Great videos Sly. You should visit these areas in Bangkok; Khao San Rd, Nana, Asok/Sukhumvit, Thong Lo. All very different vibes.
Add to that, Silom (Patpong 🚨, Thaniya 🇯🇵, Silom 4 🏳️🌈), Soi Cowboy 🤠, Chinatown, along the riverside, Jodd Fairs or another night market.
I'm trying to decide on heading back to Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok later this year. Both great places to visit, wish I could do both. Seeing videos like this is making me lean more towards Bangkok everytime.

The steps outside Siam Paragon mall have a roof over them for xmas with various lights, different every year.

The way you were about to walk to is the direction to the Samyan Mitrtown mall, but it's dark because the places in between for both sides of the road is the Chulalongkorn univerity and the Triam udom school.
If you walk past MBK, pass the National Stadium. You will find famous restaurants on both sides of the road that are popular with local people.
