Just curious..what is your perceived biggest obstacle to a smaller wardrobe? And what is the greatest benefit? Thank for for watching today’s video and for subscribing! ❤️
Living in the south where it gets ridiculously hot and humid during the summer, warm weather clothes can usually only be worn once before they're gross and need to be washed. Having fewer summer clothes means I'd have to buy new things every season due to wear. Flip side is having more clothes than I'd necessarily like, but they last longer since I don't have to wash things as often. Argh!
@@millyseaber-shinn6109 Yes I would also like to know sizes - it helps me to figure out what might work for my body type. It's so hard to tell from the pictures on the Etsy store itself.
One of my biggest obstacles is accepting when I've made a mistake by purchasing something that just doesn't work out (doesn't fit well or wears quickly, not my style, etc.) I have a tendency to hold onto these items longer than I should as I feel so guilty about it! I think I need to give myself a little more grace...! Love all your videos. X
The way I think of it is this: you’re probably feeling guilty because you “wasted” money on it and don’t wear it. It’s a waste if you keep it too. It doesn’t serve you so it’s wasted by keeping it in your life. Hope that’s helps xxx I still struggle too!
For me, I have clothes to work out in, clothes for hiking, rainy weather, work clothes, lounge clothes. I've tried the 10 item wardrobe, and while it's a nice idea it does not fit my lifestyle. But boy, sure wish it did. Thanks for the video!
Your 10 item wardrobe is the reason I subscribed to your channel and since subscribing I have learned so much more about slow living. As a minimalist, the typical “closet clean out” videos on RUclips never appealed to me because of the mountains of clothes that were still around at the end of the video. I like to keep my wardrobe pretty small but I still struggle with getting rid of the last 5%, as I’ve heard it being called. Your 10 item wardrobe videos continue to be my favorite and I am inspired to make it the next goal in my minimalism journey!
Love! My biggest obstacle is wanting all the things, and the greatest benefit I have found is that it’s so freeing having your closet and drawers not stuffed full. About to do my summer 10 item wardrobe! So fun that this popped up right before.
Loved everything Madisun. Having a capsule wardrobe means I only wear what I absolutely love and don’t spend forever trying to decide what to wear every day 💕
Ive just recently found your channel (and subscribed), and ten item wardrobe. Im decluttering my wardrobe, and folding my clothes instead of hanging them - 55 spare hangers later and still going. Your videos are making me think about my clothes, your 10 items are completely different in shape colour etc, I now realise I don’t need 4 tops of the same colour - just because I like that colour, nor do I need to have 6 pairs of black trousers. I want to look in my wardrobe and feel happy instead of overwhelmed by choice. Thank you for your inspiration x
For me the benefits are less....less laundry, less money spent, less time wasted shopping, less frustration when it doesn't look the way I thought it would. The obstacle is I adore color and so its hard to mixy matchy with less clothes when you love color (at least for me it is)
Loving those dresses! My biggest obstacle with keeping my wardrobe small, is seasons..... We have four very distinct seasons, and wonky temperature changes in spring and fall....
I had the same weather but I have 4 capsule wardrobes but I matched to transitional seasone. I recommend Daria Andronescu youtube channel. I have also her classes: body harmony and color harmony. I also watch Fernanda - appriximately right. The most useful was: 1. List of activitis during a seasone and also holidays 2. From Fernanda: that I can use work clothes also out of work 3. Capsule for accessories. Good luck!
My biggest obstacle in having a smaller wardrobe is not having enough variety. However, the greatest benefit is it forces me to have perspective between what is actually necessary and what is a fantasy/want. This allows me to look at other aspects of my life(schedule, home, relationships) and determine what helps me become the best version of myself to me and to others.
