Test drove the 2021 OB Touring XT last Saturday. Absolutely loved it. One of the key selling points for me that you didn’t mention (unless I missed it) was the sound deadening glass. The car was dead silent even on a noisy road. I test drove the Ascent on the same road and it was horrid, like sitting next to an engine on a plane. Also, my wife that will quickly mention if I even slightly exceed the posted limit had no idea we were moving as fast as we were. Ended up buying one a day later.
The new XTs look nice but we don't have them in New Zealand yet. I just in May 2020 bought a 2008 (!! Not 2018 ... 2008) Outback 2.5XT EYESIGHT with 54000 miles for US$6200. No Apple Carplay or bluetooth integration, but it's got 265 HP through a conventional 5 speed auto (with paddles) with SI/S/S# modes, adaptive cruise control / lane departure warning / pre-collision warning / lead car start warning. The best I've had on a trip cruising at 70 mph is 28.3 mpg (US) which is not as good as the current CVT cars. But that'll do pig, that'll do. For a few years at least.
Really like your review, a lot of good info. Drove blue Touring and we are likely to get it. We don’t drive much open road anymore, grey hair, so likely stick with standard 2.5L motor. Nothing exciting, is what I describe as "adequate" acceleration. When Outback is 10 years old, no ~10,000 rpm spinning compressor to go wrong big $$... eeke out ~3 more mpgs with base motor as well. Thanks again for good review of features. We also do like that contrasting Java leather inside. Looks good with a medium-dark blue paint.
I love my non-turbo 2021 Outback limited. I considered the turbo but figured I'd keep it to the simple, reliable boxer 2.5. Such a great car. Best tech (using Apple car play) as well.
As a station wagon fan, I love the Outback, but have to disagree on the Java Brown leather. I much prefer fabric seats for starters, but am a bit baffled that Subaru only offers this single color upholstery on their top model, yet in the next one down you have a choice of three depending on external body-color and Java Brown is not one of them.
Went to test drive a XT Touring today in the same magnetite grey with those beautiful brown nappa leather seats. Lots of room, nice steering wheel, plush comfortable seats, great features/tech and from the perspective of a BMW and Porsche owner, a high-quality interior. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed during the test drive. The CVT transmission just absolutely killed it for me. Zero feedback, no feeling what so ever. Kept pressing the pedal down further and further and further until I started feeling any acceleration. Later found out that the sensation was what others were calling "rubber-banding". For what it's worth, it handles great but the power delivery was a deal breaker. So sad!
The XT is a pretty peppy engine. It won’t rearrange your face or anything like that, but it has some decent grunt. It’s different enough from the base engine that most reviewers say it’s worth the money.
Good reviews, I love the car, bigger screen look awesome but, I don’t function???? Seem like you really need to stop the car just to change some vent functions or hit site..... it well be nice if we can control some of functions by voice like Mercedes, or at least but a dile lower close to the cup hold for easy control like European car.
HEY SUBURU ARE YOU LISTENING??? I would love for you to change the Steering Wheel to be BROWN Standard with these Color Seats, as he suggested here. It would make this car rock IMO. No Brake Assist in a $42,000 Car?
I do not care for auto start-stop, however, will likely get in habit of turning it off at control center. I read maybe there is a half-secret way to override that permanently with software setting. Will see. And our 2015 Outback has gas struts for engine hood, cannot really believe they returned to cheap prop rod. Cheap cheap cheap.
I really like everything about this model but I can't see the appeal of the brown leather interior. I like black interiors on my car and I wish it was an option with the XT touring. It might be a deal breaker for me
While watching this, noticed that on the large screen there is no button to cancel the horrid auto stop/start system. Is it that the XT engine does not cut off when stopped?
Could they have changed that mid-2021? I swear I saw another review on a 21 Outback and it clearly showed the home screen button to the right of the auto button. @@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville
Give me the option of NO MOON ROOF no matter what Outback model (I’ve NEVER used mine in the 8 years I’ve owned a Subaru) and “””GET RID OF THAT STUPID ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE””””. Was going to buy the Forester because it had a MANUAL parking brake but now they took away.
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville that’s what I thought, I’m looking at a XT Touring model locally and it doesn’t include it, but the regular touring model does, so I’m hoping they can add that accessory after I purchase it
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville Literally no difference in the Touring XT? Bummed they aren’t available anymore, zero percent financing would have been nice. But ordered my 2022…waiting impatiently.
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville the large screen is very slow to response. Sometimes when you turn on the car and turn down the volume because it’s too loud, it can take up to 10-15 seconds to turn down after turning the volume knob. Some days the car will consistently disconnect from your phone with the message “Apple CarPlay unavailable.” I have used four different phones and three different phone cables to try and resolve the issue. Two were apple branded and the other was off brand. Let’s say you have a bike laying in the back of the car and it barely keeps the gate from closing so you move the obstruction and close the gate. The car will beep three times every five or so seconds while the car is on. It will not stop until you disconnect the battery and touch the leads together to deplete the energy in the car. Next time you test the car I urge you to use a jacket to mock the obstruction and test it out. Just make sure you have a set of wrenches with you. I also experienced this problem when hand washing the car at the rear. My arm waved by the Subaru emblem which caused it to open and the slight pressure from my arm pushing on the tailgate caused it to malfunction.
Test drives are too subjective for my taste, Paul. I could tell you “it’s fast” “it’s slow” “it has egressive handling” etc... but depending on what I’m used to driving that may or may not be your experience when you take it for a spin! I appreciate you checking out the video!
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville So why shouldn't I just read the brochure? The subjective aesthetics are well enough expressed in a few pages of photos and copy while the experience cannot be.
I will have a “virtual test drive” video coming out soon! Sights and sounds. Test drives and commentary are too subjective to be beneficial in my opinion. So I don’t do them
Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s a legislative thing, cuts down on emissions blah blah. They should at least give consumers a way to disable completely

