- On October 26, 2004, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released, marking the debut of Young Maylay as Carl Johnson, the main protagonist of GTA SA and a member of the Grove Street Families gang. Young Maylay's portrayal of Carl Johnson catapulted his career, thanks in part to DJ Pooh, who was working at Rockstar during that time. However, Young Maylay's relationship with Rockstar eventually ended.
It's worth noting that Young Maylay has ties to the 97 East Coast Crips, adding a layer of authenticity to his portrayal of a gang member in the game. Additionally, he was signed to Ice Cube's Lynch Mob Records, which further contributed to his rise in the music industry.

San Andreas was absolutely revolutionary. Took GTA 2 lengths it had never been prior & still haven't replicated till this day (in my bronze bomber voice).

Dude really put ALOT of effort from himself to help the game become a success, he did an excellent performance, and produced some songs to help promoting the title, and all that was possible only because he wanted and worked the extra mile, that was never part of the contract, he did it because it seems he really enjoyed it, but misserable Rockstar was never gratefull of all that Maylay did for them.
One thing I love about solo, is he will always look out for his cousin and will correct him when need be. That’s real family.
Maylay was not “abandoned” by Rockstar. He did his job, he got paid, and that’s it. Video game actors do not get royalties. If they have a problem with that then they should have a problem with the law and not rockstar

Basically ballas were representing crips in real life as they were outnumbering Families. Families in the 90's had to fade more ballas due to not so many active gang mambers. In the hidden ingame dialogs during mission #7 Sweet shouted "suu whoo". GTA San Andread locations are complicated, but most likely Ganton is not a Compton IRL as Compton should be near airport and Groove Street Family as the most active ingame gang set with very few but hella active gang mambers should be Family Swan Bloods IRL on the east side of Los Santos.

I really don't agree with Young Maylay's views. He wants Rockstar to NEVER layoff any employee to reduce budget cuts which is a BAD IDEA on the corporate world because they'll lose more profit to maintain and keep said employees. Not to mention, he is somewhat stuck up to the old-era beliefs which isn't wrong, but boomerish. He doesn't know any intricacies when it comes to business perspective, and I know he's not well-versed to this area of expertise, but he should know better.
So about the name "CRIP", it's actually an acronym. "Common Revolution In Progress" It originally started as a Black activism organization, but eventually set focus on the drug production and distribution we know today.
That's a myth. always been a gang never was a black activist organization. whoever tells you that is trying to clear up an image or lie.
I don't really think they ignored cj infact there's at of stuff they added in their games after San Andreas, for example in gta 4 there's an ad in the street that has him wearing a suit and sitting and also you can find cj running animation getting used by gangsters npcs and in the French version of rdr1 when you kill the Bigfoot or whatever it was you get an achievement in French but when you translate it you find it saying "No need to seek it anymore, CJ"
Without Maylay there is no way to really involve cj in anything so he has to remain as Easter eggs

Bloods actually exist entirely due to the inner fighting between Crip sets. The Bloods originally started out as a Crip set called "Piru Street Boys".
That wasn't a crip set it was just a gang that started in Compton. the Piru street boys weren't under blood or crip they were Piru.
Rockstar could easily hire CJ and many of the voice actors to continue their story lines in radio format or side characters. There's so many avenues Rockstar could explore and would make just as much or more money.
Rockstar wouldn’t those voice actors just tarnished their relationship with rockstar by being greedy in the first place and now Rockstar wouldn’t hire them even as janitor for their offices

Man I remember back in 2004 when I first bought that game GTA San Andreas along with my first PS2 and boy was I addicted to that game like I use to stay up all night just to play it especially since playing GTA San Andreas for me was like stepping back through time into LA in the 90’s especially since I not only grew up in that era but also in the ghettos of South Central with my boy Anthony and his brothers Johnny and Lorenzo, and also experienced all the hood drama including the famous Rodney King riots that occurred when I was just eight years old at the time, plus sometimes I don’t even try to beat the levels I just stroll around all of Los Santos just getting into trouble LOL 😂. Thus here’s a thing till this day in 2024 my PS2 is still in good shape along with my GTA game from the 20 years I’ve been playing it especially since I always maintained it 😆

Rockstar did the same thing with Liotta when he said that because that Vice City was so successful, he should ask for money on the next one. Being 32 soon, I was 12 when I first got into GTA San Andreas, loved it, one of my favorites, still great to this day and looking forward to the VR version. But I despise that Definitive Edition, and the original PC version has a lot of issues to work at 60fps and it's just all outdated... idk, i kinda moved on after a long time but I still think it's the best GTA, I just like GTA V even less and I'm not gonna get attached to VI or there will be a consequence (no VII anytime soon)
But if there was anything I could change, I wish I played World of Warcraft instead of San Andreas... I really do, no one told me about it, I lived in poverty but maybe if I was aware, I could've had the fund to afford playing it as I definitely had the time but spent it on...what I think has less value to me long term. And yeah, Blizzard/WoW ain't perfect to this day still by any means but I do see more value of entertainment in it from younger and grown days lol, 2004-present both games came out same year.
