I live in the U.S. - Texas. I’ve been watching your videos all afternoon and evening! I am a new subscriber now! I also have ordered four of your books and already have 3 of the books you recommended as some of your favorites from your library. I have worked for Husqvarna Viking and Janome in sales and as a store instructor. I have two overlocks (one also converts to Coverstitch), a Janome Cover Pro 1000CPX a small 60 stitch Janome sewing machine, a 60 year old Pfaff, and a Viking sewing/embroidery machine. I love them all. I’ve retired from working and am getting back into sewing for the fun of it and am so glad I found your RUclips channel! Thank you for sharing you skills and talents!!!
Hello, I just found you site. Wow. Your videos are very detailed but your explanations are very clear. Why do other videos make things sound so complicated. I'm in the process of making a simple T-Shirt. But this video has made me much more confident in sewing with my stretch knits and make some beautiful blouses. Just like your video. Well, it might take me a little bit of time to get them just like yours. Maybe a couple of years !!!! What I like about your videos, is that you have a great sense of humour as you go. Thank you for that. I get very tense sometimes when I'm learning to sew. Thanks Again!
It is so helpful with you telling us about these tips without going into an half hour explanation. You kept the tip explanation short quick and precise. Thankyou very much for that xx
I spent most of the pandemic year collecting knit fabrics, and these tips are going to be very handy now that it's cooling off and time to make sweaters and warmer tops!
What great tips you have provided. I would use pleats in a sleeve cap, but not a few gathers. It might look as if I couldn't sew an inserted sleeve correctly. If someone doesn't have a rubber mallet, a regular hammer can be used. Just need to cover the metal with some soft fabric. Also I have found if thick fabric seam allowance doesnt want to lay flat, increase the seam allowance a little more, or don't trim it as much. I truly love learning from you, you explain so well.
Great video! My tip for the neck band's vertical seam: I am pressing it open, to have less bulk. If I am using a serger to sew the neckband together, inside the folding of the band I clip the fabric up to the seam, being careful not to clip the looper stitch, and I fold the seam allowance right and left. I hope I was not too confusing. Your tip with the rubber hammer, I have never thought about, I have to give it a try :) Greetings from Chicago
Good info there for sewing knits! I have been getting back into sewing with knits as they are quick to make and you can be so creative also. I first learnt how to make t'shirts etc back in the 1980's era when my two boys were toddlers and I was always at the sewing machine making lots of track pants and sweater tops for them. I also made some for me and other friends too and really enjoyed making different colours and styles also. Now am slowly getting back into collecting my fabric as I have lots to make. Watching how to get that neckline just right is one of my issues but now realize it has to be a narrow hem. My husband bought a few good t'shirts some months ago and must admit when I have ironed them have studied how those necklines are put together to get it looking so professional. Thank you so much showing how its done and when I am about to start my projects, shall be referring back to all your videos covering these stages. Do love the long sleeve knit shirt you made, just my style and the twist top too.
I am in the process of making t-shirts as summer is on its way (fingers crossed) here in Australia and my old ready to wear t-shirts are nearly thread bare I have worn them so much. I love the Burda Style shirt you made so much so that I ended up buying the pattern. The fabric that you made it from is gorgeous too, and the pussy-bow shirt is gorgeous, you should really consider selling the pattern as it would make it a nice "in between seasons" top. One t-shirt pattern that you would like is the 'Galaxy' top by 'Paper, Scissors, Cloth' it is a free pattern too and has lovely gathered sleeves. Happy sewing
Thank you for sharing your tricks and tips - really helpful! I also love your Burda twist top so I think I'm going to add that to my sewing list. Plus the pleat detail on the T-shirt with facings is really a lovely addition. Thank you very much :)
You have amazing skills which you graciously share. I’m new to knits, so I’m not quite ready for a knit top. I followed your guide on hemming knits which went well. I look forward to trying my hand at a top. You’re videos are so well done. Someone does a marvelous job of editing. Thank you for sharing! 🥰
This video is great. I have yet to learn to sew with knits... that's next on my sewing to do list. The twist front top is my personal favorite. Thanks for this overview and tips.!
Thanks so much for this video. I was having trouble with my lower scoop necks on my knit dresses. I should have used clear elastic. Thanks for the tips! 👗🧵🪡🥰
I really enjoyed this presentation. I have had a Quik sew twist top pattern for over ten years now and I have inspired me to drag it out and give it another go. :)
@@Thelaststitch It really is full of good stuff. And quite encouraging. Thank you! I've kind of lost my sewing "mojo" this year, but am working my way back to it and will start again with knits. Love sewing with knits (mostly easy patterns so far).
Every year I set a new sewing goal for myself. One year it was jeans last year it was coats this year it is knits. I have had many knit failures especially with the neckline. I really appreciate this video. The dress you made is beautiful. I love those kind of details. Kind of understated but pretty spectacular.
Yes the neckline is probably the single most tricky thing when it comes to sewing knit tops, we have all struggled with that, which is why I'm so keen to share how to really make it look professional. So happy to hear you found my tips useful!
Such great tops you sewed! I need to try to sew some knit tops. I love the bow blouse - where does one get the pattern for that? I went to your website but couldn't find it there. Beautiful job!
I love the knit top you are wearing, the navy with circles, Is it your pattern? I also love your fabric prints. Can you direct me to that pattern? I love to sew knits & I have just discovered your site 😉.
A way to reduce bulk in a stretch neckband is to join it on the bias, then the seam allowance don’t sit on top of each other after the band is folded. Hope you can visualise what I mean? I bought that burda twist dress/top in a pdf sale. I’m definitely gonna make it as a top! 👋👍
Can you suggest how to add stabilizer to thiner knits with a knot in front. I purchased a shirt and the knot tightens up with wear and you can't see the detail. The knot tightening does not affect wear...it would just look better with more volume in the knot around bellybutton/waist. I have no extra fabric to make a facing. Thanks
I like the twist top very much. And just for info ‘pussy’ is pronounced as ‘poosy’ not pus-ey. The latter is the nasty stuff you get in wounds. I’d like to see how to sew the twist top.
Or listen to the song Pussycat by Tom Jones. Also winded is not pronounced wiineded but win-did . But I must like many Scandinavians your English is excellent overall.

