I've watched some RUclips videos here and there, but none specifically that stood out. I think the best way to learn photography is by actually doing it. In terms of books, I haven't ready any books because to be honest I don't like to read - I'm more of a visual learner.
I think there are a lot of good "Creator/Gaming" laptops these days. I currently use the Razer Blade 15 which has been great! But I also know the Gigabyte Aero, HP Envy, Dell XPS etc to be quite good too. I recommend one with a good graphics card like the NVIDIA RTX 2080/2070s
Stumbled across your video and it's absolutely inspiring!! I also recently quit my architecture job of 7.5 years (10 years if you include uni...) and looking for a fresh start. Your passion for photography is inspiring and there is definitely a lot to learn from you. Thank you for sharing your experience and also advice!! 😀
I'm actually from Sydney and studied at UTS. Worked in a practice in Chippendale and also have taught at UTS for 5 years as well. Haven't yet figured it out but photography has always been a passion of mine, along with other things, so will spend this new found freedom to experiment and think about my options.. I took a leap of faith 😅 and thanks for replying (wasn't expecting a response haha) !! 😊
Thank you for this bro, been learning from your tutorials and experiences. I’m also a guy from the technical field that would also love to transition fully to a freelance photogrpaher
You are a great inspiration Demas. Since I discovered your Instagram account, I was hooked with your content and love how genuine you are. Loving the podcast 5to9 too! keep it up! Congratulations on taking the leap and becoming a full-time photographer. I'd have a few questions. 1. Regarding image licensing? Do you post them on stock websites? If yes what website would you recommend? 2. Do you believe it is important as a freelancer in the photography world to have a RUclips channel? Thanks in advance! :)
Thanks so much mate! Appreciate it! In regards to your questions, I have yet to post my photos to stock websites yet but I will look into it very soon, I would probably look to upload to Adobe Stock or EyeEm, but I'm still not sure yet. And in regards to making a RUclips channel as a freelancer, I think it's not the most important thing, if you are able to gain clients without it then that's fine. I think for me, making a RUclips channel was a good way for me to show my personality a bit more and teach my followers techniques that I want to teach :)
Great Q&A. I’m an amateur photographer and full time Software Dev. Excited to try and make a small amount of money from photography. This really helped 👌
Your work is just awesome and even though I am just a very casual photographer, you have inspired me to push myself creatively. Your success is well deserved , glad you're so pumped to be doing this as your main gig.
I usually open files in Photoshop using Lightroom - and then when I save it automatically creates a new TIF file in Lightroom, and then I export from Lightroom. Check out my other tutorial videos to see the process
Aye mate great video. The hard part for me is the money. The amount and frequency is the hard part. Good on you Demas for doing it in a informative way :~)
Thank you Ian! Definitely the money bit is the hardest part, that's why it's taken me about 4 years to get to a level I am comfortable with in terms of income from photography
Thanks Yadi! Haha architecture is always overtime hey - it was like that for me too sometimes in the office I worked at, but I just tried to prioritise my photography a bit and tried to leave as early as I can from work :)
That's a very broad/subjective question. If you like someone's work then doesn't it make them a 'good' photographer? A 'good' photographer could also be one that is really good on the business side and good at gaining clients for the service the clients want. What do you think makes a good or bad photographer?
Hmmm overrated hey? Really hard question because Tokyo is a really really great city to visit (especially for holidays) and I really can't fault it in that sense!
Always RAW mate! I used to shoot JPEG only for a long time and realised that was a big mistake, and then I did bothe JPEG and RAW for a while and realised that took up too much memory, so now I just shoot RAW only.
It's not just that it's smaller file size, JPEGs are already compressed versions of RAWs - meaning that there is less information to work with when you edit photos. So if your photo is overexposed or underexposed there's less chance that it can be recovered when it's JPEG. You can also push the colours more of a RAW file. At the end of the day it will become a JPEG again when you post to Instagram but RAW files help make the editing process better.
Hey mate! I gave a pretty detailed response in this video already - I didn't get them to contact me, they contacted me because they saw that my work aligns with their brand. Focus on your own channels/creativity and then the brands will come knocking!
@@demasrusli i mean, are you tag them on your photo or use hashtag related to the brand or participant any ffa where the brand is a sponsor. Actually how they can find you?
I don't know how they found me though, they probably have a team looking for creators on social media to collaborate with - so I guess maybe my work stood out/I have enough followers that they want to contact me? I would only tag them if the content was relevant, don't tag them if the content doesn't align :)
@@demasrusli when you mentioned workshops and 1:1. I'm a freelance photographer & I also create content for local businesses. I just want that push where I can connect with bigger brands or people that share the same passion. Thanks for replying man!!
If you watched my first Q&A I explain how I learnt Photoshop: ruclips.net/video/SWKZET_nJrw/видео.html Basically it's because I had to learn it for university during Architecture School - we all had to teach ourselves. It definitely wasn't easy at the beginning but if you use it everyday it becomes easier :)
Great vid Demassive! Some pretty useful tips in there. Freeeelance life
