Both teams were really hitting. One team made the plays when it had to. I miss John Saunders. He was great at what he did. Thanks for posting this hard-hitting tough game between two storied football teams.
This game will always be the red river shootout. Not rivalry, not showdown. The long horn logo as the v and then the Oklahoma logo for the ou was so awesome
I am old enough to have talked to people who went to this game in Dallas from the very beginning. The story was that Texas chose the North end of the Cotton Bowl because the stadium orientation is SE to NW and the sun wouldn't be in their fans eyes in the late afternoon.
If we had had a decent fg kicker Stoops, in all likelihood, would have tried to go up by seven and the superman play would not have ever happened. Of coarse if we had had a decent fg kicker we would have already been up by 10, so there's that.
I remember this game a lot thought Mack Brown wasn't right for Texas he took 5 straight losses to Oklahoma if it wasn't for Vince young signing with Texas Mack Brown would have gotten fired
You left out "a few years earlier than he actually was." His teams had a thing for not just getting blown out, but making their fans complete vacate thr cotton bowl before the 4th even starts.
I remember this game and going in i thought Texas would win this game because Chris Simms was coming back and Nate Hybil was unproven boy was I wrong Roy Williams proved that he was one of the best defensive players in college football and Texas Roy Williams couldn’t get off the blocks just like Tennessee vs Florida when Tennessee had Peyton Manning Tennessee had all the pressure and Florida had none despite them being the higher ranked team Manning being the blue blood had all the pressure.
Okie played so poorly they were lucky to win this game. Hybil or Hypel or Heupel or whatever their chickenshit quarterback was named looked lost on that field. Their only saving grace was Mack's idiotic love affair with limo Simms. Applewhite would have won that game.
This game, it felt like the rivalry was truly 'back', and its been that way ever since .
I was there in the endzone and thought i was having a heart attack when Lehman scored on the Superman play. It was soo loud !

Roy "Superman" Williams @ 3:04:00. One of my all time favorite plays, evarrr.
The Real Roy Williams ☝️
OU defining moment... Roy is immortal because of that play.
Mack Brown and Bob Stoops… will never be the same having them face off 15 times.

Lehman (a defensive guy) outscored the entire Texas team. Wow!

Weird to say, but those were simpler times.
Except for 9/11 being a month earlier. I'm not so sure I agree.
I remember that longhorn saying they ain't going to lay 63 on them he was right we only needed 14.
We only needed 4 🥲
Roy Williams as Denzel would say “My Man”…..

@@johnl5350 I remember that too since Stoops got to Oklahoma there was just a five year period where you think Texas put their dominance back in.
RIP John Saunders

What's old is new again? Come on Arch, Chrissy saved a seat for you.
Man OU's kicking game sucked in this game.
Shout out to the fake Adrian Peterson from GA Southern getting recognition during the halftime coverage 😂

Luck? Sure buddy 👍
What's your Texcuse for 00' '02 '03 and '04? So you got smoked in 2000 and 2003, choked in 02 and got shut out in 2004.
Oh, and it was White that beat you here. Just practicing for when he dropped 65 on you two years later.
I'm sure there's a Texcuse for 2023 as well....😅
