    📃 Video Summary:
In today's video, you will learn how coconut water is made.
Coconuts grow on large palm trees, scientifically known as Cocos nucifera.
Despite the name, did you know that coconuts are botanically considered to be a fruit rather than a nut?
    What about coconut water?
Coconut water is the liquid or juice found in the center of a young, green coconut.
This liquid helps nourish the fruit.
As coconuts mature, some of their juice remains in liquid form, while the rest ripens into a solid, white flesh called coconut meat.
Coconut water naturally forms in the fruit and contains 94 percent water and a bit of fat.
Coconut water usually comes from young coconuts about 6 or 7 months of age.
However, coconut water is also found in mature fruits.
An average green coconut provides about 1/2 to 1 cup of coconut water.
These days, most grocery stores usually carry several brands of coconut water.
And how is coconut water made?
Although it requires a bit of machete work, coconut water is delicious and ready to drink, straight from the coconut.
But since coconut water is pretty much ready to consume in the coconut, what do you think happens before it reaches the grocery store shelves?
After manual harvesting, washing, and cracking open the coconuts, they undergo pasteurization to preserve the coconut water and prolong its shelf life.
Companies that produce coconut water use thermal pasteurization, while others have a proprietary multistep micro-filtration process, making their product pricier.
Both of these techniques make for a longer-lasting coconut water.
So what do you get from more expensive coconut water?
The big difference is that pricier coconut water contains antioxidants that may turn the liquid pink when encountering light.
Some manufacturers include less than one percent additional fruit, sugar, and ascorbic acid.
Many brands use opaque packaging to avoid any visible or obvious color changes.
When it comes to sourcing, most companies procure their coconuts from the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Unless you can easily access fresh coconuts and you're handy with a machete, your best bet to enjoy refreshing coconut water is to buy it from the nearest grocery store.
If you start sipping away at this tropical drink, just be sure to avoid products with added sugar.

I just don't understand how there's enough coconuts to fill 60000+ grocery stores stocked heaping. If each coconut 🥥 has 1/2 cup. And each can has 4-5 cups. We're looking at an average of 410,000,000 coconuts harvested every 2-3 months. How is this possible?

Kirkland Organic is pretty good. Plain and simple just how it should be! A lot of cheaper ones add a lot of sugar which ruins it for me.
