When I was trying to make my own doll line myself, the starting cost for research and development for my own body based on my own design was going to be like $55,000. It's very expensive. It's why a lot of American Girl knock offs will private label from a manufacturer in China or Indonesia, rather than building from scratch. I've thought about going that route instead, but when you do that, you limit your control over certain aspects. Most of the manufacturers I looked at were willing to do custom face ups and custom clothes, but you had to choose from the skin tones, body sculpts and face sculpts they all ready had at their disposal. I basically wanted to go the same route you suggested. Have a basic doll that can be easily customized (have a doll with a simple face up with eyes and wigs that can be changed) and sell clothes, accessories, diorama sets, craft sets, and sewing patterns so you could make the kind of character you want, instead of buying a pre-existing character. I haven't completely given up, but I'm just trying to decide the best course of action.
I would love a video of you ranking dollhouses or just going through the history of some doll houses since you study architecture. Even one about Ariel playsets/ castles I would watch. Glad this semester is treating you better and hope the coffee is good. ☕️☕️☕️

I'd love to see more content about Barbie houses and furniture, I'm obsessed with the magical mansion and the Sweet Roses furniture collection and unfortunately there isn't any good content dedicated to these playsets. I would love videos talking about this subject, I think it would be like fresh air for the viewers and even for you. If possible we could even vote in a poll, which house/playset/furniture we would like to see first, then you could make some videos as a test, to see if it works for you without having to commit to making a series of timeline videos from 1959
The description of your ideal doll line is basically American Girl's business model. Or at least it used to be. Buy a doll from their wide array of molds. Or you can buy a customized character. And then you buy their associated clothing and accessories that you want. And yup. its super expensive.
New sub here. You’re so funny. It’s clear you have two loves…dolls and design. You absolutely need to combine the two for new content. There’s no end to the content you could make! I’m just imagining you featuring different doll designs….houses, cars, salons etc….and showing us with any of your design tools how you would improve or change the designs. You could do it with an iPad, if it came to that. You have a dark sense of humour. Bring that to it. Show us your ideas of goth, emo, Lolita, spice girls style…whatever! Maybe you don’t have the budget to design an entire doll line, but you certainly have the tools to reimagine current designs and change things up. There’s more to you than just talking about dolls. Way more creativity, way more humour, way more depth. Most doll channels are folks with upbeat, sunny personalities. I get tired of that, and it’s not a great reflection of who I am. I’m more like you…sardonic, sarcastic, a little angry… I’m very Gen X. I’d like to see you bring that to your channel. Anyway that’s my two cents. I like your honesty, I like your comedy, and I like your drive. Best of luck! Oh, and one other idea…most doll channels focus on accumulation. So much accumulation. I’d LOVE to watch you CURATE your collection. Go to your moms, your grandmas, etc and curate a few at a time. That would be amazing content…your reasoning for keeping or dumping dolls, the process of selling, how successful you are with selling…endless content that’s different from what’s out there now.
Yeah the upbeat constant PR fishing is so exhausting haha. I need to find a balance, school takes up so much of my time I don’t get to be more involved with my channel.

I do like Mattel put a little more effort into Ken in the Looks line. I did like they had one with long black hair. And the Extra Fly Ken. They were both good. But yea, most Ken's are just boring & that's ok, cause even though I have them, I don't have as much fun with them like the female dolls.

And the only reason I’m able to think like and remember this is cause I’m part of the vtuber community and omg has it been crazy these almost three months. Like it’s literally that TinTin meme but basically every month. That’s not even taking in the whirlwind emotions I’ve been having over the sudden passing of Akita Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball and character designer for the Dragon Quest games) and preparing for an upcoming convention.
