I've been taking Concerta XR 54mg /day for 6 months now. For me the benefits are greater than the side effects. The side effects I have and still experience are: acid reflux, irritability that can go into full anger from trivial things, some reckless behavior and , without it I fall in a depressed mood and pretty much can't do anything anymore. Hope it helps someone! ☺

Glad you get more benefit from it, the side effects will be varying in severity for everyone.
I still take it occasionally when I need to get motivated. Good luck.

I take 90MG a day.... if you took 20MG 3x a day of instant release the actual dose needed for concerta is 90MG. Most doctors will not do this but that is the reason why you’re having so much trouble with concerta. It’s just too low.

I was on concerta, I did great in high school til I got off. Then as an adult I tried again. I was doing well, but the office closed and I couldn't find another doctor I could afford without insurance. ITs 5 years later and I am trying to get back on Concerta. I miss being able to focus and honestly I know the side effects and I am okay with that.

i’ve been taking concerta for a good 2 months . the side effects for me were: shaking, jitteriness, nervousness, loss of appetite, stuttering (slightly), tummyaches, irritability and my anxiety was increased.
however it does help me focus and it makes me do things productive. i love how it constantly keeps me busy . i would find a lot of stuff to do when it would be in my system.
ive been taking this stuff pretty much my whole life , i used to be on 20 mg of methylphenidate but it would wear off too soon so i would have to take another one throughout the day and my doctor didn’t want an overdose and i even feared that myself . so she put me on 36 mg to balance out the whole day. i have to say it’s doing good for me just the side effects that make it hard, but it’s okay ! i just kinda fear addiction… i dont wanna become addicted . but i think im okay :) thanks for the video

I LOVE Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Dr. Russell Barkley. I am relistening to it now on audible. I listen to it while I do errands or in between work tasks or even as I get ready to go out. A great book to understand the neuroscience of ADHD a little bit more and practical steps to control it (hence the name.) I highly recommend this book to adults with ADHD.

Listening to him and reading some of the comments, I honestly thought a lot of the side effects were unrelated, like the voice, the anxiety, the muscle tension, the irratibilty to name a few. So it turns out I'm not so much of an asshole, it was just my meds. I might still be an asshole. I haven't stopped taking them for about 4 years now

Hi, I discovered yesterday May 22, 2020. That I have ADHD. I'm 33yo and It would be much easier if I discovered it 20 years ago. I started Converta today, still did't feel much difference as I am trying first the 18mg, but it's a relieve to know it. All my life I struggled with tasks, even tough I learnd another language, I graduated as a Commercial Pilot, worked with that in Brazil and Canada for a total of 7 years, work as a stocktrader for 4 years and now living in Japan, trying to learn japanese, as my wife's familie and herself are from here. I have acompliched few nice things, but I always felt I am under average, all my life. Not great in 'nothing', mediocre in most of things. Happy in general with the most important things like family, love, life experiences... But professionaly not so much, mostly frustrated and disappointed with my performance. Let's see how this discovery will be a life changing for me. I'll go again to the psychiatrist in 15 days to see how the medicine worked and if we'll increase or not.
You channel is helping me a lot, Thank you a lot!!!

When I was on concerta, it would stop working for me a week into taking it, although in the week it worked it really helped me out with my work. I don’t remember this, but my mom says it would make my mouth tic often and she has video proof of it happening. Despite this all happening, I wish she would take me to the doctor to at least try a different medicine. She refuses to, no matter how much everyone else in the family begs her to. I saw a comment say the good outweighs the bad, but for me it’s the opposite

Ask the doctor if he/she can alert other health care people to try to help...Find a way to use the health care people or your school counselors to pressure your parents...getting treatment will improve your life and your school work...without it, your likelihood of doing well in the long run goes down...at least until you can help yourself once you leave the house...and it sounds like you should leave when you can...

For everyone feelin irratible ( tense muscles eventually pain ) for me at least what works is exercising. I know this is pretty common knowledge but i havent seen it in comment section so i feel obliged to say it. When i dont exercise i feel the muscle tension and pain very extremely to the point that it disables me from doing anything else but exercising solves it. You dont need to exercise in particular for example streching or yoga also helps to relieve the tension. Also a final tip that helped for me is the cold showers. Lately i didnt really have time to exercise and i am very irritable tho and not really sure what to do aside from these so any other tips are welcome. Btw im currently on concerta so maybe switching med will help does anyone have any experience about this?

I was on 18mg for a week then started 36mg after that. The working effects are fantastic. I finally felt everything lighting up and was functioning like I normal (Nerotypical)..
The day I went up to 36mg (Friday, week before) I had this lower back pain that spread Across my pelvis too late that evening. By Tuesday nothing changed, I was still in discomfort..
I went back and forth to the doctors Wednesday-Friday and was treated for an infection although my results were clear. Friday I had swollen up and looked 6 months pregnant.. the pain Would exacerbate if I was to bend over to pick up something or standing up from a seated position.. almost like the feeling I was crushing something inside my pelvis doing these movements.
I came completely off the meds on Saturday to see if it would correct itself. It didn’t and felt so Defeated and stressed..
The pain didn’t let up by Sunday (today) so I took 36mg. More just to cope with going to a&e.. I really Struggle articulating myself And social situations..
The hospital did the same tests and said they believe I have groin strain! I said to them how can it be groin strain over nine days?? I then told him about the Concerta. I mentioned it started the day I took 36mg and that I came off it for one day and when I went back on it today. I noticed the stiff neck and the cold hands the most..
They think it might be the Concerta that’s causing this pain because it all started that Friday I went up to 36 mg.
I reckon they’re gonna take me off for two weeks when I see my own GP tomorrow.
If it sorts its self out I’m going to be prescribed something else..
Any recommendations as Concerta is the only thing I’ve tried and found it absolutely fantastic but the side-effects are not worth it.
    ☹️