I like the idea of having a basic pattern then adding details to make easy garment different.
I am so glad to find your videos. Thank you for the tips.

I have sewn a lot for a long time, but I found this video full of excellent information. I learned a lot!
I LOVE the Burda Top. I have made a couple, but want to make more. Yes, you have to really think!!! Thank you!!!!
I really like the pleated sleeves and the self-fabric neckband. It really steps up the garment.
Wow, a must to watch if you sew with knits. The neckband tips alone is priceless. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words about my video!
WOULD LIKE TO BUY BOTH PATTERNS. Also love the fabric as well.
I spent most of the pandemic year collecting knit fabrics, and these tips are going to be very handy now that it's cooling off and time to make sweaters and warmer tops!
That's awesome to hear, knits are so cosy to wear!

Such pretty fabric, especially the one you are wearing. You are an amazing seamstress.

I like the idea of shifting the neckband seam. It hate the bulk of facings, so I sew the seam off center so the seams aren’t as bulky.
Thanks for your excellent tips. I especially loved the point about using a narrower neckband or self-fabric!

I love that bow blouse! Also, your tips have definitely helped me have more professional-looking results in my own sewing. :)
Love your tips Johanna! 🤗 Thank you so much for sharing! 😊
a narrow zigzag or the lightning bolt stitch that many machines now have, is a great stitch to use for that front seam on your knotted top.....
Totally, these are so great for knits, almost like a straight stitch

Happy to hear you are venturing into knits, it's so fun but also a different, so good to do some research first!
Thanks so much for this video. I was having trouble with my lower scoop necks on my knit dresses. I should have used clear elastic. Thanks for the tips! 👗🧵🪡🥰
Love your bow top! So cute!
You have motivated me to improve my skills. Thankyou
I really enjoyed this presentation. I have had a Quik sew twist top pattern for over ten years now and I have inspired me to drag it out and give it another go. :)
Yay, you can do it, such a nice style to both sew and wear!
I'd love to see you sew this- as I saw the pattern and loved it.. Have you made a video? thank you so much!
Super helpful tips as always! Could you do a video on serger tips, please?
That's something I could do for sure!
I really enjoyed this! Recently started making knit tops - must try the clear elastic idea! 😍
The clear elastic is a game changer in my humble opinion 😊
Love the twist knot top!
Excellent video, thank you! I need the rubber mallet
Thank you so much! Immensely helpful video as I am exclusively working on batch of knit fabrics (tops and dresses) :)
Thanks. Great tips.
I can already tell this is filled with really good tips -- thank you!
Happy to share! I did pack a tonne of info in this video, I even ended up cutting out a few tips because the video was so long already 😊

👋👍
Thank you for the tip, that is not something i'd heard of before, but it makes sense fore sure!
When I'm binding a neckline with bias binding, I always join on the bias. I hadn't thought of doing that with a knit though. Great tip.
@@Thelaststitch I wish I understood what you guys mean "joining on the bias".

I’ve experienced major neck band nightmares 😩
How do I get the pattern for the blue t-shirt?
what is the name of the pattern company for the blouses?
I'm looking for someone to make a copy of my jeans, is it possible?
I like the twist top very much. And just for info ‘pussy’ is pronounced as ‘poosy’ not pus-ey. The latter is the nasty stuff you get in wounds.
I’d like to see how to sew the twist top.
Ah, thank you! I had no idea, always good to learn how to pronounce more English words 😊
Or listen to the song Pussycat by Tom Jones. Also winded is not pronounced wiineded but win-did . But I must like many Scandinavians your English is excellent overall.
Thank you for the very practical tips!
