    1. "Too hot leh where is the rain?"
    2. "So much rain leh where is the sun?"
    Sometime we got bonus : HAZE
    Yup thats it

    Like she said, we got Malay, Chinese and Indian in Malaysia. Its more interesting if you can get each of these malaysian into one place and listen how they actually speak english. Its different! This one with chloe is the chinese-english. Malay-english is the easiest one. The indian is more like a tongue twist. The tone is different. For sure, Dave would go crazy. Lol 😂😂. But its interesting to learn.

    안녕하세요데이브오빠!
    Greetings from Malaysia! First of all, big fan. Super thrilled that you decided to collaborate with Dumpling Soda and talk about Malaysia. Just wanna add some more stuff cause I feel like this video needs more explanation. Although all of what Chloe said is true, her explanations however are only based on her views as to what a Malaysian Chinese would say. Here are just some extra info.
    1. 0:41 - “If you’re from Malaysia, you normally speak 3 languages. Malay, English and Chinese. ” This statement only applies to the Chinese people living in Malaysia. Most Malays and Indians don’t speak Chinese, unless they studied at a Chinese school (or by other means). Since Malaysia consists of 3 major races, which are Malay, Chinese and Indian, all of us normally speak 2 languages, Malay and English. However, just like the Chinese, who speak different dialects like Cantonese, Mandarin and Hokkien, the Indians also speak Malayam, Tamil, Hindi and others. For the Malays, we have the Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and other dialects.
    2. The most famous Malay food, other than rendang, is actually Nasi Lemak. Both are really good dishes. 정말 맛있어!
    3. Usually, in the Malay language, (this only applies in conversations/speaking) when a word that ends with an ‘a’, it is pronounced as ‘e’. The ‘e’ sounds like the A in America or I in Bird. Even though the words are spelled as Nama, Saya, Apa, Gembira, Dia, Ada (notice that all these words end with ‘a’), they are pronounced as Name, Saye, Ape, Gembire, Die, Ade (ends with the e sound). You can actually listen back to Chloe’s pronunciation of Bahasa (4:10), Dia suka (4:22), Dia ada (4:25). Btw, ‘Lawa’ is one of the exceptions, it’s still ‘Lawa’ not ‘Lawe’.
    4. One more important thing, the word ‘babi’ is considered rude in Malaysia. You usually curse with it. The meter of this curse word can go from the S word to the F word. So saying ‘Saya babi’ is actually unheard of, hahaha, and it definitely does not mean “I’m fat”.
    5. The use of ‘Lah’, ‘Loh’, ‘Leh’ and ‘Ah’. In Malaysian English, or ‘Manglish’, the word ‘Lah’ is the most common and used by all races, a very Malaysian thing to say. ‘Loh’ and ‘Leh’ on the other hand are mostly used by the Chinese. Rarely you’ll hear Malay and Indian people use ‘Loh’ or ‘Leh’ among themselves, unless they’re hanging out with the Chinese. Chloe said “I’m very hungry leh, let’s go out lah.” Translated into Malay-Malay, it would sound something like “Lapar lah, jom keluar.” And Malays don’t usually ask a question with ‘Ah’ at the end of the sentence. And again, using ‘Ah’ is the Chinese way of asking questions.
    P.S.: I’m no expert. These are just some of my thoughts and opinions. Also not very good in English, so... sorry for the imperfect grammar. Just thought of sharing these additional info about Malaysia and how we converse. Hopefully Dave can do more Malaysia related videos in the future.
    :)

    Firstly I'm proud of Chloe appeared as the first Malaysian on Dave's channel..I remembered when Dave posted that he's looking for South East Asians to collab on his channel..I even sent a DM on his IG but he didn't see the message as I know he gets tons of DMs everyday..but Chloe maybe was chosen due to her social media influence which is an added bonus plus she's pretty..half of the video,yes,I agree with what Chloe have said but how I wish she can elaborate more about the food like Nasi Lemak and Nasi Goreng Kampung(instead of the bland Nasi Goreng that Koreans always confused when they come to Malaysia to eat) but maybe it wasn't mention or got edited due to the video main theme which is language..for the Malaysian-English that Chloe used in this video,sadly I have to disagree since it's more commonly used among Chinese-Malaysians..Singlish(Singaporean-English) is a different case where almost everyone from every races use it as a dialect..but for our Manglish(Malaysian-English),we have other expressions based on each races like Malay,Chinese and Indian etc..maybe,Chloe should have mentioned that the one she uses is Manglish-Chinese(?)..anyway,thank you Chloe for mentioning the diversity of our country Malaysia..
    *was hoping for Durian(or maybe types of Durians) to appear on this episode which I think it should but sadly it didn't appear ㅠㅠ Hopefully there's another collab with a fellow Malaysian on Dave's channel..these are just my opinions on the content of the video~ #NoHate

