I adore this series of yours. I often snip certain sections of the audio on these videos - and then compare the dry with the processed signals in my DAW. If its a particular piece of gear I am considering purchasing, I will often try to emulate the settings with plugins and see how close I can get. As close as I can get many times, there are only a handful of units that are close enough where I physically dont want the hardware. I do feel that the longer we practice this craft, and our ears become more refined- the more we naturally gravitate to analog. I envision a workflow similar to yours at some point, with or without the console. Thanks for inspiring me

I love this eq, just enabling it adds something. Took me a little while to get the most out of it. Sounds hi fi and works on just about anything. A little goes a long way but I also found boosting the low band a lot then cutting the mid band to balance it works a little like the pultec trick. Vocals definitely, also can sound huge on kick, snare and bass.

I agree about this EQ being nice on vocals. I just finished a mix where I used this on male vocals and I liked it better than the plugins I was using. Its actually really nice on distorted electric guitars too!

Sounds great. Looks like I need 2 of them. I’d use it on guitars and drums. Maybe i’ll use a pair on the master bus to shape the whole track.

Crazy the 551 is recreating the sound I'd expect to hear if I were next to the drum kit. Also love the utility of the XL-305.

The "other side of the room" is literally less than 3 feet away and it works for me

Hi, I got this unit and while boosting highs 8k and 16k even at 3dB gain emits a significant hiss noise. Is that normal? I have the 551 powered by SM pro juicer rack 1. Cables used is a pair of xlr to trs Mogami 3 ft. 2534 cable.

Sounds Great! I use my Rupert NEVE “SHELFORD CHANNEL” since it was released. Gives me that Nice Tone that they’re known for. ( Low & Mids base off different units besides the Highs ). Thx for the Video. George 🎚🎧
