      These black drummers like me come from Christian churches like me? We are all talented... and yes African in blood... and yet when opportunity presents itself we make a pact with the devil for a music industry which is mainly satanic (Zionists, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, Scientology, Hasidim, Lubavitcher...)... in this case..., it is no longer a question of talent or musicality, But of polarization... of Western propaganda messages (woke, feminists, satanist) in clear leading people astray goods of the right path. This has worked since the dawn of time... wow god protect us .

I've seen both Ronald and Rudy live with Kenny, so something was up--hopefully just for this one show. • @DasTusk
    @DasTusk 4 месяца назад +5

    Unfortunately this is regular behavior for Bruner. He really has a piss poor reputation in MANY other cities for similar and/or worse behavior. It's astounding that a legendary musical force like Kenny Garrett puts up with such an emotional infant in his band. How absolutely disrespectful to Kenny, the rest of the band and everyone else in attendance to act this way during a live performance. Bruner's baggage is not worth the chops. Bruner obviously has "shock and awe" chops but he's about the least musical drummer I've ever heard. There's no subtlety in his playing, even when he's not cussing out Rudy the percussionist and "having a bad night".
    That's my opinion, I'm sure some will disagree, l'd simply challenge those that do disagree to seek out the following. Contemporarily I've seen Kenny's band doing basically this same material with a great drummer named McClenty Hunter and bassist Corcoran Holt who bring equal chops, but blow Bruner away with musicality, conversation, subtleties, and RESPECT. The energy those guys bring is it! And that's because it's all laid down on a foundation of respect where the music comes first. For fuck sake, go back and watch the Kenny Garrett Quartet live at Umbria with Kenny Kirkland, Jeff "Tain" Watts and Nat Reeves, a performance that literally gives me goosebumps and then fast forward to this crap. The idea that this behavior would just be excused because this guy has chops is laughable! Especially after watching the aforementioned Umbria concert for contrast. What a disgrace. Imagine how much ego it takes to completely ruin a Kenny Garrett performance. Amazing! Again, shocking that Kenny puts up with all the baggage Bruner brings to the stage and band. Watching Kenny Garrett playing keys in the background trying to ignore Bruner while he screams fuck and then throws a tantrum knocking over drums just hurts my soul to watch.. I also feel bad for everyone else in that band. Imagine traveling overseas and having to get in a bus or a plane or train with this special guy, no thanks!!! WOOF!!!!!!!!!
    Your character is your character regardless of where you come from. Would Art Blakey have ever done this when he was Bruner's age playing as a side man with Dizzy Gillespie or Horace Silver? The way he treats Rudy Bird, the percussionist initially helping him fix the cymbal stand, in this clip is wild. The display Bruner puts on in the video is just how he acts on stage. Believe me, I have personal experience dealing with this idiot at a club when he was in my hometown for a festival a few years ago. He's a complete loose cannon and a total asshole for no reason upon meeting him for the first time. He managed to offend just about every artist in my hometown, including me. Stories still circulate to this day from just about everyone I know. Again, imagine being on the road with this energy having to be around this 24/7. This isn't an isolated incident. I won't be surprised when we come to the day that someone puts him in his place and either beats his ass or worse. I don't hope for that but he's begging for it. Dude needs serious help and I hope he gets it the civilized way. He’s literally so corny

    I saw Kenny Garrett at the Blue Note in New York in 2019, and Ronald Bruner Jr. got insanely mad at the pianist Vernell Brown Jr. (RIP) during the gig. He ended up throwing his sticks at the wall and storming off the stage yelling while heading upstairs to the green room. We talked to Vernell for a bit after the gig and he said something along the lines of “I’ve been a professional pianist for 30+ years, I don’t need this shit!” but then was very pleasant and gracious to us.

    Mr. Brunner is a remarkable musician. Very often musicians have issues that can make them incredible players but also challenging to live and work with (Buddy Rich?). Some bandleaders put up with it and let them be themselves as long as they don't do too much damage. I suspect that Kenny Garrett does just that... profiting, at his own risk, of course.
    As someone said, this way of being will undoubtedly catch up with Ronald if he doesn't get a handle on it. It's a level of volatile immaturity. I'm inclined to believe there's some level of childhood trauma involved... as with most of us.
    Generally, I don't enjoy listening to him because, even though he's a phenomenal technician, I can always tell that he's not sensitively connected to the music. I wish him the best.

