Without this video i wont be able to prep them for it. I emailed the airport for help. They cannot even provide me screenshots for how to connect wifi…they would offer help on phone only.

¡Hola Tio Tony! I finally revisited Madrid again last week! Unfortunately, my flight from London arrived very late at night and my hostel (near the Callao Station) didn't answer the bell when I arrived past midnight. So I decided to just walk along Gran Via (I only had a backpack anyway) and found an open bocadillería for some jamon and zumo :) After that I decided to just go back to the airport (short walk Gran Via to Cibeles, of course) via the 24hr yellow bus since I had a morning flight to Dublin the next day, and sleep at the airport. I noticed...that T2 was a lot more peaceful at night than T4 (my flight was with Aer Lingus, so T4 was my first option) for sleeping. T4 was still crowded and noisy past midnight! The whole time I was in Madrid I was thinking of your channel and "what did Tony and Cecilia advise about this?" LOL! Maybe do a "Sleeping tips at the airport in Spain and Portugal" series as well? Hasta la proxima.

Hey. Firstly thank you for such a clearly explained video. I was hoping you could give me some guidance on my specific situation. I have a flight with Ryanair from Edinburgh, UK, to madrid, and then another flight from madrid to mexico city with aeromexico. I do not have any checked luggage. I am assuming, once I arrive, I will need to go through immigration control, and then find which gate to go to, etc.
I was a bit silly in that my arrival time in madrid is 12:05, and my flight from madrid is at 13:30. I'm not a regular flyer so I ignorantly thought this would be enough time. I guess I'm wondering - what terminals do you expect I will arrive / depart from, and, I was wondering as well how strict the 13:30 departure time is? Does boarding close completely some time before that? It is a 12 hr 30 minute flight - do they tend to have some leeway, or are they very strict on timings?
Also, I did not book these tickets with one provider, I booked them separately. If it were the case I miss my flight, are they usually okay with you getting the next flight, even if it's tomorrow? Or do you have to purchase a brand new ticket, etc?
Sorry, I know that's a lot of questions! Thank you :-)

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  Месяц назад

Hi, you should arrive at T1 or T2 and depart from T1. Yours is a high risk connection. Boarding finishes before the estimated departure time. Ryanair is adamant that if you loose a connection due to a delay on a flight of theirs, it is entirely your responsibility. Try changing your first flight.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  3 месяца назад

There is no such thing as a connecting flights area at T2. You disembark from your incoming flight, look for your boarding gate and head to it (unless you need to pick up your luggage). If you need to print your boarding card you will have to go to the open part of the terminal and head to the check-in desks at the departures area.

Should I fly home to Chicago from Seville on Iberia with a one hour 5 minute layover in MAD? Or should I take the train from Seville the day before and just fly out of MAD? From what you are saying, it sounds like it would be risky to try to catch an 11:35am flight to Oviedo, which I assume would depart from T1-3? Otherwise it looks like we would have to wait to catch a 3pm train from Chamartin or a 3:45pm flight. It is not common practice for baggage to be transferred automatically on a T1 to T4S connection, double check with your airline. In the majority of cases, you would go through immigration and collect your luggage at T1.

On April 29, 2023 we will arrive from Dallas DFW to MAD on AA #36 and must connect to Iberia #8792 to Casablanca (CMN). Based on your video, I think we arrive at T4S and depart same terminal. Is that correct? No checked luggage.
On May 5, 2023 we will arrive from CMN to MAD on Royal Air Marco #972 and will stay in MAD for a couple of days. I think we will arrive in T4S, is that correct? No checked Luggage.
On May 7, 2023 we depart MAD for DFW on AA #37. I think this also departs from T4S, is this correct? No checked luggage.
I am handicapped and I use crutches. When I try to fill out the form for wheelchair service with Aena Barriers Free in MAD, I am required to list a meeting point.
What do I list as a meeting point for wheelchair service in MAD:
For April 29 when connecting MAD to CMN ?
And for May 5 for when we will arrive MAD from CMN?

Hello there, all your flights will either arrive or depart from T4S. As for the meeting point, we would put something like "boarding gate", since it's there where it makes sense for someone to wait for you. In any case, you can place that request when you check-in for each flight and the airline will communicate your needs to the destination airport. All the best.

I plan to return from Paragauy in December (to Vienna), the departure from Asuncion is 14:20 and arrival is 5:15 of the Madrid time.
The Air Europa lands on T1 and fortunately flights from Paraguay usually arrive earlier. Planned arrival is 5:15 and then I likely think about going with Iberia from T4 to Vienna that is going to departure at 8:40.
I will have checked baggage with me so I guess I will have less than 3 hours (passport control and claiming my baggage) to get from T1 with my baggage to the T4. I remember the departures areas of T1 very well as I usually was flying through this terminal, the bus stop is outside of the departures in T1? The good thing is that you won't have to go through immigration on arrival. On the not so good side of things, flights to America involve an extra layer of passport control. If everything goes smooth, you should have time. If your flight is delayed, your connection might be compromised.

We have a 90 minute connecting time to get to our second flight on American Airlines to JFK. These flights are on the same confirmation code but we do have a separate code for our Iberia flight. Will Iberia check our bags directly to JFK or will we need to collect our bags and re-check them for our American Airlines flight to JFK? I believe Iberia and American both fly in/out of T-4(s). If we are flying business class on both airlines, would you recommend the Fast track for security control? Thank you!

