    For me, i went straight into ultrasound school right after i finished xray school. And it was just as stressful and challenging as xray school. I developed major anxiety and paranoia when i went through ultrasound school. I actually almost quit in the first semester of US school because I couldn’t get the best grades i wanted on tests and thought i was gonna fail out of the program. But my teacher refused to let me quit and told me that she see the potential of me being an excellent tech. She said she didn’t want all my hard work, dedication and talents to go to waste. So i continued through, got that diploma, and my registries. And when i started my first day as a new tech, my anxiety went beyond through the roof. But it was worth the hard work, stress and struggles. And now almost 3yrs in, i’m glad i decided to push through. Such a difficult, stressful but rewarding profession. i also want to give a good chunk of the credit to my teacher who never gave up on me. ☺️

    Not easy at all! And I'm currently a student! I have read in articles and have seen on different social media platforms that sonography is one of the "easier" healthcare professions, BUT that's FALSE! I believe ALL healthcare professions are never easy and sonography programs are no different than nursing or med school in terms of their intensity and rigorousness of the classwork load. I love my program because I love what I'm learning and am looking forward to what's in store for me once I complete my DMS program! :))

    I went into the program thinking it would be pretty easy. Maybe a little challenging with physics but not that bad and I was soooo wrong. I’ve had nurse friends drop out of nursing school to do it and say it’s either as hard if not harder than nursing school. It truly tests you mentally and emotionally. It was the hardest thing I’ve done but am so happy I did it. The harder it is the prouder you are when you succeed. You really do earn the letters after your name but it’s so worth it!!

    Ultrasound school is the most stressful, emotional, and draining roller coaster. But it is also the most rewarding career. With more and more workload being added on to techs, it is becoming more and more stressful. For those who say it is not a stressful job clearly have no clue what an ultrasound tech really does day to day. 🤷🏻‍♀️ it is more than taking photos of babies 👏

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  3 года назад +2

      You’re soooo right Alex!! Work load is much more than people think it is.. and way more than just seeing babies.. even just the babies part, we see so many sad things.. unfortunate things… heart breaking things and we can’t even comfort the patient like we properly would like to because of the doctor having to be the one to relay all the news to them. I’m so thankful you are helping many open their eyes to this field. It’s definitely like you said, a rollercoaster.. but one that’s worth getting on!!! My father has been a vascular tech for his entire career (started in early 20s, now 60) and just last week he had to do an exam that he just started learning...yes, he's still learning things! He didn't feel as confident as he usually is since it was a new exam and he got so anxious that he started to have an anxiety attack and almost threw up.
    This job is not easy. I really think it takes a dedicated and strong person (emotionally and physically) to do it without causing harm to oneself. It has taken its toll on him because he also deals with mental struggles. Though it is rewarding, there are serious cons to consider, as with any job in the medical field.

    I just started 3 days ago. 1st day we scanned the parasternal long axis of the heart today we did the abdominal aorta. I was ready to quit yesterday b/c I feel so lost. I have not worked in this field. I am in my late 40's and have worked hard to get all my pre-req and classes done over the past year after returning to school after twenty-something years and never getting a degree. All my schooling over the past year has been online. I found out half of last semester's class failed and after day 3 I understand how. My biggest struggle is being thrown on the machines and not knowing what I am looking at or what I should be seeing. Also, I struggle with the placement of the probe on the patient. I also have RA and my hand is killing me, but I refuse to allow that part to deter me. I am so stressed already about the scanning part that IDK what to do. Never in a million years did I think it would be this hard

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  3 года назад +4

      I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. Your mental and physical health is the most important thing to focus on. You cannot be the best sonographer you can be if you are constantly stressed and in pain. I highly suggest you speak with someone you trust, whether it be family, friends, colleagues, professors, counselors.. to see if this is really something you want to do and pursue. It definitely is hard, but it is doable. And it's okay if it's also something you find yourself not wanting to do anymore. It truly depends on each person, the personality, the goals and mindset. If you put your all into, you can do it. But do it because you truly want to finish and not because you think you have to. It's okay to not know, but it would be best for you to think really deep inside what you want for yourself and your future! I hope everything is okay and know that we're here for you!

I was told by my family to enroll in a private college right out of highschool, and go into a lot of debt. I thought I wanted to be a teacher(boy was I wrong). I haven't even started college yet and I'm regretting it already. I want to move into an apartment with some of my friends and work for a few years and save so I can get the schooling done with as little debt as possible. I really don't want to be in debt for the rest of my life. And I think if I applied myself I could handle this career. I want to be financially smart, so I won't be miserable in the future. Depending on your program you go to, that may happen. Some could potentially give you warnings but it is most likely you have to have failed more than once to be completely removed. You definitely need to speak with the school directly to get a definite answer.

      Hi there!! Don't let your fear stop you from potentially doing something great! You never know unless you try. And if you fail, at least you tried. • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  2 года назад +1

      both! it CAN be chill, but not always.. and it is only considered as "easy" because the hard work put through schooling makes sonographers look like their job is easy. in school you have to get into programs that only take 10-20 people per year, it's very competitive - then the courses are rigorous. lots of anatomy/ physiology/ physics. the job is just as hard, if not harder - when you are on your own you're dealing with patients at the bedside, with doctors/ radiologists, inconsistency in certain areas and aspects of the jobs.. but it is still as much rewarding as it is challenging.

      No. There are CAAHEP accredited programs as well as other schools who do not require anything prior to ultrasound. However, there are some that do require x-ray or CNA beforehand to be accepted. When you research schools, this will be part of the decision making process.

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  2 года назад

      They're essentially the same thing, diagnostic means it's for diagnosing purposes. There are some places that do ultrasound and they don't give you diagnoses but just take images. Diagnostic meaning radiologists read them.