I wear the same 3 outfits every day lol. I own about 50 pieces of clothing which is pretty limited IMO. I live in Canada so it’s pretty cool that I can do that. Definitely going to refine my closet a bit further
I don't buy into the "if it doesn't fit get rid of it" rule either. I put on some weight and continued to buy clothes in my skinny size; as it was a commitment to myself to get back to my former shape. And I did it - and I'm so happy that I didn't accept my larger size and chose to do something about it. I also believe if you really love something, even if you hardly ever wear it; don't throw it away. One day you may get another piece that looks amazing with it. Don't follow rules over your gut.
Appreciate the realistic approach to a pared back or minimalist wardrobe. To help me with office clothes i love but don't wear or clothes which are too tight due to decreased activity over the last few years. I bought a couple of long length clothing covers. I bundle hangers by category and put in these to the side of my closet. No longer overwhelmed with visual clutter or choice when getting ready but also not a hard declutter needed either. I love reassessing with seasonal changes what goes in and what stays in the storage bags! Hope this helps someone!
The greatest benefit to a smaller wardrobe, I think, is not having to think about it too much - makes it so much easier! Curious to know if you keep items that you don’t necessarily want for the present season to use for other seasons, etc - I know Jennifer does this even though she might not choose it for her current 10 items as she selects a few new pieces then. As a minimalist, I know this gets tricky as clothes start to accumulate, but I love the idea of getting a few new items and letting some of the others go (I guess my question is decluttering items that no longer work for you vs. items that may work in favor of something new). Love your two new linen items!
Thank you Katie! Yeah it's a little different when you do it from a minimalists perspective. I notice lots of capsule wardrobe are just wardrobes where they buy brand new stuff every season (except maybe 3-4 pieces) and then store the rest for the other parts of the year in the garage and repeat. Idk what point I'm trying make haha but I love the ten item wardrobe! Thank you for this comment Katie!
My biggest obstacle is the different types of clothing: work, weekends, and loungewear (also athletic wear). I'm not sure how to incorporate 10 items that fulfill all those categies.
You’re inspiring me so much! I have a fairly minimal wardrobe (about 40 pieces for the whole year) and my house is pretty minimal, but your content has been helping me narrow down what I actually use for my real everyday life and there’s so much excess, from my clothes to my son’s toys to our kitchen stuff, that I have been keeping around for too long.
When I was a child I did not realize I was in a low income family. But we oy got clothes once a year and it was at back to school season. We got 5 pants, 5 shirts, and 1 pair of shoes. That was it. No dresses, no shorts/skirts, no sandals, nothing extra. I loved it and thought I had a ton of clothes lol.
You look young and beautiful! That body worked hard to bring human beings into the world! You are a Goddess! Do not grieve the items that don't fit the same as they did. Your body is different, but more importantly, you are different! I just found your channel, and I'm 53, so I'm much older than you, but you are a joy to watch!! As a side note, ironing sucks, invest in a handheld clothing steamer, I bought mine from Amazon and I will never iron again!!
I just loved that!! That green color is absolutly amazing on you! And its just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt, but i think its ok for you to keep those shirts you love that dont quite fit right now. (Maybe store them somewhere that you cant see them so your not sad everytime you open your closet). Our bodies work so hard to grow and then to nurse babies that sometimes they need more time to figure out where they are at. Yes we love our bodies in the stage they are in and we dont guilt ourselves for not fitting in xyz but bodies can change so much with nursing and even when you stop nursing. With one of my babies (i think my 2nd or 3rd) I lost 10lbs after my milk had stopped because my body realized it didnt need to feed an extra human anymore lol its like my body wanted a little more cushion on me to assure it could feed me and my little one, and once I was done nursing it was like all this food storage lol isnt needed and I lost like 10lbs without doing anything different. So I would wait and let your body have time to figure life out after nursing before you say goodbye to them. Cuz yes it is a possibility that you may not be able to fit them again but it may just be a stage that your body is going thru in order to feel healthy enough to feed 2 humans at once lol. Your fantastic and inspiring and im so happy your making content and sharing with us the real parts of the process, like not wanting to say good bye to something yet lol its a real thing and im glad you shared it.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 My biggest obstacle is facing the clothing choices I have made that didn’t work out how I wanted them to, both in the past and more recently. I am a minimalist but tend to be hard on myself for an impulse buy or not hanging on to an item for ‘long enough’ even though it isn’t right for me. Some of the biggest pros of a small/ curated wardrobe is that I have less washing for my family of 5 ( a real pain point!), my clothes have space in their cupboard and i can breathe easily when choosing something to wear, and my clothes don’t ‘bully’ me for not being a certain size or shape or making a wrong choice
Madisun, I would aboslutely LOVE a video of your favorite brands for clothing. All of your outfits are so wholesome and look so comfy! Please Let us in on your secret. Thanks!