Thanks so much for this. I've just started on Concerta LP (not sure if LP is equivalent to XL here in France) but I've just been really quite discouraged, quite bummed out after my first week taking it. This is after 4 years of begging doctors in France to prescribe something that the majority of doctors in the country refuse to prescribe as France is a bit behind when it comes to conditions like ADHD. The side effects have been pretty scary - tremendous irritability, tension in the back of my neck and head, sudden periods of extreme emotion, just feeling as if I've drank too much coffee, really. It doesn't feel healthy, it's scary. I took a low dose of ritalin when I lived in Korea and that made me feel more 'awake' and enganged in conversations, I remember feeling 'normal', but this is different, this is just stressful.

I'm taking concerta at a low dose (18 mg), but so far I feel like my body is physically in a rush on the inside(like I could win a race) , but my brain can actually think clearly and my thoughts are more slowed down instead of 1000 thoughts per second. i stopped taking it after a couple weeks because when the concerta would wears off my vision would be burry and i had major depth perception loss like i didn’t know how far or close someone or something is and i couldn’t focus my eyes because the medication would make a muscle in my eye spas out. but medications effect everyone differently so i hope concerta can work and help you.

ive only been on 27mg of concerta for like 3 days and i feel like ive gone through a new physical symptom everyday. first it was a stomach ache, i could handle that, then day 2 was a very minor headache, it constantly felt like i was on the verge of having a full blown headache and day 3 has been nausea. i got work done on day to and im doing work today so we will see how that goes, i hope my body adjusts to the meds and picks a symptom i can fair better like the mild stomach aches of day one.

I can’t stop grinding my teeth when I take it . It also makes me sweat a lot , super thirsty like just gulping shit ton water down because after every sip u still feel so thirsty. I can’t eat on it so I eat something filling before taking it otherwise I won’t eat for 24 hours , if u don’t eat on this med it’ll make u pass out . Makes u lose a lot of weight . Also made me super non social I’m already non social and I would get mad when people spoke to me for a long time . Loud noises made me jump , so paranoid like just jumpy and high alert all the time . Also made me crave for nicotine a lot even tho I quit it . One sip of alcohol and u can have a seizure it’s that serious lol . Can’t sleep on it and melatonin won’t do shit . Bad headaches and dizziness. U always have to be doing something otherwise you’ll be bored just staring at the wall deep in thought . Everything is dirty to me on this med like id sweep the floor over and over , or just clean a lot and then sweat a ton . I hate being outside on it u can hear everything like the birds the wind people etc everything is so sensitive it’ll annoy u . If u been holding something in for awhile and ur around people on the med you’ll just snap on them for no reason . Once it wears off you’ll feel like eating a shit ton of food , craving stuff u don’t even like . Stuttering when u are talking to someone that requires more then small talk . So sensitive everything hurts like noises it’s annoying.

It would have been nice if you mentioned the dose, I suspect you are on a high dose maybe the highest.
Those are all side effects I have heard people talk about, and I know myself, the higher voice pitch is true cause of increased anxiety , its the high dose 100%
You would not have those issues on 5 10 or 18 mg methylphenidate.

I do believe it was a side effect to the drug as it was so extreme and no other factors were involved. None of the pharmacists at work had heard of that side effect specifically with this drug, but sudden stomach weight gain can be a side effect with drugs. I believe that was the case for me as my eating hadn't changed.

I’m 41yrs old and have just been diagnosed with ADHD. I began titration yesterday at 18mg Zaggitin xl (concerta equivalent). I noticed the jaw ache yesterday and the same today and that’s 18mg. What am I going to be like on 36mg when my dose increased?? I’m a very highly strung person and although I’ve been anxious in public today, it’s similar to how I’ve felt in the past. I have found that I haven’t been as frustrated or angry since I started taking it. I have been quite tired though. Can anyone relate to this?

    • @pedroelton7040
      @pedroelton7040 4 года назад

Try not put this much expectations in a medicine. It's not NZT. Be happy totally depends on you, take the right dosage and early, like 7am. Wake up 6am or before, go sleep 10~11pm, not after, make exercises reguarly to burn energy. I had this problem too, all my life, mostly because I had too much energy acumulated. Eat as much as you can/need in the right time, avoid eat in wrong schedule, like in the middle of afternon, night... Try eat a good break fast before 9, a nice lunch around 12~1pm, dinner between 19~20... If you wanna eat something else, avoid big meals, only things like banana, apple, juices. It helps, sometimes you eat small things in wrong moments and it take out all you appetites.
Maybe, change the medicine helps too... From Concerta (Methylphenidate) to Vyvance (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate). It helps most of people. I hope you do well mate. God bless you!

      @terrancecloverfield6791 2 месяца назад

I look at it differently. I can't say I was 'viciously angry', but I have always repressed a lot of anger because I try to avoid conflict. On ADHD meds, I found that it is far more healthy to let others know how angry you can be, otherwise they're not going to know better. I felt bad about the negativity of being "that guy" to make others uncomfortable. However, I say that as long as you own the negatively as part of who you are, and carry yourself with proper candor, then I think society can forgive you. It's like The Simpson's Ned Flanders, if you know what I may be referring to.
