    My high school required you to take a foreign language (either 3 years of one, or 4 years divided among 2 languages) but I find it ridiculous that people are expected to plan out the rest of their lives at such a young age, and if you mess up even in the slightest it could derail your entire future... which sounds super dumb to me

    • @sundermc

      That my friend is agreeable, you cant just force kids into getting ready for their life immediately when they get in high school.

    • @cowsshadow

      Schools: Teach you about how the teenage brain isn't fully developed and that they cannot plan for the future as well as adults.
      Also schools: Yes you should know how to plan your entire future by now. Tough luck if you don't.

      Sadly schools are more concerned about sending kids to college than actually preparing them for life and how to actually plan out a proper future.
      I got lucky and my school required 2 years of foreign language but unlike the rest of the district we had a second option is option Mandarin Chinese. And our teacher was even better because She continually tried to work with the college administration for the UC system to get her class and curriculum to be accepted as a college level foreign language.

    • @cowsshadow
      @cowsshadow 2 года назад +22

      @@clonescope2433 I agree. And even then, it seems like schools throw information on the kids until they eventually know how to "learn for college". You can't build habits for college if no one shows you. Schools don't show you basic financial skills unless you specifically take a course for them. Taking out loans and paying taxes should be taught in at least one of the main required classes, but it's not.
      A lot of teachers also don't really seem very interested in helping kids succeed, but a few do; and it sounds like you got a great teacher like that. You rarely see this kind of effort put in for the benefit of the students.

Me being a freshman I already have to worry about planning my life and colleges I want to get into, and there are college scouts at a lot of my hockey games (I play AAA) which stresses me out to an immeasurable degree. Some schools don't look at freshman year grades! It's also important to show consistent growth. I had horrific grades freshman year (I'm talking D's here) but I improved to a solid A student through hard work and dedication. Don't sweat it if you bomb a class, it's all about how you bounce back. Good Luck and don't underestimate extracurriculars.

    God I remember students who did everything this guy just recommended and never got even a reply for Ivy Leagues. Then there is my friend group who put almost no effort into high school, but instead did internships and other eye catching things and we all go to Perdue 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ it’s not just about how hard you work to lay the foundation, it’s about how you present yourself in the college interviews. If you walk in all cocky and full of yourself like the majority of try hards then you probably won’t get accepted. If you talk to them about what makes you special and don’t just focus on how you got an A+ and a 4.0 your freshman year and give the interviewer respect and show humility, then you have a higher chance of acceptance than the majority of those annoying try hards you hated in high school

      @@Emilia3745 I agree, if you really want to be a vet I would recommend trying to find internships and focus on that. Don’t let your grades drop but don’t worry about doing every honors class out there, that’s for college admissions when it comes to the 1% of the hardest universities. If you get a solid 3.0 or above and have a lot of internships or anything that relates to being a vet and use that in your admissions then you have the advantage over other students because the college will see determination and something that makes you stand out from all the other students that act like a heard of sheep when it comes to doing all the honors classes and all the additional AP classes. This is something thats been quite frankly over used and to the majority of college’s this stuff doesn’t matter to them. What matters to them now is seeing where you wanna go in life and what you’ve done to make that a reality and what you’re going to continue to do.

(It's terrible doing two different languages at the same time though, especially when the verb conjugations are super similar but slightly different between the two languages). I still don't do any extracurriculars which is probably hurting my chances but I literally have no time because I'm doing five AP classes this year (APUSH, Calc BC, Physics 1, Research, and Lang) and they are really stressful lol. To make it even better, I had to also pick two electives so those are Latin 3 and Chamber Orchestra... which aren't easy either. I'm also in NHS, which I hope makes up for my lack of extracurriculars... and I volunteer at the library every Tuesday for NHS hours. Oh, and I started a book club at school. so yeah... this year is a big yikes and senior year is going to seem like such a breeze after this one (hopefully, even though I'm planning to take 5 AP classes next year too life is so great)

      I will say it’s good to do a lot of thing in 9th grade to figure out what you like, but you should definitely go quality over quantity in your later years as you narrow down your interests.

    Hi, I am deciding what type of high school fits the best for me: the scientific or the linguistic track...
    Both of them are extremely challenging (maybe the scientific track more) and I like both of them. On one hand, the linguistic track will give me the opportunity of learning 4 languages like a mother-tongue, on the other, the scientific track will stimulate me on learning more deeply math and science.
    Learning languages it is "easy" for me, even if I've never studied it: when easy thing happen to me, the tendency is of not taking the advantage of it ( if French it is easy, my impulse is of not studying it enough)
    Could you please help me on this decision? maybe making a video, talking about how to choose the best high school for you?!

    • @catmeowmeow1662
      @catmeowmeow1662 2 года назад

      if you are forced to learn languages through school it'll be less fun, I'd say the scientific track