Hi Madisun! Love your videos and new place. In my humble opinion, it is completely reasonable to keep a few favorite pieces in various sizes. This is part of the ebb and flow of life. In my own life, this has helped me with being more sustainable and not wasting money. Do whatever works best for you. :) I hope you have a wonderful week. May God bless you.
I lose and gain weight myself. Mine is due to menopause. So I totally get it. I love comfy clothes and love all of your capsule wardrobe. Love watching your videos they inspire me.
I also do the 10 item wardrope and got rid of alot. It has changed my life- I literally wear the same few items, I wash every 2nd day so it's not a problem and it's changed my shopping and spending habits. I will only buy an item if I need it or if I'm prepared to let something else go.
Love this video, Im using it as inspiration to resize my wardrobe- 2 big bags later and its working. I live in the UK, so Im just tackling the summer clothing at the moment. The more I do, the more ruthless I get. Could you let me know the size and colour of the green linen top please, as would love that as part of my downsized summer wardrobe?. Thanks from the UK x
I love your videos so much. You're one of my favorites. You have such a cute wardrobe. Way too young for me now sadly. I'm enjoying your new series too. Love from a Californian transplanted to Michigan (I miss home!).
Love the dresses and the wholesome outfit is the best. My biggest obstacle is not keeping clothes for my future or past self. I am working on living in the present and enjoying the clothes I have.
I would so love to do this! I feel like I need 2 different sets of clothing. I live in Canada where we get winter half of the year and I have 2 young boys. Messes & dirt seem to always follow my boys hehe! I feel like I need a loungewear/at home capsule and then another capsule for when I leave the house. Trying to scale my closet back. I keep all seasons in my closet. Shoes/boots/coats summer & winter .. bathing suits ect. I keep it really organized and tidy but I do wish I could cut it in half. I am slowly recovering from an online shopping addiction. I suffered post partum depression and that’s how I coped was by shopping. I felt like it gave me that little bit of happiness when I couldn’t leave the house. O quit social media a few years ago because I was always buying things influencers recommended and I ended up wasting so much money. Most of the time what I ordered didn’t suit my body/lifestyle. You know one thing I have realized.. nobody cares about what your wearing. Nobody is looking at what brand names or lack of brand names your wearing!I have been watching you videos for the last year or so and they have helped me tremendously! Thank you for all you are doing for the RUclips community! God bless ❤️
I love all of the linen! did they give you a promo or anything to use? I'd ike to try the brand but hesistant :) if not, thank you! Do you know where they are based?
Thanks Amanda! I know they’re pricey, unfortunately I don’t have a promo code, I’ll have to ask if they might send me one. I love good quality linen though!
