Aside from fact that the dialogue is some of the best I've ever seen on tv, the sound of the birds in the background is so location realistic. Those bird sounds you will only hear in rural australia. Nowhere else. It immediately brought me back hearing that. Love this show man. Might have to binge it for a 4th time now
The gent who played Ray's brother is insanely talented. My son assumed he had some kind of medical ailment in real life; that it wasn't all acting. I had to show him his bio to convince him otherwise. This scene had me fighting back tears, and I don't even have siblings! Truly Academy Award level acting 💙

Jesus, what a series. Honestly this was the first show in a long, long time that literally had me on the edge of my seat every episode. But this one, this one hits like no other.
My dad was a good man. I always loved him, but I had developed some resentment over the years when we worked together. I never had hate but I always felt a bit angry over some of the things he did. When he was dying in the VA hospital, I went to give him a hug after a visit. He strained to get one arm around me and I experienced something profound. I knew that this man loves me with all of his heart. I was also very aware that he was just a man, who was often scared like me. Confused like me. Had faults like me. I saw my dad as a man. We tend to put our parents on a pedestal. And when they fail to meet our expectations we can become resentful and bitter. But my parents were never abusive or cruel. They just made mistakes. What that hug did for me, was obliterate any negative feelings I carried. Even ones I didn't know I held. In that moment, I felt the same love I remembered as a child. When my dad took me to movies. Or father son pancake breakfasts. Or when we would sit on the stoop at night and he would tell me about space and the stars. The purity of that love is cleansing. I miss my dad every day, but that hug was a blessing that I carry always.
I know what you are going through Bob, I love and miss my Dad too, I felt unsafe and all alone when he died but life has to go on unfortunately with or without the people that we love, Stay strong Brother 👊🏻🙏 .
That's nice. My dad was a complete narcissist. And though everybody loved his positive attitude... he never let that narcissism go. Whatever was left of my father after the narcissism ate him alive, I'll never know. But he sure as hell changed form. And not for the better.
After many years of becoming smarter and slowly realizing that my father, while handy in many ways and can fix many things, he is a person that otherwise i would despise with all my heart, you talked about negative feelings you didn't know you had, i don't know if i have any positive ones about my parents, not because of abuse or anything, they just proved again and again that they are children in the bodies of adults, and i cannoy respect them anymore
@@Pilvenuga it comes across respectful, too. Like he's not hamming it up or being too cautious, he's doing exactly what someone in that situation would do and it's clear he did his homework. Everyone can do an impression of someone in that state, most of the time it's offensive and mocking more because the person doing it doesn't understand the person they're pretending to be because they only picked up surface indications of their condition and didn't bother to learn anything more. This feels like at minimum he got to know someone going through a similar (but hopefully more positive) experience and did his best to honor them with his portrayal of their condition.
Rays relationship with his brother added so much depth to this programme for me and it was truly heartbreaking. Honestly, one of the best programmes I have ever seen. And 3 seasons was just right. Pretty much a perfect series. Well done all involved. 10/10

Scenes like this one, an emotional farewell between two brothers who love eachother, are so rare these days…..or maybe they are just rare in American Cinema. Zero CGI, a beaten down cottage in the middle of nowhere, the house they grew up and were abused in. No part of the budget really used for the setting or the ambience, yet a million times more gripping than any 10 minute segment of any Marvel movie aside from the terrorist hideout where Stark and his assistant created Ironman.
The writing of this scene and every scene with his brother was fantastic, you actually start to believe it’s a real conversation between two actual brothers.

Holy cow, that's unexpectedly deep. Writers are really the most important aspect of a show. You don't need handsome actors, just people who take their job seriously. But they need a kickass script to work with.

