We edited some maps for so many times and firstly we wanted to Refer to Poland-Lithuania as The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and then switched back to Poland-Lithuania, but unfortunately, we combined those 2 names in the one that you will see in the video: Polish-Lithuania... 🙄 Dumb things are happening sometimes. Command_Unit Ruthenia is usually referred to the lands of Belarussia and Ukraine under Lithuanian/Polish control. The Rus/Slavs there where calling themselves Rusyn before. Russia itself wasn’t “Russia” in the beginning and later adopted it as a official name of the country. I don’t like when Russians act as if everything evolved and diverged from “them”. The split already happened with the Rus Princess. If they are just eastern slavic dialects then why did they need translators between muscovite crown and cossacks in the Ukraine during 16-,17- and 18th century as a example. Belarussian and Ukrainian languages are distinct from Russian. And throughout systematic methods they where banned, frowned upon and regarded as lesser languages. If they where the same and just dialects, then why ban them? Different terminologies about who and what can be argued without an end. Modern Russians, Ukrainians and Belarussians have the same roots. And no one originated from the other ( language, culture, nationality)

Earth is a planet because it meets the criteria to be classified as a planet. To be more specific, because of gravity pulling particles together to form larger and larger objects until they can be called planets.
The grass is Green because cloraphil is green, grass is made up largely of cloraphil, which is the best colour to absorb enough sunlight to create energy for the plant.
The Sky is blue because of the way light refracts through the atmosphere.

People around the world pronounce countries differently. For example, Iran. In the UK, we say the I like the word igloo... i-ran. In USA, they say the I like the word eye... eye-ran. According to the soundbite on the Wikipedia page, the British say it right, but that doesn't mean we get everything right.
We say Belarus like Bella-roos, not Bell-aruss. But we say Bella-Russian, not Bella-roosen. I have no idea if we get it right.
We pronounce the S at the end of Paris, while the French don't. I just can't bring myself to say Pa-ree.
Point being, there's lots of ways to pronounce places, and it varies around the world.

This program misses the most important reason why Belarus is a separate nation. In 1569, when the unified Polish-Lithuanian kingdom was established, the territory of the present day Belarus and the territory of Lithuania retained the full autonomy within the Polish Kingdom and it retained the name "Grand Duchy of Lithuania". The local dialect of the original language called "Ruski" (predecessor of modern Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian) evolved into a separate language that differed from both Great Russian spoken to the east and Polish language that eventually became the official language of the Duchy of Lithuania. Therefore the Belarussian nation with it's own language was born. Later on, especially under the Soviet rule and partly due to horrendous loss of population in the II world war, the russification of Belarus ensued and most population switched to Russian. To summarize; the Belorussian nation is hundreds of years old and deserves it's own state.

So the language of Belarus is “ruski”? Do you understand that that actually means Russian? Which means Belarussians are not a separate nation at all, they are Russians.

    • @Kasey1405
      @Kasey1405 2 года назад +31

@@matija5134 Not quite. The true and original meaning of "Ruski" refers to the slavic language of Kievan Rus. Ruski was the base language for three separate East Slavic languages, similarly to Latin being a base for Romance languages in Europe. The part of Kievan Rus that remained free from Mongol rule eventually fell under the rule of the Grand Duchy pf Lithuania.(GDL) and the "Ruski" remained the language of the state until Polish took over. In 1569 GDL was reduced to it's northern reaches and remained a separate, autonomic part of the Kingdom of Poland and in that form existed for over 200 years, time long enough to local "Ruski" to evolve into a language diferent from "Ruski" spoken in Ukraine and in Muscovy. The word "Ruski" was used in the Kingdom of Poland for both Belorussian and Ukrainian until the modern meaning of Belorussian and Ukrainian took hold. The official language of Russian Empire appropriated the name "Russki" together with the imperial notion that it is the proper "Russki". The fact that Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian existed as separate languages was even recognized in the census of the Czarist Russia. The russification proceses in the course of the 20th century significantly reduced the extent of use and importance of both Balorussian annd Ukrainian.

5:15 There's a difference between "Polish-Lithuania" and "Poland-Lithuania" . Firstly, if you use the first title, you literally just claim that both entities were Polish and not dualistic,. Secondly, the other title fits it better because Treaty of Lublin declared this country to be a *dual* monarchy composed of *two separate independent states* . Learn and remember that and don't repeat this mistake again.
And by the way: You do know that these sort of titles will literally just trigger people from this country? Why is that even a question in the title, I don't get it, weren't there any other alternatives for a better title of this video?

Love the video man, I've just never heard anyone pronounce it Bel-air-is always thought it was more like Bel-uh-roos. Although you may have to ask a Belarussian tbh, I know it's an English pronunciation anyways so no biggy.

I guess Belarusians can comment this more but as I understand, King Mindaugas of Lithuania original teritory contained land around nowaday Vilnius (current capital of Lithuania) and some nowaday Belarus land. So as Lithuania was created from Baltic lands, Belarus states that one of Belarus founders are also Lithuania ruler. But as I said, You might want someone from Belarus to confirm that...

@OOGA BOOGA Not really understood the question :D I mean, I'm from Lithuania and I cannot know if Belarus for real recognize that as fact, I only heard it from media as our historians explained why Belarus is building statues of King Mindaugas and Grand duke Gediminas. Now from what I understand, soviet side of Belarus tries to destroy that history and democratic part tries to rebuild it or something like that. So you sure need to ask people from Belarus for more info as I'm in no position to state it as 100 percent truth.

Interesting video but neglects the role of St Eufrasina of Polsk around whom Belarusian patriots still rally. Belarusian identity is very much linked to religious heritage. My father was a Belarusian patriot who’s family was destroyed by Soviet armies. My grandmother spent 9 years at hard labor in a Stalinist gulag in Siberia for resistance to the communist occupiers. Belarus is indeed a nation which has struggled for independence from its larger neighbors and which has its own language and traditions.

Beautiful country, beautiful people. However Lukashenko should not be part of the equation, his maintenance in power is an abnormality. Wishes for a great future for Belarusians , we wait for them to be part of the West, where they will have democracy, human rights and of course a higher standard of life

Why is Belarus a country? - Same reason why Macedonia is a country: Comintern liked to make more republics and nations. Infact Bulgaria was supposed to be divided into even more new nations - Thracians, Dobrujans, Rhodopeans. This was done because Bulgaria was considered too unitary for the Cominern's taste. As for Russia and Serbia, for most of their history they've consisted of separate duchies and tsardoms, so they just repeated their history - divided themselves.