I always run into the fact that where we live it can be 30 one day and 75 the next 😅 I mean literally can snow in the morning but you need shorts by the afternoon haha or vise versa
Hey Madi, really love your channel, I follow it and recommend it all the time to others! What's your size in the Man In the Studio linen dress? I've been eyeing that one for over a year now but I just cannot decide my size. As far as I can tell, we are sort of the same size so I thought I'd ask:)
I didn't read all 100+ comments so you may have already addressed this question. I have never heard of the ten piece wardrobe but have heard of the project 333. That's 33 articles of clothing not including undergarments, exercise clothes and sleepwear for 3 months. Wouldn't 10 articles of clothing also include the 2 pairs of shorts, the heavy sweater in the closet and the clothes that you're wearing? I'm not meaning to sound critical, I am just curious. Thanks
So inspiring! I do think it’s misleading to label this a 10 item wardrobe, when you have an entire closet FULL of additional items (not just undergarments, but actual tops + bottoms). Still love & appreciate your authenticity & minimalist/capsule wardrobes look different for everyone! So no judgement here. Great content! New to your channel but I’m loving all your videos so far👌🙌💛🌻
Not really if you understand the 10-item wardrobe created by Jennifer L. Scott. I suggest you watch some of Jennifer’s videos breaking down the 10-item wardrobe. It’s very inspiring and makes the idea far less intimidating
I usually just donate, occasionally I will sell on eBay, but it has to be >$50 to be worth the time for photos, shipping, etc. I am trying to be more intentional about how I spend my free time.
I definitely fluctuate in weight, for example I was heavier in college and then lighter once I graduated. Then heavier again during covid and I’m trending lighter for this year. I know that stress really effects my weight so if I really really love a piece I will hold onto it for a couple years even if it’s too tight. I’ll reassess each year and if it’s been 2 years and it still doesn’t fit the way I want them I’ll part with it and allow myself to find a replacement. But I don’t keep anything that I can get on my body and zip up because that to me will just never be a realistic clothing item for me
No clothes spark joy for me but I do love a few things so I keep them plus yes I’m a person that goes up and down in size due to medications plus I only love orange clothing and they never make enough clothing in that colour so I can never thro them I keep forever even for that one day 🧡🧡🧡
Hi dear love you clip so I have a question I’m a modest Muslim and I put hijab 🧕 scarf on my head every day and it’s hard to match or put an outfit together so that’s why I have so much clothes and when I go out it’s not working at all to dress as I want please gave me a tip thanks so much ❤️
Some of the most stylish & beautiful outfits I saw when I attended school at a community college in San Francisco, CA were the Muslim women. They would color coordinate their hijabs with their outfits. I saw one particular woman who would do a beautiful monochromatic look often & it was absolutely stunning. I would do your best to narrow down to 5 colors that you absolutely love. Two base colors (ex. Maybe tan, or charcoal grey, or an olive green. ) Pick two base colors, them maybe two brighter colors that you feel comfortable wearing & then one color that really pops on the days you feel like being bold. If you have 5 full monochromatic outfits ( including the hijab) you can expand from there. Maybe find different textured fabrics within those same 5 color ranges to be able to layer. See if those 5 colors can work well together when you mix & match them. Have fun there are so many beautiful colors of hijabs to choose from from what I've seen. ✨💞Best of luck & have fun experimenting to find what suits you best!💞✨
Hi I am new here. You said that you are nursing. I am nursing and giving solids. How do you manage to get along with just so few tops? My little one spits on me, grabs my shirt after eating strawberries, sneezes on me etc. I need to change at least once during the day 🤣
Hey Janine, sorry just seeing this! Sounds a lot like my life 😂 I find that I care a lot less about saving things or keeping them for special occasions, I just wear them! Go for it!

Biggest obstacle is not having as high of quality clothes as I would like.
Greatest benefit is I know what I am wearing each day.
Biggest obstacle is the Swedish climate, we get all kinds of weather. So I need more extras than I would prefer. Love your videos!
Living in the south where it gets ridiculously hot and humid during the summer, warm weather clothes can usually only be worn once before they're gross and need to be washed. Having fewer summer clothes means I'd have to buy new things every season due to wear. Nobody is looking at what brand names or lack of brand names your wearing!I have been watching you videos for the last year or so and they have helped me tremendously! Thank you for all you are doing for the RUclips community! God bless ❤️
Thanks for supporting my work Candice! Whatever works for you, you know best!