Great point! Congrats 🎉
This is one lovely vehicle 🚗 rugged and yet unassumingly luxurious!

Are they planning to release new update for wireless apple carplay? Perhaps

java brown is deal-breaker for me. And as it flows from seats to the dashboard it feels even tackier.
Everyone is free to their own opinion... I love it lol
All the cars with perforated leather feel the same to me, hard and sterile. To me, the Java leather felt like sitting on a comfortable couch.
I love mine. Looks great on my cinnamon brown Touring xt turbo.
I love you man. But, halk of the review should involve driving the frickin car. Please.

Lovely car. Gave up driving Subarus when thy went to stupid Linertronic transmission
Great review. What is difference between Subaru outback touring and the Subaru outback touring xt?
The XT engine and some accent/badging differences
The XT is a pretty peppy engine. It won’t rearrange your face or anything like that, but it has some decent grunt. It’s different enough from the base engine that most reviewers say it’s worth the money.
Great Job with the review!

LIke the Review just one question Did the Fix the lag on the software for the infotainment system ?
...No, Larry 😕
Love this vehicle!
Thanks for watching, Julie!
Great review!
Test drove outback crosstrack & i thought forester had nicest ride but too slow. Bought a New Murano. Subaru put a Turbo in forester!
Off road capability would be nice to know more about
We have a 2015 Subaru outback and I want to get my mom at 2021 Subaru outback touring XT

Don’t make fun of us old folk with cd’s 😕
Speaking of, wish you would comment more about the sound system on these, is it good?
It’s all in good fun! The sound system is great
is it still severely underpowered, like the 2017? more garbage piled over plastic over more electronic junk

I get that. It is unfortunate that you only have a single interior color option on the Touring XT
Does this have the same battery drain issue with the rear gate like the 2020s?
Great video. Thank you!
👊🏼😁

This was before they added a shortcut on the home screen. You still can, its just buried in the settings

@ofcbob6391 yes. As long as it has the software update it’ll be on there
Wow, thanks I learned something. 😃
Glad I could help, Scott!
Does it still have the lights underneath the car?

Yeah you’re gonna be hard pressed to find a manual brake on anything but base trims going forward
Love the car. Beautiful interior.
I agree wholeheartedly, Jim!
What are new for 2022 Subaru Outback touring xt?
Made a video on that:
ruclips.net/video/ynKUdleCsuU/видео.html
The wireless charging pad is an option correct or is it standard on all XT Touring models?
It is an option. Not standard on any trims but can be equipped on any trim except the base model!

Its a package, will always show on the right of the dealer sticker.
Now they announced a the wilderness version of the outback.
I’ll definitely have to check it out!
I'm hope from my good need such as this butiful this car because it's very nice
Did anything change in 2022?
Mainly just the addition of the Wilderness trim! I have made a few videos on that

Nope. I have a video coming out on the 2022 Touring XT this week! A few new standard features on the base model and the new trim!
Thank you for this vehicle...
nice video!
Review the 2021 Kia Telluride SX!
I would but we don’t have a Kia dealership! Thanks for watching, Shin!
Great Job
Thanks, Miguel!
the updated carplay!!!!
Right?! 🥳
Hot! And I’m not just talking about the car 😉
