Concrete directly contacted with side soil. This is not good practice. Must use side formwork. Kothanar only follow this type of practices to save money. My opinion that's all.

Fly ash bricks and red bricks are also fine, the primary thing is they should be manufactured well. Kindly check for the standards and strength factors. Water absorption is relatively high in these two.
Those joints are weaker points in a stirrup. It is better to rotate those joints. If you have done that differently, during additional load times they may act differently.
