ilovedagreenday lol no, not by a long shot. People love to write Steve off as a salesman who sold crappy overpriced products but because he’s such a good salesman and conman people would buy the stuff. But the facts are, Apple ran almost no ads with barely a marketing department. With over a billion Apple devices sold, do you think all those people were watching Steve Jobs talk and were immediately convinced to buy because of his sales pitch? A very low percentage of consumers even bother to watch the WWDC or keynotes Apple puts forth. Truth is, even if Steve didn’t talk at all the devices would’ve sold in similar fashion. Consumers don’t care about nice words and sales pitches, they care about the product being satisfactory so that they’ll buy it again or recommend it to friends. And Apple has the highest customer satisfaction so I guess you’re the idiot here.
Wow, what a steal. How does it compare to the HomePod? Does it still hold? Because according to the explanation it looks like it does... even wondering if it is even better.
@@alejmc Have never listened to a Home pod but for that price it was a no brainier ,I would definitely recommend if you can find one in the 100 ish range . I also like the fact that it has an aux port ,so almost any bluetooth receiver w a 3.5mm and the 6 D batteries make it portable . Good solid sound as well . Good luck
3:38 Oh, so that’s what the white plastic piece that came in the box with my old iPod touch and classic was for. That solves a decade+ old mystery for me.
12 years old and still rocking our social living room. Best design. Good all round sound yet back in the days too cheap to be true HiFi yet enough boxy volume for a bass punch. mids are muddy. highs have nice sharp tonal definition. Keeps us from buying a Sonos system... until it dies? haha
Ya man and Steve Jobs was amazing just amazing! I wish I could have met him and learned a bit with regard to his sales techniques he was just phenomenal!
HD video cameras have been around since the 90s and Apple had already added HD H.264 support to quicktime when this was filmed. Playstation 3 had just released with 1080p output and Blu-Ray playback. Most stuff Apple did in the 2000s was probably filmed in HD, only problem is that poor quality stream rips are the only videos that have been uploaded to youtube
Thanks to him, most devices today look much more simpler. He’s also responsible for removing most of the buttons and fancy lights on the tape equalizer deck lol
Because the product isn’t as good that is worth buying or switching. There are better options. The sales pitch of it, however, is as good as it could have been done.
@@pondermatic Back then a rechargeable lithium ion battery the size you'd need for something like this would have probably jacked up the price quite a bit.
I love this speaker so much! But the only thing is that when you turn it up close to max volume there’s lots of port noise. But man, does this thing go loud without distortion and still keeping its bass.
Never understood why this product got so much hate. 15 years later and it is still hands down the best single enclosure stereo I have ever owned and ties with the original iPhone SE as the best Apple product I have had the pleasure of using. Hell, its sound quality arguably even trumps B&W’s many iterations of the luxe Zeppelin! Jobs was right about the soundstage disappearing on this: you can’t really tell that the sound is coming out of a single enclosure - proof that the folks at Apple who worked on the tuning of the drivers employed some serious voodoo trickery to make it sound so convincing despite the physical limitations of the chassis. Paired with an Airport Express and a mini toslink cable, this speaker is every bit as relevant as all the other speakers that are out there today.
Denon, Yamaha, and Panasonic were making ridiculously good micro all in one systems that supported ipods, and they absolutely oblivitaed this thing, not just in price but also in sound quality. This thing was okay , it sounded great for the bedroom or the small living room, but the price wasn't worth it.
Wasn't that because of the file sharing applications of the early 2000s like Napster, Gnutella, Limewire, etc.? Those popularized 128kbps mp3 files long before Apple got into the music business. Still much better than 64kbps/32kbps wmv or rm files from before then.
Yes, very true. But 128kbps just sounds so crappy, especially in those days when they were just rips of CDs, and not separately mastered for iTunes. But to their credit, Apple did adapt to 256 kbps lossy files rather quickly. And inmy opinion, there's no reason not to offer lossless streaming / iTunes downloads at this point. :)
I wonder that no one pointed out the inherent flaw in this introduction..."you gotta have a sealed enclosure for great sound" right after presenting the bass ports ;)
I have a HiFi and a few HomePods. Both have their strengths, but I wonder if Steve would be satisfied with the HomePod. My only criticism of the HomePod is I feel it should be larger and, by virtue, louder.
For some reason I never saw this. Also 1) this Apple is dead, this was clearly peak post war consumerism (audiophile were mainstream in Steve's youth. Less so now) 2) it's still more interesting hearing him talk rather than current apple reveals ..
Original homepod wasn't great though. It wasn't using the best version of Siri and couldn't do basic functions the Amazon Echo or Google Home did. The new homepods are selling pretty well now though
Ok, straight away I've spotted a major flaw with this, no bluetooth!! School boy error!! Another problem, no stereo sound!! When he showed the alternative hifi with the 2 speakers, I realised that was a better option than this thing!
it's still stereo if you notice there's 3 speakers in the thing i'm sure it's engineered in a way that it will sound stereo even though it's coming from one box but i'm not sure it's going to be better than a real high quality stereo, also even the ipods at that time did not have Bluetooth since i assume Bluetooth was not advanced enough to send high quality audio back then idk but it was definitely not common you would only see Bluetooth on these little mono ear things to use your phone without touching it also the iphone was not out yet so apple had no Bluetooth device up to that point, now i can't say if the hi-fi was good or not since i never heard one in person but from what other people here say they are satisfied with it. Keep in mind the ipod was the most popular mp3 player back then and no phone were really good at playing music also i doubt any mp3 player of that era had Bluetooth so it made no sense to add it back in 2006.
NO !!! I bought one in 2012, and it exploded right after 2 hours of use. I lost my right hand, my wife lost an eye and my kid caught a shrapnel from the power supply, and died a couple of days later.

It’s so sad to think Steve Jobs was an audiophile and Tim Cook buys Beats and creates AirPods. Basically the opposite of what Steve Jobs described this product as. No clarity, no soundstage, no imaging. Apple needs to hire some real snooty audio engineers to develop the third generation of product. Even AirPod pros are basic. I have a pair of $40 Balanced Armature Earbuds that sound much better
I found the deafening silence of the audience depressing. It's too bad that this product didn't get the respect it deserved, especially when (sonically) compared agains the competition. Personally, I feel that this is one of the few times that Jobs minimalism and simplicity worked against sales. And yes, I join all the others here with how much I miss him.
Still using it, love the sound, clear and balanced even after 10 years

one key design flaw: the product never had dedicated tweeters.