I’ve been eyeballing Mr. Inbetween for a while now, coming close to starting the series but always pulled back for some reason. I’m starting this series today after seeing this scene!
It’s definitely worth the watch! I like watching many live action shows and movies, across all countries. But this show takes the cake and is one of my top 5 favorites.
I have been watching some of the clips where Ray is out kicking someone's ass, but now I need to see this show. The performance from the actor playing Bruce was masterful, and the script he had to work with was so cleanly crafted and still felt organic. Putting this at the top of the list.
This series is one of my favorites . Found it by accident and thought it was excellent . Ray is not wanting to let his brother go ,but understanding he must . I looked out for my two younger brothers all my life and now I am becoming an old man but the bond is still just as strong .
The best thing about this series is that all the dialogue scenes are just Aussie blokes chatting, no acting or direction needed 🤔 brilliant stuff, most underrated series on TV in recent years 😊
Ray is literally the walking embodiment of attachment issues. Guy spends the entire show trying to convince himself his rage and work is making the world 'fairer'. All he did was piss himself off for his dad. He has the saddest type of laugh a person could ever have.
I came to realize that the show has everything. Has good action scenes, humour, psychological drama, liltle bit of silce of life and on top of that those deeply touching scenes like that one. I wish it was longer, but on the other hand perhaps it is better to leave it at it's current perfect state than to fuck it up.
I like to think that Bruce telegraphed the rejection, but asked him anyway to explain the concept of not knowing how much weight Ray was bearing until he decides to forgive and release it. Bruce wanted Ray to feel that weight lift.
I've only seen season 2 and it feels like I am scrolling YT to find clips. I'm not an Aussie, but this series just hits you across the head. And a lot is thanks to the protagonist. Amazing understated performances.
This series tapped into all of my emotions this particular episode reminding me about the last conversation I had with my father. Terminally ill knowing it was his time. Excellently Paced series.

This scene, and the one where Ray’s dad tells him he wished Ray had known him before he went to war, are the most intense and amazing in the whole show. And that’s saying something, because it is such a fantastic show all round! 🙏
Powerful scene. Grief is hard, and I don't think people realise that the hardest part is acceptance. Somone very close to me hurt me in the hardest time of my life. It has been years and regardless of the intention of their actions, it felt irredeemable, a disservice even, to forgive them. That anger and grudge has had more of an effect on my life than I came to realise, and continued to damage my relationships with others going forward. I watched this show just this year, absolutely phenomenal. This scene has been playing on my mind and last night, I took the strength to forgive, not just to tell them but to truly look back at everything that hurt and forgive. Bruce's words cannot be understated, the weight was put down, not gone, but knowing that however much longer it would take to carry it where it needed to go I could relax, breathe and move forward.
this show really made me care about these characters in a way that i didn’t realize happened until this episode. and it was heavy as fuck. especially the scenes of bruce waking up, seeing brit and coming here as he knows that was final day in this world. heavy fucking shit and well written and performed dialogue that says and shows all it needs to without being heavy handed. ray doesn’t show it much but he truly loves the people closest to him and they’re the reason he does what he does. and he loves bruce so much because they were put through the same shit in their childhood and got each other through it.
Lost my brother in July 2024 to cancer. Yeah, this hits home. He's correct. Matter and energy can only be transformed. You cannot add or subtract either from this universe.
I recently finished the series but before moving on to S3, i went back and watched the first episode and it was such a transformation for Brucey seeing him being more lively and comprehensive to slowly becoming more and more slower and incapable. Im glad Ray was able to make his last few moments well worth it.
I think when you go through abuse you don't just hold hatred for the abuser but perhaps even on a subconscious level you have some hatred for yourself. You hate not fighting back hard enough, or getting out of the situation, even if it was impossible. I think to ease the pain you carry from the trauma you don't need to forgive the abuser, just yourself.
Interesting take on forgiveness. I hope you’re right. I have never suffered abuse. I have two great parents who are still alive and having sex. I can smell it when I go to their house. It’s disgusting. But if I had been the victim of childhood abuse, I would adopt your take on who to forgive. I’m not the forgiving type. I hold grudges over spilled milk from 10 years ago. But I am also kinda selfish, at times, so forgiving myself sounds way easier. Geez, that ended wrong, but it was exactly what I wanted to say.
There's a part during this scene where they reminisce about bath times when they were kids, something that really resonated with me and probably many others. You see it from 2 perspectives, one from being a young kid and one from being a parent. I can remember all the silly bath times with my brother in our family house, and I'm now at the parent stage where my two kids clown around at bath times. Enjoy those times guys, because once they're gone they're gone.
Being someone who’s in a similar situation to yourself, sometimes you have to take a step back and understand that forgiveness isn’t about letting the other person off the hook, it’s to give yourself a better quality of life. Harbouring that resentment for so long only burns you out eventually, and you wish you could be something other than bitter and angry all the time. Like Bruce eluded to, it’s like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. I’m not saying forgiveness is easy, but it’s an important part of letting go, and being able to move on in life, for your own sake.
I’m in a confused spot. Hatred makes you 10x sharper 24/7, but it will end you if you always stay submerged. I’m trying to keep my hatred without letting it take me out. It’s hard to balance. You don’t need to swallow false positivity to give yourself a break so you don’t crack. Wishing you luck.
Great show. Glad I recently discovered it for myself. Yes, the guy playing Bruce is obviously a top notch actor. Other actors need to take note from his performance. To me, he's not playing it "over the top" and makes me feel like he's a person that is adjusted to his his situation and at peace with it.
This show is truly a gem. You can laugh with Ray finding out that he has somehow left "pee pee" movies at Gary's house, apparently, and then you get hit by this episode. It's so short but a bit of everything happens through each season.
I literally commented about this cause it hit me so hard. I've been sitting on a veranda in the bush just talking with my grandparents and the sound of the magpies and kookaburras sounding off is just so unique. To them I think it becomes normal but a guy from oklahoma it was like a symphony. I go back every year and the first time I hear it I'm at peace. For some reason I didn't notice it when I watched this show(seen it three times now) but this clip it hit me like a brick

