushing looks really great, and that water drop effect is amazing. If I had a car, thats the effect I would go for! Thanks for the videos man, Nice stuff!
Ed you're a inspiration for me and my work! My Zelda NES is my second airbrush work and i'm verry proud of it. Maybe you can give me tipps, what i can do better. thanks a lot and many greetings Domi
that is awesome. I have wanted to paint my guitar in a water droplet scheme for a while now and was going to have somebody airbrush all the droplets but this is sweet knowing how easy it is.Question is do I have to rough up the clear coat on the guitar first or will it sit on the clear
hey, ive just stumpeled over ur videos, ive watched every single one of them now. You inspired me, so now im going to get a new hobby, my family is already into musclecars and stuff so it'll be kinda cool if i get good at it ^^. my dad was an painter b4, so i got myself a private instructor 2. couldn't be better.. TY
Fantastic video. Great audio and pro camera work. And the presentation (and skill!) was excellent!! glad I found this! Nice to watch a custom paint video that's not full of F-Bombs.
Fantastic paint job and tutorial! You must take great satisfaction from your art after every piece! I cant wait to start playing around in the garage and trying this for myself, i'll check out ur website too for recommended equipment etc ! Thanks for posting, cheers from down under :)
omg, many wants carpainting to look like that, its awesome. go buy a nice car and paint it like that with cool drawings, and btw, Edhubbs , you are great! mus have taken you a long time.. i did focus on the paint, not the breath. go on with your skills, make more cars pretty like that, they deserve your work!
That is so simple and yet just amazing.....Any ideas as to how i could achieve this effect on canvas?? the only real thing i could think of was to laquer over what ever i wanted to acheive this effect on so the water wouldn't damage the canvas itself but i don't know........
here's a tip if you want to avoid those big droplets.. don't point your water nozzle down at the work piece, shoot it horizontal across the piece, let the water fly out and land, hold a cloth under the nozzel if you're moving over the work.
Are you using a mid coat clear after spraying the silver.I've tried to add a color to another color an they ended up blending.. love your vids. I also admire your willingness to answer questions. I believe you are very confidant in your job
Hey Ed, once again a great vid. How would you do a chopper gas tank? Would you have to do one side at a time? If so, would you mask the sides you've already done? Just asking because I want to do a gas tank and I'm afraid I'll screw it up... lol
No worries man, i took it with a grain of salt. Its hard to tell people responses without hearing a tone ya know? lol But! i ordered me some of that kustoms shop clear and im dieing to see if ill like it. i hope it do. i used your link to go to the page to order. thank ya sir!
Hi Ed, im a great admirer of your work, (your videos actually pushed me to pick up an airbrush.), i love this video, but could you tell me the best way to get the effect of realistic looking red droplets (blood droplet effect) on a white base? Many Thanks
WONDERFULL !!!!!!!! Can I make this with the spray cans you have in your website? Can any of your techniques be made with spray cans too ?????? Hope to get your answer soon. CONGRATULATIONS.
I'm doing this effect on a 72 Pinto station wagon. Don't ask! Your videos are great and have helped me a lot.
Been airbrushing 23 years and still haven't tried this effect. Now you've got me wanting to give it a shot. Thanks for the vid!
Ed, this is the most freaking awesome thing I've ever seen done with paint.
That ended up AMAZING! The black around the edges definatly made a really good effect.
Very nice... Awesome job... I never knew how to air brush or what it consisted of. Thanks for posting!
Wow nice job, these are the kind of videos people ned to see, to understand the mindset of good painters, 5 star

Cool technique. I've seen it somewhere before but I can't remember where.
My son is really into air brushing and I'll be sure to show him this, looks GREAT! I'm considering having him paint a guitar body for me and this is a great idea. Thanx for sharing it!

Thought I would never buy a how to video, but you have way to much to offer.. Thanks for all the info in every clip Ed.
I would recommend the House Of Kolor system. All plastics are different are you talking about raw plastic or painted plastic? HOK makes a product called Adherto that is designed to go on plastic and it works great.
Beautiful colour combination for a project like this Mr. Hubbs
me and a mate just tryed this on his rc car using spray cans and dam it worked so well you are a legend among artists
cool panel Ed! thanks for taking the time to help us out...
Holy smokes! Man, I've been messing around with some different techniques, I'm pretty new in the game. I had no freagn idea you could dry out droplets like that to create the real thing!! Incredible!
I've just bought my first ever airbrush and will try out your techniques... once i'm a bit better at using it. Top video mate and true talent!!!