    Rendang is not from Malaysia or Indonesia. It doesn't belong to any country. It belongs to Minangkabauan's people. It's because Minang's people live in Sumatra island. But also, a long time ago, Minang's people go to Semenanjung Melayu and bringing their own food. That's why you can find rendang in Malaysia and Indonesia.

    lah와 la, leh 등은 보통 '어기조사'(중국어학 쪽에서 쓰는 용어) 혹은 sentence-final particles 라고 불리는 거에요. 중국계 언어(보통화 광둥어 등등)들, 그리고 싱가포르 영어에서도 발견되요. 통사적 의미적인 역할은 없고 화용적인 기능을 수행한다고 알려져있어요. 특히 말레이, 싱가포르 영어에서 la는 보통 제안을 하거나 상태가 바뀌었다는 뉘앙스를 전달하기 위해 사용되어요. 학자에 따라서는 한국어의 어말어미(먹었"어", 먹었"다", 먹었"대", 먹었"구나")도 동일한 것으로 취급하지만 두가지는 다른점이 많습니다.

    • @hanisnadia6656
      @hanisnadia6656 6 лет назад +106

      造淸 formally written malay and indonesian i would say around 60-70% similar but for conversational malay and indonesian are like 30-40% similar.but both of us would understand each other language quite well.

    • @SerGio-mw9pc
      @SerGio-mw9pc 6 лет назад +109

      The huge differences would be on the words we adopted.. As bahasa Melayu/Malaysia would tend to adopt English and Arabic based words, while bahasa Indonesia would tend to adopt Dutch and Javanese based words.. So, vocabulary is the main challenge.. As for grammar, we share I think 99.9% similarities, which could be said as exactly the same.. I don't think there is any grammatical differences between bahasa Indonesia and bahasa Melayu.. That is why many language experts regarded bahasa Indonesia and bahasa Melayu as the same language, pretty much like Hindi and Urdu who share HUGE grammatical similarities..

    • @Nayasapatricia

      While we share similar historic and poetic vocabulary from Arabic, the Indian languages, Persian and a bit of nativised Portuguese (you can compare these to Chinese in Korean), our recent borrowed lexicon is quite the determiner. Malay borrowed much English compared to Dutch-influenced Indonesian, not unlike how you have NK 뽈스까 (Połska) but SK 폴랜드 (Poland).
      As a first-language Malay speaker, it's not so hard to understand Standard Indonesian, both by sight and verbally. Both standard forms were (and still is) based off the same variety of Malay, after all.

    Thank for this Malaysian special, Dave but please never say "I am a pig" in Malay if you ever come to Malaysia. We use 'pig' as insults and it sounds so much worst in Malay. Like Chloe said, we have 3 major races and using different languages in A SENTENCE and everyone understands it. We also have words that have the same spelling in Korean with totally different meaning (our SARANG means NEST, NABI means PROPHET, HARU means CHAOTIC/MESS).
    Thank you again for making Malaysian special. Please make more~

  • @아이나씨
    @아이나씨 5 лет назад +9

    Actually, if I'm not mistaken, it's kinda slightly different of Manglish between the races tho. How Chloe talk are Chinese Manglish. As for Malay Manglish or Indian Manglish, we don't use "lehh" or "ahh" much. It's just a slight different of the way each races talk 😊 but we all do use the word "lah" 😂😂😂
    P/S : Dave, if you ever have a chance to come to Malaysia, don't say "babi" (돼지) publicly,, it's kinda unappropiate and rude word to say to/with people 😂😂

Though I'm not malaysian, Bruneians, (people from Brunei which is close to Malaysia) also speak Manglish but our Malay is a little different from Malaysia's and Indonesia's.