    This is the perfect Ronald Bruner , rude and disrespectful , He got rude several times with his fans , with other artists . An artist must be a good human being in the first place , not a childish irresponsible man . After this gig ended , in Blue note , he broke other club stuff, and the director , or artistic director of Blue note , informed him that he would never put his feet again in the club , so he started begging for pardon on his knees . My theory is that there is a lot of undiagnosed ADHD in the drumming community. ADHD is known for Emotional Dysregulation and RSD. If it’s true that Ron has substance abuse issues too, this is also explained by ADHD because people with ADHD are more predisposed to developing substance abuse. The intense hyperfocus that is needed to reach his level on the drums is also explained by ADHD. There is also a massive drive for people with ADHD to overachieve, which is why they often excel in certain areas, because they are trying to prove their worth.
    The more I understand ADHD the more compassion I have for stuff like this because he simply may not be able to help it. Ron possibly needs help, not criticism.

    So this is what the world is come to. We are now reacting and diagnosing musicians on random gigs. Lol. We don’t know nothing about what’s going on in the background. What may have happened before the show. Let’s knock it off. Yes, if he has any issues with the guy that came on his stage to help there were more professional ways to handle this but y’all talking about him needing prayer and being emotionally unstable. And once one person says something, everyone just hops on the bandwagon. This is one of the greatest black drummers of our generation! He’s one of them. Many of the people that you hold to be the greatest in their field or one of the greatest in their field have had temper tantrums… the differences we haven’t been able to record it as much. Prince, Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Aretha Franklin, so so for all have stories of them not being the nicest people from time to time. The difference is it wasn’t documented as easily. No means putting him on their level, just using them as an example to make a point. Knock it off. If he never plays another gig with another band because he threw a temper tantrum, I will gladly play to see him and his brother Thundercat whenever they get together. This guy is a musical child prodigy. And I don’t have to like his attitude to close my eyes and listen to him play. Most of us will be blessed just to try out for some of the gigs he’s lost…. I’ll take it one step further. Most of us wouldn’t even be confident enough in our gifts to try out for the gigs that he’s lost. I’ll take it further, most of us would freeze up on the same stage that he’s on in this video. Iol! Also, the guy commenting on his video telling a story about Ronald Bruner having a Hollywood mentality and coming into a jam session and leaving after he played is so silly…. Maybe he has a Hollywood mentality because he’s from California! lol. A person coming to a jam session and leaving means nothing. He might’ve had something to do afterwards. It’s a jam session. But to say this video is giving you flashbacks like he was traumatized by Ronald Bruner showing up to a jam session, playing and leaving is crazy!!!!!!! we got to do better people

    With the disclaimer of not knowing the song, the structure or the gig, it seemed like to me when he was doing that big snare fill and then stopping on the one, he was trying to signal something to the band... like, stop here, break here, next part here, something like that and nobody else was doing the change. Maybe he messed it up, maybe they messed it up, maybe both? But it sure seemed like he was done with those two chords and that groove and was like, come on already. Then the ride falls over and just added insult to injury. From there he was obviously all "fuck this". He started subdividing the beat, purposely throwing in different things that had nothing to do with what anyone else was playing. Trying anything to fuck with it.
    That's the vibe I felt from it anyway. Like the soloist was being too greedy and full of himself by being like "naw, 64 bars ain't enough, I'ma keep goin until -I'm- done." And shit like that always has some precedent to it with some arguments along the way. "Why you always play so long? You get a solo in every song, nobody needs 15 minutes of your shit over the same two fuckin chords. Get over yourself." Followed by, "Fuck you, I'll do what I want."
    "Fuck me? Naw bro, fuck you and your bullshit."
    Been there. But I'm a bass player, so I'll just play my two fuckin notes and keep my mouth shut.