I'm doing this exact same thing on a PC case my dad bought. You're videos are the only reason I'm trying this; you make it look so cool ^^.

one of the best tutorials i've seen in ages. thanks brotha
Very awesome work, these methods and techniques can be applied to digital art too.
Hey Ed I did a test panel some time ago and the droplets I achieved by launching water into the air from a hose and nozzle resulting in very much more rounded droplets of different sizes. It is a fantastic effect and one well worth doing for highlight graphics.
This has been one of my favorite videos to watch! I'm constantly amazed by your talent Ed:)
your videos are really great thanks a lot.
i haven't actually started airbrushing yet, i am trying to find a descent gun for a beginner that isn't too expensive.
i'm addicted to watching your videos, hopefully i can do this later in life
Cheers Ed. I have subscribed. Only got my kit the other day but can't put it down. This video has inspired me to give this effect a shot.
As always Ed this lesson is excellent , they always inspire me to do more and try combos .
another awesome video ed....

@edhubbs Wow, its great to see someone take so much time to answer peoples questions. Video posted Forever ago, and yet your still checking back to answer ppls questions. Thank you.
Learned quite a bit from watching your clips Mr. Hubbs, The techniques really are helpful :)
Thank you :)
by far the droplet has been the coolest effect...looks awesome on jet skis..
Ed I have done a few bike tanks and fenders like this. I switched from the spray bottle to using a different style hair brushes and dippin n flickin. Also a tooth brush to make smaller droplets. Different techniques for different projects
Yes I use Wicked once in a while. There is a video called Wicked Flags that I use Wicked colors in.
I would do a test panel and try different colors until you came up with the color combination that you like the best.
Hi Mr.Hubbs, thanks for these vids.....I haven't picked up spraygun in years, but I think I'd like to do it as a hobby again, and your videos are very helpful. Thanks again. Doug F.

I make sure that every thing is sanded properly before applying any color.
Beautiful job - that would be a cool effect on a surfboard
I was (may still...) planing on painting some fenders and a hood like this, Keep that freshly rained on look year 'round!

Suparb, thoroughly enjoyed watching that. How do avoid the water from lifting your tape?
Ed you're a inspiration for me and my work! My Zelda NES is my second airbrush work and i'm verry proud of it. Maybe you can give me tipps, what i can do better.
thanks a lot and many greetings Domi
thats my kind of schooling Ed. thanks for sharing your talent
Awesome effects Ed!
That looks really nice! Any tips on trying to get a mercury droplet effect? Should I use the same technique but with a silvery base?
I wasn't really impressed halfway through the video, but soon as you kept going and going i thought it was so wicked, I'm glad you like to keep going!
that is awesome. I have wanted to paint my guitar in a water droplet scheme for a while now and was going to have somebody airbrush all the droplets but this is sweet knowing how easy it is.Question is do I have to rough up the clear coat on the guitar first or will it sit on the clear
WOW!!!...can't wait to see more of your work...WOW.
Glad you enjoyed.

Wow man, that's a really clever effect, I'd never have thought of that!
You make everything look so easy!
Amazing. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing your skill

Great communicator . Nice work A1A.
@edhubbs I did a round blender by rolling it and doing sections at a time.
Ed hubbs just wanted to say, your the man
This is some wizard level art technique. Really amazing.
Thank You
That is so simple and yet just amazing.....Any ideas as to how i could achieve this effect on canvas?? the only real thing i could think of was to laquer over what ever i wanted to acheive this effect on so the water wouldn't damage the canvas itself but i don't know........

Sorry my poor english .I'm from Brazil.
I am loving your videos;-) they are helping me so much in my quest to become a better spray and airbursh artist!
AH! using water to create water drop effect! unexpected and very realistic
Great vid Ed

Yes it is paint and it will get where there are no drops but it is very minor.
i was gunna ask the same thing, and yet again, another great vid Ed.
No worries man, i took it with a grain of salt. Its hard to tell people responses without hearing a tone ya know? lol But! i ordered me some of that kustoms shop clear and im dieing to see if ill like it. i hope it do. i used your link to go to the page to order. thank ya sir!
You pretty much answered your own question. I would do it just like you said and yes low air pressure.
Hey Mr.Edhubbs....is it certain colors that makes that effect show up really nice.
Hi Ed,
im a great admirer of your work, (your videos actually pushed me to pick up an airbrush.), i love this video, but could you tell me the best way to get the effect of realistic looking red droplets (blood droplet effect) on a white base?
Many Thanks
this makes me want to blow the dust of my airbrush and get to painting ..awesome job!
Glad you enjoy.
Man!! This is Amazing... Is it possible to do this with the base coat the same color as the drops ? Using semi metallic
WONDERFULL !!!!!!!! Can I make this with the spray cans you have in your website? Can any of your techniques be made with spray cans too ?????? Hope to get your answer soon. CONGRATULATIONS.
Why did you spray the first color with a touch up gun and then the white with an airbrush gun? Personal pref? AMAZING WORK!