If you absolutely love them and they're good quality then keep them for a season or two ❤
Lol the permission I needed ❤️
For different seasons, do you sell & start over each season? Or do you put away for storage and bring out the other season in storage? :)
YIKES! ok props to you just for being you haha
Hey Madi, really love your channel, I follow it and recommend it all the time to others! What's your size in the Man In the Studio linen dress? I've been eyeing that one for over a year now but I just cannot decide my size. As far as I can tell, we are sort of the same size so I thought I'd ask:)
Love your wardrobe! Please do a new kids capsule wardrobe!
Thanks
Thanks for watching. If you are interested in learning more about the nitty gritty of the 10 item wardrobe, check out some of my past videos on it.
I love your clothing. I’m a linen person also. Smile I was wondering, what you use for detergent to keep your clothes looking so nice?
We use this one. amzn.to/3vbMAGF
What about pajamas, under garment and active clothing. What’s your recommendations for that
Ton of recommendations in my latest clothing video ❤️
Keep them in the maybe pile for a little longer🥰
Love your new dresses!! Especially the beige striped one ❤️
ME TOO! Thanks Patricia!
@@MadisunGray what size is your dress from Man in the studio?
@@danielap.8239 I sent them my measurements but I believe I'm a Medium
Lovely clothes selection.
Thank you
So inspiring!
Hi!! Love this video! ❤️ what color is the linen man in the studio top? I love the color. Is it light turquoise or sage green?
I think Mint!
@@MadisunGray thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Very random question but can you tell me what size you wear in the Indigo Luna boxy crop?
Small ❤️
Thank you! ❤
you give credit to Jennifer, I wouldn't worry!! :) she would probably be happy that you are talking about it as well.
Do you sell your decluttered items on Poshmark? Or donate?! Just curious what you choose to do when they’re higher quality items.
But I don’t keep anything that I can get on my body and zip up because that to me will just never be a realistic clothing item for me
No clothes spark joy for me but I do love a few things so I keep them plus yes I’m a person that goes up and down in size due to medications plus I only love orange clothing and they never make enough clothing in that colour so I can never thro them I keep forever even for that one day 🧡🧡🧡
What is the brand of the vintage jeans? They are so cute!
I too would like to know the brand name of the jeans! So cute.
@@faithjolene244 me too still waiting! LOL! She looks so cute with them i need them too.
Those two shirts you showed that don’t fit you, it’s possible you could have them altered to fit maybe?
What size is your linen smock dress? I want one! Trying to figure out what size I am.
Can you wear those maybe shirts unbuttoned over vest/cami? Sorry shouldn't encourage the keeping of maybes 😁
Do you know the name of the Piper and Scoot dress, Im looking on their website, but cant find this model and love the detail of it x
Thanks for watching Sara! ❤️ It’s called ‘The Ellie Dress’
do you need to iron any of those pieces?
I don’t have an iron. 🤷🏼♀️. Thanks for watching ❤️
Do you have a link for the "rhythm" button dress?
Hi
I am new here.
Go for it!
I understand about don’t fit right because weight gain
Whats a repeat piece??
Hiii!! I didn’t see a link for the jeans (with the belt)?
I think they were a thrift find 😂
I’d heard of 33, but ten, wow.
Save those things, honey. Losing a few pounds is not hard and you’d really regret getting rid of them. 🦋
I have tried to find your straw backpack but can’t. Do you know where I could get one?
I got this one on Etsy I think!
Thank you!’ I’ll look there ♥️
This is the best content I’ve found. Thank you!! I have watched the minimal mom and Natalie Bennett for years and love their content. But your videos speak to my soul. Thankbyou!!
@@paigebosley2840 that means so much to me. Thank you Paige!

Keep the shirts and see what happens within the year.
Wear leggings with your favs :)
Don't get rid of your faves. Lose the weight 🙂
Take the 2 faves to a local tailor & get them taken in (easy peasy)
Your channel was suggested on my feed and honestly it's exactly the thing I've been looking for that few months 🤍
So glad you are here Laura ❤️
