Noah On 5G Hey just wondering do you think using the Apple HomePod in the bathroom will damage the speaker? I see that there is an option for bathroom when setting up. I need a good sounding speaker for large bathroom space. Ideally a smart speaker. thanks. I’m currently using a bose soundlink mini with a towel over it to keep out the moisture. Which this speaker isn’t recommended to be used in the bathroom.
In theory.. Unfortunately the 4s won't consider itself "plugged in" as it doesn't support charging via FireWire, only 5V USB. The Hi-Fi delivers 12V like the FireWire power brick that came with iPods of the time but no USB power. So the 4s won't be powered, therefore no "Hey Siri"..
@@mrunimog1582 that's unfortunate. while quite complicated, you could get a buck convertor and basically splice it inline between the power pins from the dock and the power pins of the lightning port, or alternatively just cut the power from the dock and use regular phone charger for power. However, I don't know if an iPhone could even communicate through firewire or if it uses the same high and low voltages - this would be easy to find out though (just plug it into a computer with firewire and see if it is recognised)
doomtomb3 as someone who owns both, the Hi-Fi’s stereo isn’t phenomenal really, the tweeters are too closely confined to produce stereo audio that is particularly convincing.
Yeah I just bought a used iPod Hifi for a pretty reasonable price and.... I was a bit disappointed. Compared to my friends Bose Sounddock it sounds muddy. However i think the iPod HiFi gets louder. Also keep in mind that the iPod HiFI uses the old Firewire charging standard and won't charge newer devices like the iPhone 4.
@@RamLaska iPod screens? They're like 4 dollars from China. He's cool. EXCEPT WHAT'S THAT? LIKE DRIED UP DIET COKE DRIBBLING DOWN THE HIFI NEAR THE RIGHT SPEAKER? Did anyone else see that? It's a little strange. The HomePod sounds better, IMO, but it also somehow feels small. It's not that it can't get loud, but it's sound somehow just feels small. I can't quite explain it. It might be better with two in stereo, but for $700, it makes much, much more sense to get a good pair of Hifi speakers and an Echo dot... and still save a bunch of money.
I really love these videos and I think the visual element adds so much. Your style is unique and I’m a big fan but I’d recommend either memorizing the scripts a little more or just have a more basic outline. That way they sound more natural. These videos are really great overall though, and I love whenever they show up in my inbox.
I miss the ipod hifi, always wanted it but never owned it... thanks to this vid, I want it again. the homepod was just a desperate attempt to go against the competitors but I can tell sound quality is nowhere near what ipod hifi gives. As a very meticulous audiophile, I remember the hifi met my standards of quality back in the day. But for now, I'll keep my echo dot into my onkyo amp and Bowers & Wilkins speakers.... I know the HP will never sound as good as this setup.

I know the 5 is faster but the 4s does anything I could ever use a phone for the olnly thing I would like in a 4s is a fingerprint sensor. I would like if apple made a iphone SE the side and style of the 4s, the newer Iphones are harder to use one handed compaired to the old ones.
Capital V very Tru. And although the design might not be as nice, the iPhone SE 2 rumored to come out in March may have a glass back to match the iPhone 8. If it does come out, I think that should be your next upgrade.

my samsung has a setting where you can disable the "hey " function while the speakers are being used/audio is playing, iOS/iPadOS probably has the same? then again, you might not want to use it because then you can't control music as easily and nowadays tech youtubers are usually more mindful about censoring that stuff
I just viewed this video again. Love it as much as the last time. And I really love the trip back to the iPod HiFi (I have one of those). The difference is that this time I also have a HomePod. Guess what my HomePod did every time you said : "Hey Siri". Yep, you got it. It answered you. It even set a five minute timer and refuse to set up the second time. It even often gave the same reply as your HomePod word for word. That was fun. Thanks.
Fun rewatching this three years later :-) I am pleased to say I just asked SIRI the same questions on my paired Mini’s and they handled the timers just fine. Not having the multiple timers at the launch of the original HomePod was the main reason I did not buy one ... instead I bought multiple Echo devices ... and I have a SONOS MOVE and ARC/SUB/ONE surround set up ... Based on my experience with the Mini thus far I am impressed. It is a shame that Apple left so much money on the table with the original HomePod ... I am sure I would own like 4 of them by now ... if only it could have handled multiple timers at launch. I hope they reintroduce a HomePod with a screen ... if they do I will replace my Echo show and put Minis throughout my home .... time to hold my breath.
Oh I do have a question actually... People keep mentioning how focused it is on Apple Music subscriptions... but what about iTunes Match subscribers? Can I ask Siri to play things from my iTunes Library since it's all "matched" and in the cloud? Without the monthly streaming subscription?
Nice comparison. My family business is a tree service and that guy in your neighbors tree made me nervous. I use an iPad Pro to manage essentially everything related to the business, so I enjoy listening to you and the others on Connected (even if you don’t particularly favor the iPad).
HomePod only makes sense if you only purely have Apple devices and use Apple Music. It's really such a pain that they couldn't at least allow me to pair my Pixel to it with a Bluetooth function AS WELL as AirPlay...
Nice video. :) As a non-Apple Music subscriber, I was hoping for more iPod Hi-Fi footage. ;) But it’s nice to see an unbiased review of the HomePod too. :)

Great video Stephen! I feel the HomePod has missed the mark; however most of the issues could potentially be resolved through software updates if Apple chooses to address them. Other than the non-detachable cable the hardware looks pretty solid. I hope you don't mind the suggestion but I think it would be great to add some soft music in the background of your videos to create some ambience.

I own the 2006 dock and it sounds better for being stereo with decent separation. The larger case gives it better sub bass than the homepod too
The iPod HiFi sounded better because I prefer stereo sound stage over just more bass...