Hello, you would need to check with the airline as it is the only one that can give a definite answer to your question on baggage Your flight will arrive at T4 and you will depart from T4S. If available, use Fast Track indeed, but that might not be the case given the specifics of your connection.

Hello Tony, thank you so much for this amazing video.
I need your help please if you don't mind.
My cousin and I are coming in on different flights to Madrid, Barajas -- she's arriving at terminal T1 (at 14:15) and I'm arriving at T4S (at 14:50). How can I go meet her at T1? (She's 17 and scared to get lost if she comes looking for me), Can you suggest a good meeting spot? or a place where she can wait for me until I come get her? Also I read online that T1 doesn't have free wifi in arrival for us to get in touch. I thank you in advance. -Hope

Hello Hope, there is a food joint, DEHESA DE SANTA MARÍA, you will see as soon as you reach the public area of T1 at the arrivals level. That could be the ideal place to wait. Whether eating/drinking something at the bar, or standing right outside it. As far as we are aware, free wifi is available throughout the airport. All the best.

Thank you sooo much for this. I have a flight from Bordeaux > Madrid (T4), and then Madrid (T1) > Jeddah.
Would I need to go from T4 to T4S to clear immigration, then back to T4, and then on to T1?

Hello Enakshi. There is no immigration control on arrival from Bordeaux, as it is considered a domestic flight. You will just go from T4 to T1.

Hello.. I am going to Porto from Granada..lay over in Madrid Barajas for 50 minutes only..is it enough time? We will depart from T4 in Madrid to Porto but dont have any idea which Terminal will be landed in Barajas. Just thought that 50 minutes is very short time. What if they can not take our luggage to the next flight to Porto 😊

Hello. We would never accept a connecting flight at Madrid airport of less than 2 hours. If your luggage doesn't make it, it will arrive on a later flight.

Martin, as soon as you disembark on T1, you will have to request an on-demand free shuttle bus that connects transit passengers going from T1 to T4S. All the best.

Hello, all on one airplane ticket (Delta), I've got a LIS - MAD - ATL flight with a 1:25 hour layover in Madrid. Flying LIS - MAD via Air Europa and flying MAD - ATL via Delta Airlines. Going from T2 to T1. Is 1:25 hour enough of a layover ? We are 60 and 64 years old, so can't run as fast as we used to. US Citizens. Also, are we going to get our carry on bags rescanned in Madrid (this is the time consuming part where you have to wait in line and could be fast or slow). Thank You for this video, very very informative and helpful. I've been asking for help on a couple Facebook groups, but after watching this video, I can see most of the Facebook group answers were incorrect. People were telling me to take a Tran from T2 to T1 and it would take 30 minutes to get from T2 to T1........but I can see that is wrong now. Thanks again.😊😊😊 (at the end of our vacation, we will fly from ATL - MAD and stay 3 nights in Madrid, so I will check out your video on how to get from MAD to the city centre (we stay in Centro).

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thanks, I saw that it should be 2 hours from T2 to T1. The good thing I have going for me is that it is the first Air Europa flight of the day at 07:35, so earlier flights are less likely to be delayed. I had seen that we didn't have to go through Immigration Control, but do we still have to line up to get our carry ons scanned ? Thank You.

@@DavidSamui there might be a security control somewhere between T2 to T1, but we can't tell for sure. Passengers flying to the US have to go through an extra layer of controls, they are usually advised to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure time.

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Hello. I changed the flight from LIS - MAD - ATL (1:25 layover in MAD) to be LIS - AMS - ATL (4:00 layover in AMS). Earlier flight (05:00 instead of 07:30), but I won't worry as much anymore. Cost about 30 Euros for 2 people to change my flight. Still stay in Madrid for 3 nights at the end of our trip. Thank you, which now brings me to my final question.........What time should I arrive at the Lisbon Airport for my 05:00 flight to Amsterdam ?

Hola Tony. Thank you for your helpful information. I do have some questions hoping you can help. We are arriving in MAD via T2 (Air France) and will have 3 hours stop over before catching our next destination to Tangier , I think in T1 (Ryan Air). How T1 & T2 is connected? Is it far? Can we walk? Is the 3 hours time enough for us? Also, we need to store some luggage. Any recommendation of the company to store our luggage? Where do you suggest to store our luggage in T1 or T2? Thank you in advance.

Hi Henry, if you watch the video you will find most of your questions answered. There is a luggage store facility at Madrid airport, see the details here: www.consigna.es/ The locker is at T1.

Hi, your video is really helpful. I have a question. May you please help me? I will be taking Iberia airlines from Feurteventura to Lisbon. There is a 45 minutes of transit (on the same airline) at Madrid (MAD) S4 and then at the S4 I will fly from Madrid to Lisbon. So my question is, it says S4, does it mean T4S? Would 45 minutes transit be suffice for me to change the flight at S4?

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal

Hi, yes, there are no S terminals at Madrid airport. S is a letter reserved for gates. You should arrive at T4 and depart from T4 too. We don't like risks and wouldn't accept a T4 to T4 connection of less than 90 minutes.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal

On the video we explain what our conservative estimates for a quiet connection are. We would never buy a 50 minute connection at Madrid airport. It is doable, but if a single step of the complex process goes wrong, you might be in trouble.

Hi Tony, the airport transit visa enables transit through the international area of airports located in the schengen area but does not permit entry into the territory of the schengen states, right?
So what is and what isn't actually considered part of the international transit area?
For instance, is the passport control considered to be part of the international zone area?
