Then when I came to America you guys were portrayed in the media differently. We are the Ausarians and the scattered pieces of Ausar's body, when we get together, we become the original Alpha and Omega physically, mentally/spiritually and we are Africans because Africa is born in us.
I'm sure not ALL Africans feel that way. As an African American, I believe it is a cultural thing, if you move to Africa without respecting the African culture and trying to force your American views on the African people, then yea they aren't going to like you lol but if you show respect, learn the customs and how to move then you'll be good in my opinion... Pretty simple 🤷🏿♂️
I'm African, what I know is this, Afrians don't dislike African Americans. It's the culture sometimes we don't agree with, it's intimidating . We find it to be too animated and excessive and a bit louder than our own to relate to. It has absolutely nothing to do with disliking the people. Note: this could have a lot to do with the images we are presented with through TV and so on. I remember when I was young before I moved here, I had a t-shirt with 50 Cent on it and some really vulgar language on, supposedly from one of his songs, I was just happy to show it off to look cool and a pretend African American. Then, I went to the doctor and he set the record straight with me. He dressed me down for wearing something like that. Clearly, I had no idea what the words meant. This is what we think African Americans are all about. Obviously not all are like that but the media shows us the negative stuff like the rappers and so on. Not ideal for inspiration so to speak. Basically, we are kind of scared of the unknown. Afraid of this becoming part of our fairly quiet culture.
I'm African American and can agree in a way. I don't like the loudness and aggressiveness either. I don't like how mean spirited fellow African American women can sometimes be, and I don't like how some of our men are players or militant. This is a good reason why I feel out of place as a calm and peaceful African American woman. I grew up in a dysfunctional loud household. I love many aspects of our culture such as the heroism, but we do have things that need to be fixed.

What about the other way around: how Africans are presented by media to African-Americans? I can say having only lived here in America that my perception of Africans has been how they’re represented by our media which is primarily as still a somewhat undeveloped and primitive cultures. This is intentional in order to give Americans and especially African-Americans a sense of superiority over Africans highlighting our differences instead of promoting the things we have in common. This isn’t only happening in America, but is the very old and tried proven tactic of divide and conquer. Some BLACK people belive they are CLOSER to White than Black, so that's what makes them different a d DISLOYAL, that's how we were sold into SLAVERY by OUR own.
Europeans laugh at us for hating eachother. Drop the titles, the accents, slavery history , culture, and all u have is people who look alike. African or American. WE THE SAME PEOPLE. Even a white man made the title “African “. So if it wasn’t for the title we’d all consider eachother brothers and sisters. And this is coming from a native born Ugandan🇺🇬 now in Boston. These my people even if they American we all look the same
Spot on. It's really sad. There were breeding farms and I believe these ignorant "black" are from there. I grew up with pride to have African blood in my veins. We had art, literature, etc in the home and I still do. I grew up with books like Ni Macho/I Am Eyes and Jambo Means Hello. I learned about the diaspora and the various places we inhabited but knew the common thread was home-Africa. I believe if anything we must either separate from these ignorant "new blacks" or teach them but my blood boils dealing with them. Most have skin darker than my own and have the gaul to utter they're not African. It's a disease of the mind. Well, have a beautiful life & stay blessed!
I had a problem with Africans. And I think it’s because they had me in the same box that they seen other Black people in. But I fix that real quick when they found out that I was different lol. And then after that when I asked, where was he from It was the hood or low income area of Africa. Which means a lot of Africans come over here with a big head but while in Africa, they’re the average Joe. Lol 😂. We laughed it off and we still cool today.
But I’m “Africa America” and some of my BEST friends are African (if your wondering why I put “” around African American is bc I’m just black and the white people just called us that and after a while we were just like ok and then the new jens think it’s disrespectful and it is to some people but not to a lot so thats why😊)

Some people live to divide. I have many friends who are African and we are closer than some of my blood family. When I've met Africans I've never had a problem. Every African I've met and spoke to formally and informally has always been kind to me. Sometimes more kind than some Americans. Maybe it's your attitude?
I'm married to an African. Before we were married I went to visit and I had zero problems. They are healthy people who love themselves and each other for the most part. They were very kind to me. No one treated me differently. They all greeted me and was happy to see me. My husband is a very private man so they didn't even now what I looked like before I got there. We all laughed when after a few weeks of visiting one of his elder brothers said "we thought you were a big mamma" We all hollered. Their only concern was that I legitimately loved their brother. That I would be good to him. Very kind, welcoming, all very educated and absolutely content with themselves. Self-assured, none of the women I encountered had an issue with me. Was there a whole month and not a problem. I was so glad to see my people so they put up with my hugging everybody. Lol. The young teenage girls were so sweet and respectful. They allowed me to take pictures with them. I was in heaven. Felt like a family reunion. Just beautiful

Riziki: You’ve struck upon an extremely important point about the perception an African might have about an African-American: how we’re being presented by the media to Africans? What about the other way around: how Africans are presented by media to African-Americans? I can say having only lived here in America that my perception of Africans has been how they’re represented by our media which is primarily as still a somewhat undeveloped and primitive cultures.
This is intentional in order to give Americans and especially African-Americans a sense of superiority over Africans highlighting our differences instead of promoting the things we have in common. This isn’t only happening in America, but is the very old and tried proven tactic of divide and conquer. Over the past almost three years I have become far more aware of African culture now than I ever been in my life. You have to seek it for yourself and question what you’re being spoon fed by mainstream media to keep us at one another’s throats: literally including everybody.