Never become emotional from sny piece of media before I watched this show. I cried like a baby during this scene.

I recently finished the series but before moving on to S3, i went back and watched the first episode and it was such a transformation for Brucey seeing him being more lively and comprehensive to slowly becoming more and more slower and incapable. Im glad Ray was able to make his last few moments well worth it.
I think when you go through abuse you don't just hold hatred for the abuser but perhaps even on a subconscious level you have some hatred for yourself. You hate not fighting back hard enough, or getting out of the situation, even if it was impossible. I think to ease the pain you carry from the trauma you don't need to forgive the abuser, just yourself.
Interesting take on forgiveness. I hope you’re right. I have never suffered abuse. I have two great parents who are still alive and having sex. I can smell it when I go to their house. It’s disgusting. But if I had been the victim of childhood abuse, I would adopt your take on who to forgive. I’m not the forgiving type. I hold grudges over spilled milk from 10 years ago. But I am also kinda selfish, at times, so forgiving myself sounds way easier.

There's a part during this scene where they reminisce about bath times when they were kids, something that really resonated with me and probably many others. You see it from 2 perspectives, one from being a young kid and one from being a parent. I can remember all the silly bath times with my brother in our family house, and I'm now at the parent stage where my two kids clown around at bath times. Enjoy those times guys, because once they're gone they're gone.

Being someone who’s in a similar situation to yourself, sometimes you have to take a step back and understand that forgiveness isn’t about letting the other person off the hook, it’s to give yourself a better quality of life. Harbouring that resentment for so long only burns you out eventually, and you wish you could be something other than bitter and angry all the time. Like Bruce eluded to, it’s like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. I’m not saying forgiveness is easy, but it’s an important part of letting go, and being able to move on in life, for your own sake.
I’m in a confused spot. Hatred makes you 10x sharper 24/7, but it will end you if you always stay submerged. I’m trying to keep my hatred without letting it take me out. It’s hard to balance. You don’t need to swallow false positivity to give yourself a break so you don’t crack.

Great show. Glad I recently discovered it for myself. Yes, the guy playing Bruce is obviously a top notch actor. Other actors need to take note from his performance. To me, he's not playing it "over the top" and makes me feel like he's a person that is adjusted to his his situation and at peace with it.
This series is better (and cheaper) than seeing a therapist to work through all your issues.

This show is truly a gem. You can laugh with Ray finding out that he has somehow left "pee pee" movies at Gary's house, apparently, and then you get hit by this episode. It's so short but a bit of everything happens through each season.
Bruce was one of the funniest dude on the show without trying to be funny. His dialogue were outstanding

I literally commented about this cause it hit me so hard. I've been sitting on a veranda in the bush just talking with my grandparents and the sound of the magpies and kookaburras sounding off is just so unique. To them I think it becomes normal but a guy from oklahoma it was like a symphony. I go back every year and the first time I hear it I'm at peace. For some reason I didn't notice it when I watched this show(seen it three times now) but this clip it hit me like a brick

I loved this show. I was annoyed when it ended, but I understand why. Always leave them wanting more. So true.
