  • First off, I messed up the video by not shutting off the auto focus and forgetting to turn the camera back on after installing the hands.
I wasn't originally going to film this one, but I love the way this movement looks and I haven't shown it yet. There were many issues originally, I ended up using several spare movements to build this one up. didn't clean up super nice, but is got a classic worn out look. have a temp crown waiting for a signed crown to get here, that's why it sticks out so far. the strap is an old pigskin from another elgin I have, not sure the age, but it looks great on it.

Nice. I have an old 1958 Hamilton Sawyer that this watch reminds me of. Well done.

Nice, I don't think I have anything else similar to this, and I have quite a few oldies.

It was given to my grandfather as a retirement gift. Never serviced. It looks and works perfect, but I don’t like to have it running. I know it really needs a clean and lube. Just because it runs well doesn’t mean it’s good for it with that 65 year old dried up oil as lubricant.

@@lucabrasi5070 I agree. If it's never been serviced, the chances are high that there is micro debris inside. It can't be good for it, but I've seen people wear old watches without service for years without issue, other than +/- being off.

I’ll get around to having it cleaned and lubed eventually. I’m conscious of not causing it any harm .

Siempre empiezas al revés el desmontaje. Y antes de quitar el volante con su puente hay que descargar el muelle real. El remontuar es siempre lo último

Trust me, it's fine, and who's says which way is backwards or forwards? This way is a seemless disassembly, I don't have to keep flipping it.

Some folks recommend against letting the movement spin down because friction could burn the pivots. I tried it though, and there was still power in the mainspring. Looks like this little movement was moving freely though. I like your technique of pressing on the opposite side of the plate when the stud is glued on by old oil.

@@Mars-zgblbl like I've told others, these are my watches, unless otherwise noted. I've never had an issue with "my" technique. As for pressing the opposing side of the bridge, something inlearned with cars and aircraft, precision dowels need to be removed and installed as straight as possible. Thanks

@@ddaavvee No shade, everyone has their suite of techniques. Wish I’d seen your plate on dowel technique before I bent a pallet fork pivot when the bridge slightly stuck on its dowel. That’s one for the books.

@@Mars-zgblbl oh, that sucks, haha. I have definitely done that before, some of those older pallet cocks are crazy tight.
